(I'm most excited about the Seahawk and I hope they make a Blackhawk version)

Are there any other lines of smaller helicopters out there? Would love to have a nice Blackhawk on my desk, but the Forces of Valor 1:48 is too toy-like (and too big for my taste). Corgi's Tactical Strike is going in the right direction with 1:64 Apaches and Little Birds, but any word on whether they'll make a Blackhawk? Or will I have to stick with painting/detailing my own 1:72 Hasegawa plastic-model-kit Blackhawk?

(My apologies...am obviously a Yank and only really into modern US aviation!)

Welcome chrisjshim,

The undercarriage legs on that Ah-64D look like they're extended in the flying position! Take a look at this picture I took last year of a British Army Air Corps version, and you'll see what I mean.
CDC Armour did some nice 1/100 scale helos, I have a couple of the Apaches, and the AH-1's looked like they were good too. They're getting a bit harder to find now, but take a look on the bay, you may get lucky! ;)

I do like that Tomcat, but with Dragon about to release a 1/72 version it would seem that Corgi have missed the boat once again!

Hello Chris,

Thanks for the info which now poses a question.

How on earth do you manage to buy the F-Toys products?

It is my understanding that these are sold 'blind' complete with confectionary only in the Far East.

We certainly can't obtain them in the UK!
ps. I'd be interested in any of the 1:144 aircraft

PlaneJunky: I heartily agree with your comment about Corgi's Apache Longbow (Tactical Strike 1:64). However, it seems that Corgi is coming out with a second version of the Apache Longbow in May (again, Tactical Strike 1:64) from a different unit, without the shark-mouth on the fuselage, and apparently they're going to correct the grossly exaggerated "legs" on the helicopter. As for Corgi's Apache Longbow from the Aviation Archive (1:144), a lot of websites are apparently re-using the picture of the Tactical-Strike version of the Apache. If you do an Ebay (either .com or .co.uk) search for 1:144 Apache, you'll probably find more suitable pictures of the Corgi 1:144 Apache version. As for CDC's 1:100 line, don't get me started drooling! I have an absolutely gorgeous 1:100 Harrier and I'd like to collect more, but seeing how A) the CDC line is dead and B) I'd like to complement my 1:144 Abrams and Bradley's (Dragon's Can-Do pocket army), I think I'm going to hold out for the rapidly growing 1:144 line.

DataCroft: Regarding F-Toys, the tankzone.co.uk website seems to sell them individually. I've also found some individual pieces on Ebay (both .com and .co.uk) as well, mainly the more popular Apache, Hind and Huey.

*I'm* obviously interested in 1:144 aircraft as well. I'm not selling anything (I have very few pieces) -- I'm just sharing my "research" with fellow collectors. =) Makes me almost want to study abroad in South Korea again -- seems like 1:144 and smaller reigns supreme in the Far-East (we yanks seem to have an obsession with huge, gaudy things).

Corgi Showcase do a S-58/Wessex in pretty much 1/144. Available to date (to my knowledge):

Royal Navy Wessex HU.5
Royal Air Force Wessex HC.2
USMC CH-34

Do you know what scale(s) the other Corgi showcase helicopters are? I've seen pictures of Hueys and Kiowas somerwhere....?

Workshop Helibourne collection also do a Mi-24 Hind (not US I know).

New Ray produce a EH101 in 1/72.
Currently only available as a Canadian SAR bird but looks very smart.

New Ray are due to release a UH, VH, SH and HH-60 in May, also in 1/72 scale.

Have a look at the Mule website in the New Ray section.....

Raddger:
For Corgi's showcase helicopters, I'm pretty sure they're in 1:144 scale. I know the Apache definitely is (on a personal note, they don't seem that great/detailed). Here's the Kiowa (note: it's not the Kiowa Warrior version, unfortunately):

Thanks for the update on the New Ray helicopters -- I'm drooling a bit imagining the 1:72 Blackhawk. =)

Is it just me, or has the diecast modeling world just exploded the past few years with all kinds of new releases, both for World War II buffs and modern aficionados? This is good, this is good....

Yep just a jet ranger in military green! :(

Not wishing to state the obvious but weren't the early models (OH-58A and C's) pretty much that?

Granted, the D-model is signifigantly modified.

Hello all,

Dragon is coming out with a Blackhawk and two Apaches for its Can-Do pocket army line (1:144)!!!

Chris

P.S. Raddger has a good point. =) But one can still hope for an amazing OH-58 Kiowa Warrior. Why is there only one in 1:18 scale (http://store1.yimg.com/I/badcattoys_1833_6081936)? It seems the small-scale modelers have a bigger audience, no?

Good, Corgi's new Pavehawk is adding to a growing line of 1:144 helicopters. I currently own a Corgi Wessex and a Sea King, Huey and Apache from F-Toys line (that JMSDF Seaking is a beauty). I would love to have one of the Ftoys RAF rescue Seaking but they cost far too much if you are lucky enough to find one.

Now does anyone have a picture of the F Toys series 2 collection. I'd like to see the Seahawks again but there don't seem to be any pics on the web anymore.

The numbers of 1:144 Apaches seem high though. F-toys, Dragon and Corgi will all now be providing specimens. I'm glad to see that the Pave Hawk is coming aswell as the Dragon Blackhawks. There could be high mileage out of the Black Hawk mould for Corgi. I believe the USCG Jayhawks are pretty much identical to the Pave Hawks. That and the USCG Herc would look great beside each other.
