picked this up before Christmas but only just had a proper look at it. As the title suggests it covers the history of the BBMF Lancaster PA474, more or less from 'birth' up to when the book was written which was the late 70's. The author was one of the crew that positioned the a/c back to Waddo from Henlow, so includes lots of personal insight. There are lots of interesting pictures, and again its very readable..Its facinating to read how lucky we are to have a 'flyer' - the airframe was originally intended to be converted to a pilotless drone, which involved a major overhaul.. luckily the programme was dropped  After that the a/c had a career at Cranfield as a test-bed, not always the safest of occupations however survived unscathed. It was then allocated to the RAF Museum and parked outside at Henlow... luckily at some point Waddington had an enthusiatic OC 44 Sqn who managed to persuade the powers to be that the a/c would be better off at Waddo.. well I'll let you read the rest! The book is written by S/L Reach and is available via the Lincs Lanc Assoc or the BBMF visitors centre..

I have that book Neil, an interesting little read.

Little did those Vulcan's realize that that 'little Lancaster' was going to outlast them!
