I think this has probably been discussed before, but I'd like to revive it. So many have thought that 1/144 is dead as a scale BUT with the recent release of the VC 10 from Corgi, I got to thinking again about the possibility of a Concorde. I think it's an ideal scale for it, I realise one has already been done in 1:200, BUT I'd personally still love to see it in the larger 1:144. Not many liveries you might say, but there's more than what you can do with a TSR2!! Irealise I'm prob in the minority but I'd be interested to see if anyone else out there agrees with me??

Get a good cast and hide the join lines you might get away with it.... There's all those museums that would stock yer product..

Red Leader
28th June 2009, 14:42
I agree with that. Surely there's a great market for a couple of unlimited liveries that places like Duxford could sell all year round!!

I think that is a first class suggestion. I'd love a 1:144 Concorde in my collection. If Cornby played their cards right, they could sell these through museums from here to kingdom come.

My big decision would be: What version of BA livery would I like? Same goes for AF.

You would do them all...:D Chances are however it would be a 'dog'.. very few have got Concorde 'right'..

I'm not a civvy collector, but I'd make room for this if it was made at a reasonable price. This is arguably the most beautiful aeroplane ever built, and would look great in 1/144 scale. :)

It is a release that Corgi could really go to town on, apart from an unlimited version a certified limited edition with a full colour history type booklet with a more elegant sculptured & polished stand would make a nice memento of one of the great engineering feats of the 20th century. :)

Interesting responses! Looks to be a good marketing move for the Hound! In that not just ya civie collectors would buy it! It has much wider appeal than that. It is truely a classic 20th Century iconic image up there with the Spitfire!! The only reason I can possibly think of as to why its not been done to date is the lack of liveries BUT as I said before if a. It's unlimited and b. they can do a TSR2 then why not?

Responses are unsurprising, its part of the trophy cabinet.. Spit/Hurri/Lanc/RedArrow... all of which you could revisit every year... and to that point they have released the little 1/400th ish version and that 'thing' with the plastic droop snoot..

Just persuading them that its a moneyspinner and getting BA and Air France's agreement... you could get at least 8 different schemes away... 7 real and BOAC... 16.6" of solid diecast....:)

Red Leader
29th June 2009, 15:52
That sounds absolutely fantastic Agent! You're spot on about the Trophy Cabinet. Concorde really fits the bill for that! Maybe BA or Air France have already been approached in the past and won't play ball??!!

I definately do not collect civvies but even I would be tempted to get one mainly because I worked on it in the 80`s :o

Air France are (unsurprisingly) very difficult when it comes to licencing and most of the larger stuff has been done through Socatec... Manus like Inflight have has quite a rocky time with AF..

As to BA.. gawd alone knows.. but Corgi appear have had more success with them in the past..

Singapore Airlines.... dont know...

PEPSI - ah...... that could go either way.... but a special limited limited edition with a 1/144 Michael Jackson and working afterburner.... ..

What d'you think they'd retail at? I would guess a similar price to a Hound VC10.

As someone who fumblingly made a hash of the Airfix kit many moons ago, I'd leap at this in 1/144th diecast. I'm only surprised that the Hound hasn't done this already.

As Agent like to say, Spit, Hurri, Lanc, Red Arrows Hawk, (+ Concorde) - the crown jewels...

Yes, all of those should sell year after year at airshows and museums as they're all so iconic!
It's never too late but the Concorde's retirement in 2003 would have been a perfect time to have launched a casting!!

Thanks for posting Agent. They look good. I realise Hogan make a quality product but that scale's just a tad too small for me. Do they come with stands?

Agent X20
29th June 2009, 18:28
Yes they do come with stands and no, they are not small ...

Those are a foot long old froot..... 1/200.... very heavy .....if you threw one at the memsahib, she wouldn't get up again..

Yes -- I agree. It could be a cracker, alright, providing Corgi pays attention to the details. I'd have to say, the Concorde runs neck-and-neck with the Comet 1 for the title 'most elegant commercial jetliner', IMPO. I wouldn't mind Corgi doing one of THOSE up too. There are about 6 liveries or so, including the RCAF Transport Command ones that clocked up around 6 million miles in total.

Those are extremely impressive shots, Mr. Agent!!! Worth my time looking into those. I really love that early AF livery. The u/c looks quite nicely done too. Thanx!

Also have a Hogan 1/200 BA Concorde, G-BOAC, and it is one very impressive model and looks great displayed:cool:

I missed out on a Landor one a while ago at sensible money because i foolishly umh'ed and ahh'ed for far to long:( .Won't happen again if i see one:D

Would love to see Corgi do one but i can live without it if they can't be bothered. The Hogan one would be a hard act to follow anyway:cool:

Agreed! And I would like MINE to look like this below:

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm82/upkeep/DAF/goes_fastest.jpg

In fact, I DO have a brand new Corgi one in these colours from 1969. (New-Old-Store-Stock, never opened) but it isn't 1:144.

This 'never-flew' livery would look STUNNING! Corgi could sell a boat load of these if they did this up with some serious attention to detail.

They could do an unlimited or at lleast a very large run size to sell at airshows/Museums as bread and butter sales for a few years!

Have been hoping that Hogan might come up with this one in their excellent 1/200 Concorde series. Although, as you say, it never flew in this livery i reckon there are thousands that believe it did just because of that legendary Airfix kit box picture.

Just looked so right in that livery as do many other aircraft.

One day i would love to have a custom done and match my favourite civie plane (Tristar) with my fave livery (BOAC) .

Would look awesome:cool:

It could have been either that or this below, by Corgi, released in 1969.

Oh yes, this one was in new-old-store-stock shape (noss) at time of my purchase about four years ago. The roughness around the adhesive name plate is due to the camera picking up stuff you normally wouldn't see. When I bought this at a local toy fair, I was the first to open the pristine box and unwrap the tight tissue paper. Previous to me, never touched. Quite a pleasing find at a very pleasing price, I tell you!

For the record, in 1969, Corgi was enamoured with the supersonic Concorde, so they went ahead and made one -- this one in BOAC livery and an early Air France livery like the Hogan above. The Concorde was Corgi's ONLY aircraft that they ever made. The one in the photo is marked 'Corgi' underneath, and 'Made in Gt. Britain'. Anything else Corgi may have stuck their name to was actually produced by Lintoy in Hong Kong, and regrettably, REALLY looked like it. Under a kids hands though, this would have been destroyed in less than an hour, as it is so fragile.

Heavy handed owners? No kidding -- you should have seen some of MY childhood Dinky Toy aircraft. Mangled.
