AIRFIX are going to release this model early summer, its the first Halifax with new decals they have produced since 1961.
So it looks like the old brushes and paints are going to come out :(
Unless corgi can save the day and produce models of these fab Bombers.

At least someone at airfix has some foresight! Think that MD should be at Corgi.

Any further news on this?
It is on my shopping list, as I will be (pleasantly) surprised if we see it from Corgi.....
If it's early summer, will have time to do the Sunderland, that I bought yonks ago, beforehand.....

Remember getting the original airfix Halifax kit for Christmas when I was a kid in the mid-sixties.
Marvellous.:)

What so we have Spitfire Vbs for the next 45 years?
Looks like the Halibag will have new decals, but it's probably the same kit. I bought the Airfix Catalina a couple of years ago and the moulding dated back to 1969! It was the most awful kit I've built in many years, and reminded me why I don't often buy Airfix kits, I'd rather go for Hasegawa.
The only "foresight" to come out of Airfix in the last few years was the 1/48th Lightnings, and the recent TSR.2, which of course no one can now get 'cos it was a limited edition. They could have made a killing but instead shot themselves in the foot!
Anyone for shares in Humbrol then?

That changed just as I was replying..Corgi... TSR2.. ???....what glue you inhaling...??? Can I have some...??
Hasgawa were in a different price league to Airfix.. yep far far better but would they have been there if not for Airfix..?

Sorry Agent, I'd thought I'd got away with that little error! :o
I think Hasegawa would still be there, as not all their kits are mega expensive. The big question these days is would Airfix be in far better financial shape if they hadn't spent the past 20 years sitting fat dumb and happy, allowing the competition to catch up, and then overtake them?
They have relied upon reboxing old kits for years now, and recently took on some of Italieri's mouldings the AH-64D being a good example. They continue to rely on the nostalgic "old guard" of modeller, and refuse to wake up and smell the coffee. Today's kit builder want's a good well fitting kit, that doesn't need a tube of filler for all the gaps, and they don't want to spend a week cleaning up the parts and removing the flashing before use.
At the end of the day price equals quality I suppose, and I'd rather spend a little more and get good quality. ;)

I've still got an unmade Airfix Hallibag up in the loft somewhere.....:(
Rubbish or not, it was a very handsome aircraft and a superb choice of subject. We can but dream what a Corgi 1/72 would be like :(

Wasnt disagreeing.. as in all things plastic models have progressed and the molds of today are far more detailed, accurate and better fitting to those we had in the early 60's.. Yep.. Airfix like most of the 'British' toymakers have relied on banging out the same old models for yonks.. in ever deteriorating box art... Bring back Roy Cross!!.. some of us have moved on from the plastic side of things (they are not allowed, eyesight, patience, ability) so these really are nothing more than a fond distant memory when money came in pockets..:D ..

Looking at the new Corgi Spit IX, I think I'm going to build the Hasegawa kit instead! The BIG problem for me now is a horrendous allegy to the paint which brings me out in cold like symptoms! :(
I agree Martin, she is a lovely aeroplane, and Revell has just produced a very nice Halifax I/II/ GR.II. It costs a very reasonable £12.99.

I didn't know that...Matchbox had a pretty good stab at the Merlin-engined Halli but those are quite collectable now, I believe....

I have nearly finished the model and will then post the pics,it's been out for about 2 months.
The mouldings are grey in colour instead of the original black and are pretty poor quality. The perspex is awful and i have cracked 2 cockpit canopies trying to get a good fit,so out has come the filler here there and everywhere.
Never again will i attempt another model or call corgi, its done my head in and my eyes.

And Revell have just re-released it. Yup, that lovely £12.99 Halibag is none other than a Matchbox plane re-boxed.
ACES, have you tried replacing the canopies? I bought some Falcon ones from Hannants- haven't treid to fit them, but they look a sight better than the Airfix ones!

And we've been had again! The same goes for the Victor K2, again the old Matchbox kit. Seems they're all at it, the Italieri Merlin is exactly the same kit as the Revell one except it's cheaper! The old Fugimi E2C Hawkeye has been re-released in a Heller box with French Navy markings. All a bit of a con really, pays to talk to an expert on the trade.
You're right rmorley, there does seem to be a number of companies producing bits as replacements for certain models. The canopy on my Seafire FR.47 wasn't right so I got a vacform replacement, no problems now! Being a newer kit in the first place (1996) the rest of the kit went together pretty well.

Some of the models being produced now by Tamiya, Hasegawa, Dragon and the like are minature works of art. The Tamiya 1/32 F-16 is the best model I have ever seen - simply stunning. It seems a pity to build it.....
I have quite enjoyed the Airfix TSR.2 but it reminded me of a 20 year old kit .Maybe because it is a limited run? It has got me interested in making the odd model now and again though and I noticed Trumpeter have produced a 1/72 British Westland Wyvern S4 Fighter. It would go well with the Witty Sea Fury.....!

I noticed that Wyvern kit, I'm very tempted as it had only previously been available in vacform.
The Tamya F-4J is a stunning model too, but ought to be for £89!

The filler was used all around the cockpit canopy mainly on the sides where at 1 point the gap was about 1.5 mm, it was also used along the fuselage top and bottom.

I remember making this model about 25 years ago, it required a lot of filler then.
I also remember the plastic was very thin, when compared with the Airfix Lancaster.:)
