just watched this having treated myself to a copy for christmas(!).. well worth getting hold of a copy if you can - if you dont already know the bulk of it is a colour wartime record of a Lancaster bombing mission.. shows briefing, bomb loading and a landing on a FIDO runway.. you can also see for yourself what colour Lancaster exhaust covers should be! :D I got my copy from a website mentioned a couple of threads below this one ;) for £11 inc P&P.. DVD also includes some stills taken by the guy who shot the original film plus some other info on his background..

It's absolutely brilliant - the only colour film made of Lancasters during the war ; and it was done 'unofficially'. Clips from it are used in just about every TV programme about Bomber Command, including most recently, 'Bomber Crew'.
Essential purchase !

The color (colour) of war in discovery has some interesting coloured shots of Lancs....worth a look me thinks.

I got the 'Tail-End Charlies' today for £9.99, too. Good to get it at a 'paperback' price.
( Highly recommend the Hastings book, BTW )

Just finished 'Tail-End Charlies' - highly recommended !
I've read just about everything there is to read about Bomber Command and thought this would be just another 'potboiler'. But it's very, very good and what makes it so is a very well-selected mix of veterans' reminiscences and opinions.
I get the impression that many of them probably felt more comfortable talking to co-author John Nichol ( the 'Tornado Down' guy ) than they would to academics or journalists. Or maybe he just knew the right questions to ask.
If you want to know what these men did and how they felt - then & now - READ IT !
