Bob,

This has to be a wind-up? I thought the 'Blackbird' was black to help dissipate heat?

"In 1976, the RAF had borrowed a pair of SR-71s from the USAF, for clandestine work around the Middle East. Repainted in hi and mid altitude PRU schemes of the late 40s, the two aircraft were flown from RAF Akrotiri. Not much is known of the missions, and enthusiasts and historians alike await the opening of the books to the public in May,
2006 "

This was owing to the fact that in 1976 the Avro Yorks they had been using were time expired.

Think that is ACE... there should be more of these schmes about.. Its like painting Pepsi on the side of a Concorde... :D or even Pan Am Comets..

It's all in jest, Shuttle. You see quite a bit of "hypothetical aircraft" (read: fantasy & made-up stuff) on Aircraft Resource Center. If you scroll down the various days of entries you'll have a larf or two.

P/J, no4AutomaticWeaponskit, and Agent have put their fingers on it: plane good fun! :D

Bl**dy reliable...... Camera was cra* though...

(Who said that the only replacment DC3 was another DC3..!!)

In fact Canberras have been performing this function for at leaat 100 years...!! ( and are set to do it for 100 years more,,)

Talking of costs... good letter in the Times today.. stole a copy on the train..

"The UK has so far pleged for the Tsunami appeal the equivilent of two thirds of a single Eurofighter..

The US the equivilent of one sixth of a B2 bomber...."

Makes yer wonder..

Bet the first RAF pilot to crash one will feel somewhat guilty...!!

Yep, interesting scheme. I thought I read about the RAF using U2's at some stage but check this out (http://www.avhub.net/MI_u2meteorpr19incirlik.htm) for an interesting article!

Didn't Armour do a F-117 in RAF colours?
