Perhaps not very familiar too many younger members of the forum, and not really a 'fit' when it comes to aviation subjects, but many fond memories for me and others of Sir Norman Wisdom (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norman_Wisdom) and his comedy of the '50's and '60's.

Perhaps a little known fact, but something that has touched many of us - Wisdom provided the lyrics for the popular Second World War song "(There'll Be Bluebirds Over) The White Cliffs of Dover".

Blue Skies Norman.

Ive read Sir Norman's bio a few times and never picked up on his contribution to that iconic song.

Basically grew up on Wisdom's films on the TV, watched him live in his one man show over here at a local club in the late 80's (I think) even into his 60's he was very energetic ;)

Bought a box set of his films last year, will have to have a Norman Wisdom night this weekend ;)

R.I.P. Sir Norman

'On the Beat' ( Wisdom's protagonist wants to be a copper like his dad) is one of the funniest films ever made, IMHO. Pure genius. Blue Skies Mr Pitkin.

A very unassuming man. I grew up with his films.

I wonder what the reaction in Albania will be where he has been a most unlikely star.:(

For any one who doesn't know who Norman Wisdom is have a look here. (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/8042674/Sir-Norman-Wisdom-dies-aged-95.html)

R.I.P Sir Norman. When I was a lad your films (especially playing the dual role of the Italian hairdresser :D ) were unmissable for me along with the Jerry Lewis/Dean Martin offerings :)

Yep, quality (and I think parodied in the 'Fast Show') :)

I had the great pleasure of meeting him once, and he was everything I'd hoped, and more. A true gentleman with an unbelieveable passion for life, he truly will be sorely missed.

Norman was a regular through the Airport here on the IOM, so I had the pleasure of seeing him many times, and on the IOM Steam Packet ship, and on the prom on Sunday afternoons eating an icecream, and driving around the Island in his (well deserved) roller.

More sadly, the last time I saw him was about 9 months ago, as part of his nursing home outing in a minibus to the flying club for an afternoon tea.

I gave an after-luch talk once, and he was in the audience. So instead of the customary funny story to warm the audience up, I just said that I wouldn't try to tell anything funny, given the unbeatable expert in the audience. He laughed and took a bow.

Thanks Norman, just one of millions that you gave pleasure to.

That was 'On the Beat'. A classic. The hairdresser was Julio Neopolitani. Lol. Brilliant.
