There seems to be plenty of the 1/32 spits going for the £30.00 mark, apart from the Brian Lane battle scarred one, which seems to have totally vanished.
The only one i have come across is at CHC and they want the full RRP for it,and i must admit i am tempted,or should i just hang on and wait a bit longer.
Can you give me an idea of how much they have gone for in the past, because its the only model CHC have never reduced in the shop.
Is it such a collectable spit, and a must have in any WW2 collection.

Late last year the Lane Spit was available at reduced price in the D*xf@rd shop ; if I remember rightly it was less than £50......

That'll be Peter on one of his clearouts then! Once or twice a year they try to clear the shelves of older stock, all good for us collectors! ;)

Most handy, picked up the Camo Chinook for £20.00 about 6 months ago...at the time they were as rare as 'hens teeth'!!!! One of those models i decided to 'hang on' for and nearly missed out...or paid a premium!

Hmmm... Brian Lane Spits.... Tripping over the blo*dy things late last year! Ordered the first one, then told it was out of stock and they couldn't get any more, so ordered it elsewhere, during which time I won a second model on eBay, then a sodding third one arrives from my original order, which I thought they had cancelled!!! Oh well, my little nephew was pleased with it at Xmas as his first AA.... :(

MZ were selling them off last summer :( I bought mine from them for £39 - I thought It was still expensive at the time, but I just had to have it(being the nicest Spitfire) :D They are currently listed/valued in a diecast magazines collectors price guide @ £100 - £120

I'm sure its the "Model collectors" magazine price guide  It was £8.50 hence I didn't buy it, but it had most toys/models made from ages ago. The Corgi aviation section was all I looked at and I couldn't believe some of the guide prices  RAAF Mossie £350, Tuck Spitfire £85, Strawberry Bitch B24 £100 ect.ect. I take it these prices are for insurance purposes  If anyone has a copy of this price guide - any chance of a copy of the Aviation listings? ;) It would help convince my broker I'm not taking the p*** out of him :D

I'm holding off purchasing a 109 hoping that they will do a battle scared one of those too. That would be cool to have one of each, hurricane, spit, 109 and even a P51 battle scared. I already have the spit. BTW you can still get this plane at a few N American sellers if you're interested. I have no idea what it would cost to ship to the UK though.

Just got the Unwin Spit, from 19Sqn, and have been comparing it to the Lane. Nice comparisson to the Unwin with finish, good cockpit detail, which can be seen much better with no pilot in it. The colours on the Lane are much lighter but I did notice the navigation lights are bigger on the Unwin. Anyone else notices other changes or whatever?

The duck egg blue follows the panel lines on the nose of 'Grumpy's Spit, the exhausts are brick red, Sandy Lane's are black. :)

Confession time: I swore I'd stick to only 1/144 models, money being a finite entity. Here comes the "Tuesday Morning" sale and I picked up the 1/32 P-51 "Stinger VII" for $29.99 (£16.66).

Okay, now I'm firmly hooked on collecting at least one of each 1/32 model. Picked up the PR Mosquito for $85.50 (£47.50), the Bf 109 flown by Gotz "Double Chevron" for $56.01 (£31.11), the Wright Flyer upgraded History Channel version with rigging for $14.99 (£8.32), and, finally, since no collection is complete without that most "elegant of all military aeroplanes" (Peter Townsend), the Spit. I bought the Brian Lane version for $60.86 (£33.81). A lovely and beautiful model of a lovely and beautiful aeroplane, by the way. The star of my 1/32 collection. ;)

All prices shown include shipping. How does this compare to what you'd expect to pay in the UK?

Same here Bob, I too got roped into 1/32nd with an Old Crow at TM's. :p That led to some Ultimate Soldier 1/32XW planes (Me109E (2 incl. black NF), P-40B, P-47 and FW190D) and I want more, despite no space for them. Addiction or what?!?!

So if you don't mind me asking, where'd you get the deals on the Mossie, Spit and Gustav?

...maybe PM me... ;)

I did not buy the Lane Spit, because of the yellow nose. It said it was added at trainging squadron. I therefore thougt the aircraft was released in its traing command state. ie after Lane had finished with it. If i saw one in the shops for less than £50 i would buy it now.

I got the Bader one and I paid top pounds for it £65. I wish I had got it cheaper, but I still think it is worth £65 pounds. If I got any of the spits for less than £40 i would feel i was getting a hell of a good deal.

We may not see times like this again. As China gets richer its workers will want more pay. This could indeed be a moment in history not to be repeated.
A few years ago I would of expected to pat £200 or more for some thing like the spit.

I know waiting for the price to drop is sensible, but I cant help myself. The new Hurricans are on order and I will pay full price for em. Stupid I know, but I can't help myself when i really want the piece.

I got the Barkhorn and Hartman 1:32 scale both at full price. (£82 and £75). I wanted them real bad and dont regret paying for them. I supose you dont if you dont see them cheaper later.

What I am saying is, if I want them real bad I pay full price (to avoid disapointment as they say). If I just like em I can wait for the price to drop.
I am just glad I was not besotted by the 1:32 mosquitoes when they came out. Trouble is ...I am now.

At one time I said to myself , only buy the same aircraft if it is very different from the other ones you had. Now I wish I had ignored jets and got a lot more ww2 aircraft.

Why dont I buy on E-bay? It must be a child hood thing. I love going into the shop and choosing my model. I can take an hour just to make the purchase. My job is stressful, going into that shop to get my model is half the fun and relaxes me.

That probably makes me a sad sad man, but what the hell.

Oh the pain of adiction !

Regards
David

i have to agree, the lane spit is fantastic, adds a bit of realism compared to the others which all look brand spanking new..................battle worn in my opinion makes the aircraft look as they should, even if they done a few with exhaust smoke and worn where pilot gets in would be great.i paid £60 for my lane and do not regret it as it seems to be a real seller at the moment.ordered hartmann for £65,just love that tulip nose, and its been quite hard to find one,are these all sold?????,or :D just the hound holding some back?.

If you loook carefully at some of the US stuff in the US 'toy' catalogues, (thanks BTY) it always seem to be that if they are offerring a 1/32 Me 109, it is the Hartmann one.... why make life difficult.. smart marketing...?? :D
