When I saw interviews of him, I always thought he looked like a calm, no-nonsence and extremely competant leader even in his advanced years.

From what I have read, he was a rare leader.

RIP.

RIP. He seemed to be a fantastic leader of men and a very modest hero as well.

Blue skies.

Here's a link to an article in the local newspaper:

Feels like a kick in the gut. I never had the privilege of meeting the man in person, but he definitely made an impact on me. Funny how that happens sometimes.

His Wikipedia page has been updated to reflect his death but I am amazed that this news has been so poorly reported. I can't find any reference in the major online newspapers both here and in the USA.

Very sad.

:(

Although it is great to realize that the man survived the war and has lived for decades afterwards it still is sad to learn he has passed away.

On the references, profiles one Dutch and English wikipedia have been updated.

Just to let you know that Major Dick Winters of `Band of Brothers` fame passed away earlier this week after a long illness.:(

As some of you know I worked on the set of this production for a very long time and got to meet these guys and Mr Winters in particular. A very sad time and my thoughts go out to the Winters family at this time.

The Airborne Prayer….

May the defence of the Most High be above us and beneath,
around and within us
in our going out and our coming in. In our rising up and going down
all our days and all our nights.
until the dawn when the son of righteousness
shall arise
with healing in his wings for the peoples of the World
through Jesus Christ our Lord
Amen

From what I've gathered, he passed on the 2nd of January. It appears the lack of publicity was part of the Major's last wishes: http://articles.lancasteronline.com/local/4/335714

Well this is very sad news. I certainly respect his wishes but the media could have at least reported the news at the time, but I suppose they couldn't break away from covering the Kardashian's for 5 minutes. (if I've misspelled Kardashian I couldn't ******** care less)

I'm struck by the date of Major Winters passing as the night before I stayed up to watch 3 episodes of Band of Brother's as it had been quite some time. Odd coincidence.

God bless Major Winters - rest in peace sir.
