Lysander biplane ! as for the Fiat and Gladiator what a great boxed set that would make, would be a good way to kick off Wings Over Malta :)

Definitely a Gladiator for me - then Sea Glad and even Ski Glad! Would also love to see a Swordfish and Albacore. :) Would be nice to see some more FAA aircraft and this would be a great start point.

Bristol Bulldog very nice and I think many many years ago there was a conection with the Shuttleworth Collection and a Bristol Bulldog , I belive it crashed at an airshow, not too sure on the history of all that now, will have to look it up I think !
as for Hart and Hind we could add a Demon to that and have a set !!

If it were to happen, then put me in for:

Fairey Swordfish (Black RAF Coastal Command please)
Hawker Hind
The Fighter Collection's Hawker Nimrod

Followed by:

Create a large cellar.....
New extension for side on bungalow....
Buy a small uninhabited island.......
Rent it out to CFBC to fund a larger island...... :D :D :D

Gotta be a Swordfish first (for all WWII collections), then a Gladiator.

C'mon Corgi!

Yup have to go with Gladiator, Swordfish, Any one of the Hawkers be ok.
Then as with Snafu we have WW1 planes too numerous, where to start?
Avro 504 good place methinks....
and finish with decent 1/32nd Tiger Moth Museum series with the rigging. Yellow, Camo/yellow/ or silver? MMMM ;)
Oh and a Walrus!

BTW Lysander good idea as well even if wrong thread (and Black)

Anyone know why Corgi have never made one(excluding Wright Flyer of course)???

I would think the manufacturing process would be quite difficult. I doubt the wires could be machine done, so it would possibly need someone to thread each one by hand?

WWI aircraft top three.

SE5A
Albatross
Sopwith Camel

I think we would be back to the problem of colour schemes for the RFC machines, green, green, or......?

How about a biplane from an existing mould, the Hillson Slip Wing Hurricane. I believe the idea was to give the Hurricane extra lift on take off presumably to lift a heavier fuel/bomb load.

Steady there old chap, dont want to frighten Corgi with new things - but this IS most interesting, is it not - Biplanes! I never thought you chaps would go for them - Yipppeeeeee :D :D

Now Corgi have done a Moth, or was it via Ledo, and I've got one, its not brilliant but its lovely in FAF trainer yellow and it proves that it can be done. Now, will Corgi take any notice - answers please

I think the Swordfish would be a good subject to test the market with. It all boils down to the technical execution of such a model. Could the struts be made strong enough to support the upper wing and maintain an 'accurate' look. Rigging isn't an issue in 1/72 scale IMHO. The 'Stringbag' has such a superb history and some good schemes so I am sure it could sell?

I agree with you there Shuttle. The Duxford Swordfish will soon be finished and this a/c always catches the public at larges imagination, perhaps because of its seeming fraility or the involvement in the Bismark sinking.
Forget strings or bracing wires, they never figured when I was building WWI and WWII kits - perhaps a vote might be in order chaps? :)

it cant be that difficult...

Corgi can't even manage a P-38 Lightning, so they ain't going to be able to do anything as intricate as a biplane. Mind you the Mk2 Wright Flyer was a fairly decent job...

Dogtwenty
4th January 2005, 22:12
We are all so sceptical of poor old Corgi now, perhaps we are a bit too nasty to them  But they dont inspire confidence do they? :(

davidwford
4th January 2005, 22:15
The P-38 excuse was particularly lame, so no they don't inspire confidence!

I think the input of Richard the mould maker (for it is he) would settle this one. As the god behind most of the Corgi planes he will have the answer. It's a pity that he appears to have been abducted by Aliens (or Dragon)..........!

I like the idea of the Walrus as a subject. A very important plane IMHO.

I think Richard has been given a dead leg and a chinese burn for daring to come on the forum - either that of the MD of Corgi has had him deaded :(

I don't think Corgi can afford to lose the main man. Him and Albert are their greatest assets!

Agent, if Mrs Agent reads that post then I presume you will quickly need some emergency medical treatment?

I think in truth the old Swordfish has the best chance of being made ,there was also a seaplane version too, also thinking about the price , if a Spitfire size fighter has a RRP of about £24.99 and Corgi were to say that a biplane of about the same size ,eg Gladiator , were to cost say £34.99 cos of the work and time to make it, would the cost put any of you off , even if they kept the production runs low to help stop them going in the dump bins ?

Have just aquired a couple of biplanes via Evilbay that are manufactured by Lledo... Whilst I know that they are not 1/72ndand as well detailed, but rather start a new thread I wthought I best plonk this reply in here....

Anyone else have any biplanes and do you think they would be alright and sell if Altaya/Corgi or Dragon produced them as I would love a couple more myself....

i've got a Squadron of Camels and a Jasta of Tripes. Cheap, cheerful, tacky and very colourful. Stuck on AA stands with a blob of blue tack they are spot on for wargaming with. :)
