After looking at the following article I have decided that it is utterly futile to attempt a build of a 1/72 Airfix Stirling. What this Italian modeler has done is nothing short of astounding. Unfortunately the article is in Italian but a quick translate in Google will give you some idea of what went into this particular build:

Here's a taste:

and here (http://www.drivefly.it./schede_soci/Vignocchi%20Andrea/schede_modelli/Stirling%20Mk%20I.php) is the full article.

I am completely blown away by the skill of this gentleman. What a gorgeous build :cool :cool :cool

There's not a lot you can say, is there ? It looks absolutely superb - maybe a 1/72 diecast Stirling isn't such a loony idea after all :D

Looks great http://forums.diecast-aviation.eu/images/icons/icon14.gif

I would like Corgi to have a little less weathering on their upcoming Stirling*

*Jedi mind-trick in progress

A fantastic build. The model speaks for itself but look at the detail in the base and the grass/mud mix.  Most modellers would just use a standard grass matt and be done with it.:D

A work of art......:cool

Unfortunately, for us modellers without the same skills:o , some of the modelling web sites can make depressing viewing.....:(

True enough, TDM!

I can't wait for Corgi's Stirling. I'm sure after they see this thread they'll get all that juicy detail in theirs too!!

(So I'm a little optimistic -- it's almost the weekend here.;))

Fantastic model but is a three gun rear turret (http://www.drivefly.it./images/soci/Vignocchi%20Andrea/Stirling%20Mk%20I_big/Stirling%2075.JPG) correct?

and in this shot the missing gun (http://www.drivefly.it./images/soci/Vignocchi%20Andrea/Stirling%20Mk%20I_big/Stirling%2076.JPG) is from the other side????????????

Optical illusion, it is because the guns are not verticly alighned on each side. Look closely and you can see the extra muzzle.

Amazing what someone with a Talent (with a capital T deliberately) I could never dream of can bring out of a 'simple airfix kit'.

Much Kudos.

If I could do that I'd spend a lifetime building models in my every waking moment. Instead, I'll just buy my diecast, and hope the manufacturing errors aren't too obvious........:o

My sentiments exactly. I'm completely humbled by what I see.

Apparently for many, that kit can be a 'royal P-I-A' to build.

This build is covered in great detail in this monts Air Modeller magazine , well worth picking up ,also a 1/48th Halifax build which again is stunning.

Again, I'll be more than happy with a nice early war example from Corgi. :D;) (Hopefully I can mod some interior bits)
