Mentioned this in another thread, but they have some great shots of the BoB Monument - also great article on Seafire 47 and a massive spread on the P-38.

Minter,
Yep, read it on the (delayed) train this morning. The Hurricane looked in remarkable nick considering what it had been through. Good Stuka ideas for Corgi as well (tank buster please to go with the Dragon 1/72 die-cast T-34/76)!!

quiet day at work today so got through mine! :D yep the Hurricane was in good condition, the engine cover looked like brand new on the underside.. Stuka article was interesting too.. and the contra-prop Spit going to France could make it a candidate for Leg-ends ??!! :D

I'm looking forward to Jonathan Falconer's book 'Filming The Dam Busters' due from Sutton Publishing in April...... :)
It would be rather nice if the '109 isn't just crated up and shipped to the good ol'...even if it could only be on static display at an airshow or two :(

2nd March 2005, 14:35
hadn't heard about that book MB, thanks for the tip-off!!! yep it would be a shame if they dont get a chance to show off the results of the hard work thats gone in to the Me109 before its crated up to go stateside.. from the article it implies that it will be airtested prior to departure.. Hmm better get PJ down there with his nose up against the fence!

The 'Aeroplane' article and photos is extracted from the book, Neil - and if you look for a little box on the last page they're doing a readers' special offer.....

Just when I was thinking that I might let my subbie lapse, along comes the June 'Aeroplane' and it's a really good one......
Interesting supplement listing surviving flying warbirds with combat history ( loads of Spitfires ! ) and an in-depth look at the Hornet ( no, no p/j - not that one ! :p ) complete with colour photos, plus a look at the Canadian Hallibag restoration. Oh ! And some more pics of well-known Mosquitoes on p.9 ( ;) ) and there's even a CHC ad for 'Twilight Tear'......
Better get down to WH Smith's if you're not a subscriber......

Thie latest 'Aeroplane' is actually better than the current FlyPast IMHO....
As well as featuring on the cover, the Kennet Aviation Seafire has the centre-spread and a fascinating article all to itself. I never realised that it had been saved from a scrapyard.....
The article is accompanied by some nice pics from a chap called Damien Burke who's obviously a bit of dab-hand with a Box-Brownie.....;)
Just to make this a must-buy for Shuttle, the RNHF also get the treatment with an article and good Sea Fury pic. Oh, and there's also a piccie of Corgi's Ehrler Bf109G.
Finally, the whole isue is intended as a tribute to the late Paul Coggan, with a touching obituary included.
Recommended !

Martin,
Your right, it is a good edition. I also liked the extensive coverage of the He 177 - the story of the Coastal Command B-24 engaging several 'Fritz X' carrying He 177's in a dogfight is amazing!! I really like these database articles.
One day, someone will make a 1/72 scale diecast He 177.....!

Has anyone bought the Octobers Aeroplane? Ive bought it for the simple reason it has some excellent pictures of RR299 and some great articles also about the Mossie.
I also notice a picture on page 24 taken at Dx on September 12, 1992 of Clive Denney playing with the right engine...... Whoooeerrrr. I must get to talk to Clive sometime about that!!!!
Certainly a cracking bumper month with lots of other articles inside. Not read any of it as yet as I am saving it for the w/e and early next week as working away.... :)
Worth a purchase though!

20th September 2006, 15:07
Minter,
I think they are all reasonably authentic - including the RR Falcon III engines. Being built mainly from wood, fabric and lots of skill I would imagine they are easier to restore than a Lightning? The costs must also be lower? It is just finding the originals that is the problem....
