Trying to remember which manufacturer it was as I saw one at the Airshows - Think it might have been Dragon in a 1/48th Scale.

Very nice it looked too....

I know the one you mean. It's made by Air Command, and they have two AH-64D models, the Rangers and 7th Cav.

Air Command also make some nice 1-72 scale models the usual F-16 F-18, but also the F-117.

Bought the "Air Command" AH64 "Longbow."

Probably, IMHO the best combination of price v looks v detail.

My example had a warped cannon barrel, had to fabricate a new one as I could not be bothered to return it.

Looks great now.

Just picked up both the Italeri Apaches, a set of little plastic parts on a sprue, handles, antenna and other bits need to be placed on the model - they recommend glue, all but one (that is underneath) stay on without glue.

Considering their experience of model kits they put no thought whatsoever into where these components were attached to the sprue, although the colour is a match for the aircraft, when removing the items from their attachment points a much lighter colour is revealed - OK if you are building a plastic kit that you intend to paint - not so good for a diecast model that you don't want to touch-up because you will have to mess about making an accurate colour match.

Rotor and components could also be glued, but the way I display them I don't intend to have drunken swoops around the room with either of them (no names...) so glue is not really needed.

I have them on their wheels but the stand screws to the aircraft and is a very solid affair.

I am very please with them, it would appear from the packaging that they intend to have more diecasts - nothing specified but they are part of "Aviation Glory" a series in 1/72.

Yeah, I picked up the British Army version. Followed your advice and glued all the antenna etc in place before I lost them! As usual.

Agree with everything you say Horrido but would like to add that a few other things let it down.

Firstly, Italeri make a good model of a US Army Longbow Apache. The equipment fit on the UK version is substanially different externally and noticably wrong.
Secondly, Italeri need to ditch the yellow tips to the main and tail rotor blades, the blades don't have this feature.
Thirdly, I don't know about Yank Apaches but as far as I'm aware the UK government hasn't even selected, let alone purchased any form of air to air missiles to fit onto the wingtips. I have never seen this feature even trialled on a UK apache yet - the mounts are there but no boxes!

All minor gripes and perhaps I'm being a bit picky but these things all stand out like a sore thumb when you see the real thing every day!

Still looks good parked up next to a Seaking and a Chinook.

Picked one of these up today. Looks quite good. Anyone got any further sightings of the other models in the range? I think they also produce a F-18?

Well I would hold ya breath, the Government can't even provide the army with enough body armour, let alone defensive systems for the WAH-64D!

A quick picture of the Italeri 'Longbow' with a Dragon Challenger II and the Corgi Chinook to keep it company! The model is not as good as the Corgi helicopters and doesn't seem as refined or delicate. The detail is not as good as the Chinook. However, it is still a good model and it will be interesting to see if Italeri develop the range.

Not wishing to brag ... [much] but am over in the States for a stint and yesterday got the opportunity to look inside a real one of these at the American Helicopter Museum [at West Chester Pa.]
Evil looking from the front I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of their attention. I didn't know basic controls were reproduced in the front seat and that the gunner was usually a qualified pilot too.
If any of you rotary types get out here I can recommend this museum if only for the beautiful Cierva Autogiro in residence and the what I was told is the only Osprey in captivity ... what a piece of aeroplane that is ... and you can get inside!
Don't expect Corgi bargains though. As with most museums they use the shop to raise funds hence Sea Kings and "Wocka Wockas at $69 was abot it.

If spared will be back in the UK at the week end to pick up some threads!

If you get the chance, Raff, you'd enjoy a visit to the Franklin Institute in central Philadelphia. It's the science museum with a nice aviation section.
