I have two of the 1/144 Corgi Dambuster Lancs but one of them has 'First Issue' stamped underneath it. What does that mean? Is one of them more of a collector's piece are they much of a muchness?
Please advise o' Die-Cast oracles.

Much of a muchness, I think. According to Tricatus, the first four 1/144th Lancs had these '1st issue' stamps. All non limited, tend to be pretty cheap on the 'Bay (With 1 or 2 chancers out there...)
Getting back to Lancs in general, nice though the forthcoming Grand Slam jobbie looks, is anyone slightly disappointed that we're not getting the 9 Sqn Tallboy Lanc that many were hoping for? Or may we still see it at some point?

I'm a little disappointed with the choice of another Tallboy Lanc but fingers crossed for the Grand Slam in next year's line up - or possibly 2011 if we get a Stirling next year:rolleyes: ;)

I think there is a good chance you will still see the 9 Sqn Tallboy as Corgi like the idea and the scheme but a lot depends on things like how long it takes to amend molds / tool up a Tallboy , costings for things like this in each financial years budget etc . How many projected sales against costs , split runs i.e do 9 Sqn and 617 Sqn scheme as the same time and store one for 6 months , cost of stock carry etc . Its a complicated equation but I am still hopeful we may see it , as far as the Grand Slam one is concerned , it was ready to go with ( with what was thought at the time ) not too many problems in putting the scheme together . :)

The Dambuster Lanc was released twice, once in 1999 and once in 2003. The release was in identical packaging, but the original issue was one of the first Lancs, and carries the 1st issue stamp accordingly. The later release does not. The original one used to e worth a few quid, but sadly not now :(

Not disappointed one bit. I can't wait for Fauquier's Grand Slam Lanc. Another solid addition, IMPO. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm82/upkeep/DAF/2_thumbs_up_-_animated.gif

Yep.. shat on their own market.. they were going for upwards of £60 at one time, but then out popped issue two and now either can be had for the preverbial tenner.... The one to get if you can (for a tenner) is the first issue one that has been inside the Lanc.. it comes with another piece of paper, a certificate and a few photos.. that could make it worth up to £100 which just shows what peeps will pay for extra packing....:( :D

I have the first edition, but the only thing extra I got with that was a smeared roundel on the port side fuselage from a misaligned tampo imprint (or Mr. Wong's fingers!) that I didn't notice at purchase. Anyhow -- it is somewhere in the loft, aging gracefully. ;)

Certainly one they should have done a different letter for the next issue.... .. was suggested.. most probably ignored...:)

To be fair though Mr A, while I agree the reissue certainly did no favours for the original, the emergence of the 1:72 one probably killed it!

Point taken, the 1/72 issue kinda killed off the 1/144 stuff period.. but really for the sake of a serial number and letter... bit of box artwork..:(
Out of those 144th ones, the white tail is cute.. surprised they aint gone for that in '72nd rather than the third Grand Slam .. yawn..

Got to agree I too was pretty disappointed with the Dams reissue. For the 60th anniversary of the raid, but they couldn't even be bothered to remove the RAf 80th Anniversary from the box. Pretty lazy, and the days of that Corgi management certainly aren't missed. As for the Lanc, yep the white tail is a nice model, certainly wouldn't rule out seeing it (I certainly wouldn't say no) but by the same token, we've never had a day bomber, so the new Grand Slammer has a lot less yawn factor than the dozen black/cammo night bombers we've had before... ;)

Mine is in my bin ( attic ) under a pile of IXO, Model Power, Atlas, Italeri, and assorted other models. :o

All my 1/144 Lancs are on display (I have four) on the same shelf as two Corgi showcase Lancs and two 1/72 with the recent Me262 nightfighter. The different scales mixed together gives a neat suggestion of a squadron at different altitudes. Gert those 1/144s out, boys. They're great.

To be fair the 1:144th tooling of the Lanc isn't a bad little model at all, it's just not quite the same as the 1:72 stuff. I guess time just caught up with them :(

I think me and EP would have some digging to do, and I'm just to darn lazy right now. I'm happy just to dust my 1:72 ones instead!

Of course, the 1/72 Lancs are lovely too. Unfortunately I only have six of them. :D

Got the 1998 Fist issue and the 2003 issue out side by side for a comparison. The differences appear to be the date on the box, of course, the 'first issue' mark, the older style stand with the ball and socket fixture and slight variations in the camouflage shades.
The only other significant change is that the 1998 release has two light blue circlues printed on the underside to simulate the lights used to judge the low altitude. These were ommitted on the re-issue. I've given the 1998 release the covetted display place in the cabinet and brought 2003 to my mini display on my desk at work.
