Hello all,
I have a few photos of some Franklin Mint 1/48 scale diecasts. The Ju 52 is an absolute gem, and the C-47 is very nice as well.
Hope you like the pictures! The cats establish the scale.

Welcome to the forum Ara1!
Those are great pics, thank's for posting! I only have a couple of Armour models with the B-25D "Grumpy" taking pride of place in the living room.

Hi guys,
Glad you're enjoying the pics. I've taken some of the Spec Cast F4U, and will be posting them tomorrow bright and early.
The Franklin Mint C-47 and Ju 52 are simply awesome. Very heavy, 5, 10 lbs? Tough to judge. They take up a ton of space so yes I'm jealous of you guys in 1/72!!!
Thanks for the warm welcome, guys.

Dont the Ju 52 need a red tailband and crooked cross...?

shame it hasn't got the corrugated finish...

That yer go.. spoilt it...
Personally I would have gone for D-2600 the Hitler machine and a 1/48 Adolf and black Merc...

Hey Neil, It has a wonderful corrugated finish- it's there.
Hey AgentX20, before the Nazis took over the Ju 52's, Lufthansa had a nice air travel business going. No red bands on the tail initially. makes the diecast one of the rarer ones, with wheel spats, no less.
Planejunky, I'll be picking up a FM B-25 Doolittle sometime this summer, right after the Big Hairy Bird B-26.

Ara1, yep looking at the picture I can just make them out now.. :o would've been a shame to leave them off as its one of the features of the a/c!! yep I like it in these colours, theres one flying in them at the moment.. i'm at work so cant post a picture at the moment.
Neil.

Yes I have been considering the Me-262 as I found a place selling them off rather cheaply on the net at £29, and also had a quick chat with Mr Bull about them, but not taken the plunge yet....
I re-read the Armour Catalogue I have and have now noted the C47's, knew they did big mother B17's.....
Yes, 1/48. And there's more...... ;)

Neil,
Here's a better shot. Oh, and there's a DVD of the two restored Ju 52's flying the Alps... an hour long, it's a Japanese documentary and has no narration, just the most gorgeous sound and film of two very well maintained Junkers.

As against pussy cat...
Naw comment on the red band was more to do with sales, I am surprised that they did not go for the Nazi version as bent crosses usually generates more demand.. :( Stick a 1/48th Schickelgruber in there and success guaranteed..!!!

After seeing these photos I was tempted and bought the "Stanford Tuck" spitfire. Clumsy me broke one of the undercarriage legs off - anyone know where I can get spares?
Ara1

Hey Cowdog,
Greetings- and no, I don't know how to go about replacing an undercarriage. I fear breaking one myself, the C-47 is very heavy.

.. wooo hooo mega bucks postage..??
Works out to £70 incl. delivery, which is the "clearance" price for the Armour Ju-52 that M/Z have.
Admittedly >1/3 of the price was postage, but we can't all live in America can we? Hopefully a $25 declaration should help avoid further costs... ;)

Wasnt being critical old fruit.. just interested... well little bit more than that.. naw.. if you buy the odd airliner from the States the postage has been $12.... and for another ( same sized model weight etc...) ... $45...
ho hum.... and you can guess the rest.... :D
Rusty

Arrived today :D :D :D
Postage and packing cost (according to customs slip) was $56, forget what actual postage cost on box was but I was charged $45. Customs declaration $30 :o
Now taking pride of place on my desk (well, actually taking up a quater of my desk, but anyway....)

Hey,
Yes, I did get your email. Thank you PJ.
As for me being alive, well, reports of my living have been greatly exaggerated... :)
I am busy as all 'ell getting some new works ready for upcoming deadlines. I will be sending you some links to new stuff very soon. Nothing aviation but still (hopefully) interesting.
I trust you have got back into the English lifestyle again, with the timechanges and all.

Yep, definitely spatted. I've got a good strong desk so the weight'll be ok ;) Did you see the pic of the D-AQUI Ju 52 (complete with three-bladed prop) in my other post? Looks interesting, but I definitely can't afford it now! Would love to be able to though....
EDIT - may as well put a pic in here... http://www.microjoy.de/images/Armour/B11D703.jpg

Got to re-find so give me a little while.
I now have four FM Ju52s (!), but not the second LH one (yet)... If I thought I would live to be able to post the pictures I would get them all out and have a photo shoot!
1. First LH
2. Green with Red Swazi tail
3. Colourful Balkan one
4. Eastern Front with wavy grey lines (similar to the upcoming Corgi offereing)

Rusty,
You own four?
As in 1, 2, 3, 4?
Nice! You have ambition.
Is your Lufthansa the same as the one I own (pics in this thread)? It's a very well built model- a real show piece with spatted undecarriage and silver finish.
I have seen a few rare Ju 52s from Franklin Mint over the years, but cannot find any websites that offer pictures of the early non-military releases. I wish I had saved the pics I viewed 2-4 years ago! European only releases, plus a few that don't appear in any catalogs. I was damn lucky to get mine as late as I did.
A complaint- don't you hate grabbing the thing by the wing and realizing you can't rest your hand on the separated flaps---
I love pulling out that bird and setting it down in the room I'm lounging in. Bringing out a large diecast is a special event anyway, but there's something extra special about the 1/48 multi-engined jobbers like the Ju 52, C-47, B-24 and so forth. I can't wait to see what cool scheme they'll release for the He 111, I really love the look of that plane. And I will be getting one of the civilian C-47s sometime, the silver, white and red version.
And who knows, maybe we'll see a 1/48 B-29, although the box would be prohibitive I think, form a shipping and logistics standpoint.
