View Full Version : 3 Future classics from the current dump bin

kevjb64
4th April 2005, 00:37
As many have said , despite all the doom and gloom , now may actually be the best opportunity to pick up the next DD Spit at very cheap prices . So what do we think will be three future classics from the current dumpers !

Israeli Suez set

NGNG

U Cawnt Miss it

Merlin-V12
4th April 2005, 09:20
Certainly NGNG without a doubt, cannot see many Libs becoming classics though, look at the Lancs, apart from the one in the BBMF set the rest still go for below their original price point.

I would suggest possibly either the peplow Hurricane or the USN Spit.

Sailor.

  ROLL UP!!! ROLLUP!!!
Shop at Simple Sailor's, USN Spit, can't stand the b****y thing! :)

kevjb64
4th April 2005, 11:20
Yep both nice models and in with a shout ( though that USN Spit has some work to do with over 7000 run ). The Libs are a bit different to the Lancs as they have bombed so heavily ( slight pun ) so if most can get £40 for one they are in the money . But I take your point about ' classic ' status .

Agent X20
4th April 2005, 11:25
Give yer a fiver for it Sailor....

...ooops that's trading......

There is one definite bargain out there which is currently cheap money which will IMHO double by the end of this year..... and no ones spotted it yet.... Just trying to negotiate a carton...

kevjb64
4th April 2005, 11:29
Cannot wait for you to get that carton , then let the rest of us poor saps in on the secret . I am def. thinking of tracking the lofty index in future but I did notice a diff. of opinion over Mcknight hurri .

Agent X20
4th April 2005, 12:09
McKnight is a long term purchase... one for the bottom drawer... If black Nightfighters acn make 70/80 then this should do even better.. Its NOT a six month special....

Slight !? Kev, that was awful.....! :D

The Defiant Man
4th April 2005, 18:36
NGNG I reckon.....Black Spit (holding it's own but will rise).......Racecourse Hurri (generally unloved, though I like it, and a low production run).

Grizzly Adams
4th April 2005, 18:50
Must admit with BBD out there and TT being produced as a Special i can see NGNG being one of those models that takes a couple of years to realise its potential worth, especially on the 'theme' side of collecting. Hence why i picked one up for £12 on the bay the other day :) Bargain!

goonybird
4th April 2005, 20:56
I still think despite the womans' anti Lib front, that the SEAC? RAF lib could be a a goer at 1200 units and dumping now. Blue sea king other one. Hurris and black spits may be longer term due to the simple fact that those that extolled their worth will have already bought one!! (or more?) therefore, not so much demand in the short term. Suez set, nice though it is, will go the way of the recce pink/blue set.

Well you are all trying to talk NGNG into being a classic trouble is you have all got one or more. :D

Last Zero Looks great and there is only 2800 of them. Must pick up a NGNG soon before the price rockets.

Martin Bull
5th April 2005, 16:18
I'll go a little bit off the wall and suggest the Guy Gibson Dambuster Lanc. It's been very cheap on e-bay BIN recently and like Battle of Britain models, people always want Dambuster things.

It's a longer-term bet but when they're no longer around.......

Agent X20
5th April 2005, 16:20
Theres a slight chink in yer armour there Mr Bull, the Dambuster Lanc is unlimited so as per Batmobiles etc they will no doubt churn this one out at every available opportunity, especially when the price rises a little...

(Which is why am surprised we have never had a 1/72 red Hawk..)

Martin Bull
5th April 2005, 16:24
Maybe - they did it with 1/144 but we haven't seen much of it with 1/72 ( eg Grim Reaper - non-limited ). And they missed the 60th, will have to wait until 2013 for the next sales opportunity ! ;)

Agent X20
5th April 2005, 16:26
Soory old sport, though you were talking about the £15 special...

The 1/72 one, the smart money would be to rerelease with different squadron codes.. to Joe Public, its still a Dam Buster

Grim Reaper - can they rerelease it.... thought they had changed the moulds... well hopefully they now would sit side by side.. not behind one another..

