While you can buy many different diecast a/c flown by Johnny Johnson, Bob Tuck, and Douglas Bader, far far too many high-scoring RAF aces have been overlooked

where is the Ginger Lacey/501 Sqn Hurricane?
the Josef Frantisek/303 Sqn Hurricane?
the Bob Braham Beaufighter?
the Branse Burbridge/85 Sqn Mosquito?
the Joe Berry Tempest?

or the Pattle Gladiator/Hurricane for that matter

not to mention this lot....
G/C Frank "Chota" Carey, 25 possibly 28 kills, all in Hurricanes

W/C Don Kingaby, 21 kills, all in Spitfires [1st kill in Spitfire IX, only man to be awarded DFM 3 times]

F/L Geoffrey "Sammy" Allard, 20 kills, all in Hurricanes, all with 85 Sqn

S/L Gerry Edge, 20 kills, all in Hurricanes

W/C Jean-Francois Demozay, 18 kills, all in Spitfires, Highest scoring French ace with RAF

W/C Frederick Hughes, 18 kills, in Beaufighters and Mosquitoes

W/C Anthony Lovell, 16 kills, all in Spitfires [five operational tours on fighters, an RAF record]

W/C Stephen "Dan" Daniel, 16 kills, all in Spitfires [also flew Sabres in Korea]

W/C Johnny Baldwin, 15 kills, all in Typhoons [again, also flew Sabres in Korea]

S/L Alan "Ginger" Owen, 15 kills in Beaufighters and Mosquitoes

W/C Peter Green, 14 kills plus 13 V-1s, all on Mosquitoes

S/L Svein Heglund, 14 Kills in Spitfires and Mosquitoes, highest scoring Norwegian ace AFAIK

S/L Robert "Moose" Fumerton, RCAF, 14 Kills in Beaufighters and Mosquitoes

F/L Claude Weaver III, 12 kills, all on Spitfires, youngest American ace of WWII

and

F/L Charles Dyson, 9 kills, all in Hurricanes, SEVEN of them in one sortie [6 CR42s, one SM79]

few of the aces are household names, even in the households of aviation enthusiasts, sadly, and are unlikely to be commemorated in diecast anytime soon....:(

Good post Von H. The ones I particularly don't understand are Lacey and Frantisek on Hurricanes, Braham on Beaufighters (why HM opted for Bambi in preferance to a Braham one beats me) and last but very not least Johnny Baldwin - the Corgi Typhoon just screams out to have one done in his colours.

indeed it does....hope springs eternal, as they say :)

would have sold better than the Desert Tiffie, or the post-war one, surely

Is the Corgi Hurri mold really that worn out it cant be used,if it is it needs re-doing like the Spitfire so some of these pilots can be remembered in diecast.
Archie McKeller and Tom Neil also come to mind

When the new Hurricane was originally discussed all marks , barring the shorter nosed original 300 were planned , no idea if that continued into the actual production of the mold though . :)

Good thread Von H..

What about this chap - Group Captain Colin Falkland Gray DSO, DFC and Two Bars (9 November 1914 – 1 August 1995) was the top New Zealand fighter ace of WWII. Gray was credited with 27 aerial kills, two shared destroyed, six probable kills, with a further four shared probables over 511 operational sorties.

I'll take one in 1/32 scale please Mr Corgi:D

lots of NZ, Aussie, Canuck and US pilots get overlooked in the history of the RAF- it seems if you want a diecast 54 Squadron BoB Spit, it's Al Deere and nobody else

Geoffrey Fisken is another good NZ ace, you could have his 1/48 scale Buffalo, [he was the top scorer in it] or his Kittyhawk in 1/72 - Wairarapa Wildcat NZ3072 - but neither has been done

Victor Beamish - possibly an 'ace' a couple of times over.

Nothing for Squadron Leader Marmaduke Thomas St. John "Pat" Pattle. Could get two decent Gloster Gladiators for him.

Beamish; well spotted Garethster. 38 and still flying despite being ordered not to. Colin Gray is also an excellent choice.

Thanks for the info. You learn something new each day. How I wish I had known these names twenty or thirty years ago. I would have been knocking on doors.

I would be very happy if Corgi produced a Victor Beamish Hurricane at some stage.

all Colin Gray's kills were in Spitfires [54 Sqn/ 41 Sqn/ 81 Sqn/ 322 Wing] except for half a He59, which was in a 1 Sqn Hurricane IIB :)

his autobiog book looks interesting, shame it's not more readily available....
