As soon as I saw the name Alan Clark I knew it would be quality. I used to be amazed by the pictures of his models that appeared in the old Scale Models magazine.

I don't think so. I have a photo of this aircraft in the excellent Frances K Mason book in the old Aston series, its taken from the port side, just behind the wing and low down so its impossible to be 100% certain but it seems not. There is also one of the authors own colour profiles in the book that has no panel, not 100% again I agree.

So far as I know, it was only 501 who had natural metal aircraft at that stage (May/June 1944) , certainly by late 1944 they had painted aircraft on strength.
