Snapper and I have just spent a couple of days in Wisconsin and visited the home of the Experimental Aircraft Association at Oshkosh.
The EAA museum is superb, though at this time of year the flyable warbirds are in hangars over the other side of Wittman Airport and sadly there is no access. The Eagle Hangar is home to a few static warbirds, and the 8th Air Force is well covered in a wall display and model of a typical 8th AF airfield layout, which was great to see.
If anyone here is ever in the vacinity of Oshkosh, I would strongly urge you to visit this place! :)
Here are some of the pictures I took, I hope you enjoy them. I'm sure Snapper will post some of hers shortly. ;)

Thanks for the photos, PJ!
I like the Mosquito pic the best. That angle is nice. So the C-47 is left outdoors? :(

Thanks guys! :)
Snapper took some more of the Mossie, and many other great shots. We'll get'em on here very shortly. Yes the Spitfire IX is real, and in the room behind the aircraft there is a gallery of Spitfire photos taken by John Dibbs which include BM597, EP120 etc which was also very cool! We're definately going to have to get over here for the big Air Venture Convention, that's one serious airshow! :D

Hi guys, here's my perspective on the EAA Museum. I fell in love with this place. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the displays were superb. I liked the way the Corsair was displayed on a carrier, and the various models were very well done.
I loved the ambience of the museum, that you could see the various avionics and the different engines and propellers etc. It was good to see that the engineers as well as pilots were represented throughout the museum.
The experimental aircraft were very interesting to look at too. The gift shop....well you have to experience it to believe it. The range of stuff that was on sale was unbelievable, including AA's!
Anyway here are the pictures - Enjoy

I wasn't sure where to post these ones, but i thought you guys would enjoy them. The model is a 1/72 scale of the USS Enterprise that served in WWII. This is just incredible, the detail is amazing and the model aircraft are perfectly finished. The crew are performing every task that you would expect on a carrier deck, right down the guys reloading the AA batteries! I was a little dissapointed when some kids got into one of the frontal shots, but actually they have given the model a sense of scale, as it must be in the region of 7 feet long!
If you reckon your collection is taking up space, feast your eyes on this one! :D

Nice pictures, looks like you 2 are having fun! I like the mossie - its sitting there looking like its ready to 'go' rather than being a polished exhibit.. if only eh! :(

Nice ones Snapper! You two have really done that Mueseum a service with your fine pictures and text.
Maybe Bob S. can help out with the history of the 1/72 scale Enterprise. I believe it is the same model featured in FineScale Modeler many years ago... how the project leaders got a local modeling group to volunteer building all those great Navy planes. I even recall in-process photos of the carrier hull, and a guy standing on it to display it's strength.

Here is a link to the model: http://www.modelwarships.com/features/museums/big-e/big-e.html
I have that issue of Fine Scale Modeler its January 1992. I think one ship modeling club in Chicago USA built the ship, a figure modeling club did all the figures, an IPMS club built all the aeroplanes, and some famous artist sculpted the water. It seems an honourable project.

Great link vbombers3, thanks. The guys who painted the figures did a great job, must have taken forever to complete as there are quite a few on that model! :)

Your welcome for the link Plane Junky, but I think your photo's of the ship are much better.
