View Full Version : What about a DH Hornet?

Well, I'm completely new to this having just bought the Benson 1/32 Mossie. I've spent a fair amount of time looking into what has been produced so far and it has been very entertaining looking at the various comments and what others find interesting.
Though my day job involves me dealing with the real thing (vintage and warbirds) I've taken a new interest in collecting these splendid models and have acquired three already in short order. As I work from home it will be neat to be able to look at them during the day in the office......
Just a thought, maybe one for Corgi (as I'm sure they read this) it would be interesting to see what others views are on you producing a type that is extinct in the real world - like the beautiful DH Hornet for example - in 1/32 of course. Any other types that we can't go to a museum or an airshow to see? Personally I'd also like to see a NF version of the Mossie and despite having to find more 'hangar' room would most certainly buy one if Corgi produced it. Though not strictly 'on topic' it would also be great to see another flyable Mosquito since the passing of BAe's machine some years ago.......

Welcome warbirdguru!
I think Corgi are unlikely to do us a Hornet in 1/72, let alone 1/32! As I see it they are trying to do types that will appeal to the US market and as broad a spectum in the UK as possible, unfortunatly Hornets are a bit of a minority interest, having said that I wouldn't say no.
Thumbs up for a flyable Mossi but isn't one of the big problems de-lamination of the wood on the survivors? Not sure I'd be happy to fly in something that relies on 60 year old wood glue! (No slight meant to the DH boys - they weren’t expected to last much beyond the war) Perhaps it's time for new-builds in the style of Flug werk's FW-190s and Someone else’s Me-262s?

They could build an exact flyable replica of the Mozzie.... in metal!

Interesting comments! A friend of mine is actually building Mosquito fuselages in New Zealand (the real McCoy) and he has been working on this for the last 14 years - the first unit is going to Canada. :p
Of course I should have realised that the U.S. market rules when it comes to models and the Hornet (of the DH variety) may not be of interest. To some extent I'm surprised they didn't do a PR version in USAAF markings in 1/32 - would have gone for that too!

Is that your work Mints? That's one awesome model!
The Hornet would make a really nice model, and as illustrated the Sea Hornet would make a wonderful subject too, but again would it sell en mass?
The best bet would be in 1/72 rather than 1/32, and I would certainly buy one as I'm a big fan of twin engined a/c!
BTW welcome to the forum Warbirdguru, I hope you like it here. ;)

Sadly your right, and it's great shame. I know there's market forces to contend with, but isn't it about time they stopped "playing it safe", and give something like the DH Hornet a go? They may be suprised at the response! :)

Think they will go for a Tiffie/110/MkIX before we see the likes of a Hornet..!! Shame though..... Mind you if the man that says yes likes it.. you never know..... :D

No apologies for shouting - that is one incredible labour of love! What scale is this? I do like it here btw, good friendly forum. Now got a 1/32 Corgi Mustang on order so the bugs (should that be Hornet?) bitten me! never had the patience to build the kits but the diecast are so much more detailed than I could ever imagine. Apologies for asking as I'm a newbie to this, but what other companies do 1/32nd?
Thanks a bunch!

No, sorry, there's more chance of an F-18 Hornet than a DH Hornet, sorry!
