Do you know this site Agent X20? http://www.vulcan558club.com/

There seems to be quite a lot of support to return 558 to the skies. I think money is only part of the issue. My money says the CAA will find a reason to ban it flying. What's a doppleganger?

Doppleganger - a ghostly double of a living person..

i.e you had not been on the site before as someone else, there was quite a heated debate on the 'future' of 558..

... personally I think there are too many people the bird is reliant on for it to fly... if it aint rotted away... lottery funding for a nuclear bomber.. and as you say if the CAA have anything to do with it.. a nuclear bomber in private hands.. shock horror.. ban it to South Africa... think its only hope is that it get recalled by the RAF for active service.... but there are those that are convinced its gonna be there and secretly I think we all hope that she will take to the skies again...

.. be one up on MG Rover who it appears are going to the wall... commiserations.. personally I enjoyed my time with a 2200TC.. a 214, a 415 and a 75.... I shall miss the badge.... sorry to see you go....

Personally I feel a bit sad because I believe the only way for this aircraft to fly again will be for some rich American or the CAF or some other organisation to take it to the US where there government makes it easy for warbirds to fly again. Just like London Bridge. Oops, didn't mean the Yanks could make London Bridge fly, ha ha! No offence intended. :)

Gone! as of 10.00pm tonight. I do feel that would be different if VW had taken over instaed of BMW. All BMW wanted was the Range Rover Technology and the MINI, stuff the rest.

Vulcan flying. mmm.. love to see this happen, but as you say too many different parties involved. I do feel money should have been spent on the many historic planes that still exist, or would still exist.

Still have that awesome sound on CD that puts a chill up the spine every time I hear it.... at 110dBa at 2 meters!!! Makes the windows rattle a bit :D

I suppose the climate in the US is conducive to such a feat, VB3, but I can tell you the FAA (US counterpart to your CAA) would be casting a wary eye on the whole project. It would have more of a chance of being allowed to fly again if it were done in a relatively unpopulated area such as Mojave, California.

But, as a Yank myself, I'd be sad to see it leave the UK. You characters dreamed it up, built it, and wowed countless Russians and airshow spectators with it. I think it deserves to stay home. London Bridge, too.

And no offense taken. :D

CAA seem quite happy about the whole thing so long as everything is done properly, which is why Marshalls  have been contracted to put it back to flying condition... also all work subsequently has to be carried out by licensed staff (as you'd hope anyway) and maintained within an agreed maintenace schedule.. what'll kill it off will be all of these operating costs.. my prediction -fly for 1 season then they'll run out of dosh..

ahem... didnt we do this subject before!!!! :D :D :p ;)
