I have dabbled with the Military & Aviation Book Society, and have purchased my allocation for the year, but have to say there are far better choices and wider selection at more specialist places like Duxford and the Midland Counties place.

You may pay slightly more but it's worth it for a much better choice.

Neil - I really wouldn't bother ! The 'remaindered' and secondhand bookshops, and stalls at places like Duxford, offer much better deals & you're not 'tied' to any purchases at all.

People in Book Clubs always - at some time or other - end up getting books which they don't really want....One other thing, if the books are 'Book Club publications, they're worth zilch if you decide to flog them.

Sorry you wanted an opinion - waste of time.... introductory offer okay, yer know four for the price of not a lot, but then after than the choices became very poor and IMHO I reckon that the books were seconds....

as Mr Mint quite rightly states you end up forgetting.. and then the 'editors choice' for that month ( in reality what they have most of) comes through and it gets messy sending them back etc.. but unless there are 4 or what ever that you really want, you are disciplined to chop the subscription in at the end of year one, and you feel that there are books that you are going to want to buy then I would give it a wide berth..

Also its surprising how much room all these books start taking up..!!

I had a similar thing, and that's pretty much the deal with those guys, wouldn't touch 'em with a barge pole! The other thing that bothered me was the lack of choice. Many guys here would be ok as WWII is their only interest, but I like all forms of aviation, something that they just don't seem to cater for.

Book clubs are a no no, Amazon at the moment are about the cheapest and spend £19 and its free postage and packing.
I compared the military & aviation book club prices with Amazon, I don't know where the up to 40% off comes from, but the clubs average prices are much higher. The only gripe Ihave with Amazon is they do not do imported books of military vehicle series and aviation either.

Have to agree with you Dist regarding book clubs. The intial offer looks very good, but longer term - Ouch.... :( (Bit like the Dvd and cd clubs too)

Welcome aboard :)

Not half. Just bought 'Operation Big Ben' and 'Focus On Europe - Photo-Recon Mosquito' from Amazon at a big discount, free p&p and delivery in 24 hrs. Would need to be a heck of a book club to match that.
