If you would like to visit a former RAF airfield but your antique loving other half doesn't then Hemswell may be a good compromise. Even better if she likes Sunday markets and all the junk/bargains laid out on wobbly trestle tables. As far as I know you can't get onto the runway area but the hangars and other station buildings are still there. Around a half dozen of the buildings including the guardroom are full of antiques.

A few photo's to give you some idea. This first one is the 170 Squadron memorial at the side of the road outside the main gates.

The station memorial which could do with a bit of weeding.

The imaginatively named Guard Room Antiques. I've seen the inside of a few few guard rooms but this has to be the biggest one I've seen. Apart from the antiques, nothing much to see inside.

A bit of recycling.

It does look and sound like a day at Hemswell would be a perfect day out for the Spitfuls. Thanks for the info DC.;) :)