Dam Busters is iconic stuff.. Reapers slightly more specialist..

Martin Bull
5th April 2005, 16:37
Ah well, as this is in the '1/72 warbirds' thread heading......

Interesting point about Mossie moulds...better raise it elsewhere.....

Agent X20
5th April 2005, 16:42
Okay splitting hairs. :p :p :p . that one is unlimited too......!!! :D :D If it ever gets to the point that it attracts the wonga, Corgi will re-release at a shot..!!

On the subject of icons....surprised the Dolittle B25 is limited..

Martin Bull
5th April 2005, 16:51
Other potential re-releases any time now must also include Stukas Immelmann & Eastern Front, HE-III Hindenburg and Hurricane Townsend, all of which seem to be doing quite well on the value front, despite being non-limited.....

kevjb64
5th April 2005, 22:40
I think any re-releases of these models would be an excellent idea .... if you totally want to alienate what little client support you have left !

 Think the words 'Collectable' and 'Corgi' have parted company big time at the moment. Anyone who disagrees I suggest find a friend to slap you round the face with a wet kipper!!......... :D

On a more serious note some of todays cheapies will find their place, eventually!! ..........Questioin is knowing which ones ??....... ;)

Not on ebay you don't. Still some around at toy fairs and, although can be got for a reasonable price, definitely not in the bin range.

Plagerism is the sincerest form of flattery..... but in this case, to me, it is bloomin annoying, seems to be all the rage these days, thing is against the Corgi 'snake' it is unlikely to be bettered......

Suez set, nice though it is, will go the way of the recce pink/blue set.

Those two (SEAC Lib and RN Sea King) were actually on my "must have" list (which has very few models). But if this forum and ebay have taught me one thing, it's wait and see. Imagine my surprise/happiness to see both for < half price. If I could afford a carton I'd get one.

Not to complain (obviously) but I can see why others with less patience would get annoyed - I was resigned to eventually paying close to SRP for them (when my bank account recovered from the recent Legends/CC Lib etc. purchases).

My only buy-to-sell-later purchases were the two RN buccs early in my purchasing career. I don't buy-to-sell-later any more cos I've realised that it will restrict my ability to purchase the ones I want. I spent all of last night reordering my boxes. Almost completely run out of space with the SEAC Lib still to come.

Agent X20
8th April 2005, 16:41
Well to me the biggest bargain out there at the moment is the Blue SeaKing, all the colourful RN/RAF ones have done well and at well under a score I think you could look to double yer money by Xmas*... (Tri has em at a run of 2200 - so no doubt there are plenty left.. although the friendly Vulcan am purchasing from tells me they are selling fast..)

* might be 2006 the way things are going..

CFBC

Yep... Will eventually go like the SARS helicopter.... (well maybe not as much), but will double your money at the present purchase cost!!! :D

21st March 2006, 12:53
In reality, are there likely to be any further future classics or will we be stuck forever with the Aces series and one or two other early models?

Honestly can't see any model that has been released recently ever achieving those heights (in terms of money anyway).

Some may eventually creep back to RRP level but...........

Discuss.:)

Obviously the F/M Fw190 has reached classic status pretty quickly after its release ( though appreciate it was never dumped { well unless you take into account the 750 that when in the skip } and a very rare occurrence ) . Today I received the Aleutian Tigers P40 and the Gibbes Nose Art one from the F/M , brought in their sale they stand me about £ 16 each delivered . Out of the P40's these are the two for the future IMPO so they are doubles as already owned them .:)

I'd say The Blitz set will be up there. A very underrated little gem that one! Not that many about already and IMPO easily on a par with BOBMF set.

Agreed, corgi just cannot find a happy medium with their numbers of aircraft, they're just so out of balance. I have 13 Mustangs but 2 zeros what sort of nonsense is that

I love the Corgi Mustang. The 1:72 is good, but the 1:32 is better. The Green old crow is the best looker to me.
