I couldn't give a t**s about the private life of Gibson. He had more courage in his little finger then any of these authors who rake up old history for sensation and their own profit. Why this obsession with tainting the reputation of the nation's heroes exists is beyond me. We all have our faults and no-one is perfect. Gibson flew countless op's and risked his life many, many times. He then paid the ultimate price. Thats the only relevant facts we need to know!!! When it mattered he had the courage required.

I seem to remember the Express every five years or so when they hadn't found Borman would interview Gibsons widow.
Pity Mr Hastings cant come up with something a little more original...

The amazing thing is that Gibson and his like died ( and would probably do so again today ) so that these kind of people have the right to write this kind of stuff . Kinda of I do not agree with what you are saying but will defend your ability to do so .

Just incredible how these 'shock, horror' stories simply repeat what has been available to anyone interested, for donkeys years.
Richard Morris' superb biography, 'Guy Gibson', published by Vilking in 1994, gives the full Gibson story, warts and all. 'Womanizer' yes - but like so many wartime marriages, his own was unhappy and unfulfilling. Unpleasant man, in many ways, yes - but he had to be to achieve what he did.
Could a modern-day journalist form and lead a Squadron to the Dams.... at the age of 24? Most of 'em haven't even left school at that age now  .
Read Morris' book - £5-£10 at airshows should get you a copy......

That's just what I was thinking when I was reading the said article... & there was nothing new in it at all.

I go through the male equivalent of PMS (PMT) every 3 months with the quarterly pressures at the office. I can imagine what a prick I'd be with the pressures of wartime leadership Gibson was under. And with the 'live today for we may die tomorrow' attitude one adopted quite understandably, who can fault him or any other young man of the time for chasing the ladies a little.
An old saying applies here - something to the effect of "never judge a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes".
