Well I the first time he did it we were told it was because he had a huge year end bill to meet and HQ were going to have a word so that it did not happen again but he was a big Hornby client and got great % discount for size . Then it happened again and I started to keep an eye on the site a bit . I think he is just a shrewd operator , agree to take the amount that gets them cheep cheep , sells some puts a small number that are left on sale on the whole , anything that looks suspiciously like having too many in the run size he is ruthless at dumping . In his last three sales what have been the biggest numbers and usually the biggest percentage off ( though not always ) . So far the first TSR2 , the last three Sea Kings , the last two Lightnings and now the last Whirlwind ( yep he has the first but only 5 ) . ;)

The question, it seems, is not whether there are enough collectors for a given run size, but whether there are too many people in the trade.....
Another question...for new releases....who allocates them to the dealers......Corgi or the wholesalers?

Both I think , some get direct and some from wholesale , though who does the original split at Corgi is anybodies guess , maybe someone has some influence ? Maybe some are getting a grocers dozen ?? Seems to be the voice of the hound currently , 99% of any hostile comments have been towards members of the trade ( and mostly a number less than 2 ;) ) , this has now made us a ' hostile forum ' to Corgi supposedly .  So it seems they are almost one and the same now . ;)

It may well be and of course we cannot say if he is making a profit or not . Maybe he sold a fair few around SRP and did not fancy the rest . As you have said in previous posts he sure seems to have got caught out with some of the early Hornby era releases and is still holding them . So maybe he just wanted out . All I know is he has probably shifted , what 200 ish units in a matter of hours and the first one it was probably nearer 500 , so call it 1000 units in three sales . :)

Even some of the large Corgi Wholesalers have been snapping up models as the cost is the same as they pay at Corgi sometimes a little less.

I have got to say this company does seem to buy these items blind. sees that catalogue order form yep, i have 96 of these 96 of that. gets them in stock, then thinks bugger i have still got 72 left. we need money lets bung them out cheap.
He obviously does not look at what is sold out at corgi, as 4 modern trucks on sale are sold out, customers/trade begging for them, Valiant sold out with most people. weve had loads of trade enquirys for this model after release. "Have you got any spare i can buy?"
If i was in their shoes i would do a bit of research before i would chuck out a model only released 2 weeks ago and sold out.

You would think , especially if ( supposedly ) your supplier had phoned you at least once to explain that . Though he certainly has hit the ones to get rid of in size with incredible accuracy in the last 18 months . Of course the fact that he maybe one of the causes is always a possibility . Anybody been on their site recently. Must admit i look daily ,at this time of year for obvious reasons. Just had a look and the sale section has increased to 6 pages, but no aditional AA stuff. There seems to have been an increase in numbers in buses, trucks and cars put on at sale prices........as yet no planes....yet.

I keep checking from time to time as well. Perhaps he is put off adding more AA because some of the stuff has been available for over a year. That includes the 229 OTU Hunter which is not a bad looking model (No idea on accuracy though). Some dross which will linger a long time like the A4 and A10.
The Hunter although a good price has been under cut by S&S more recently but it seems to be lingering there as well.
