View Full Version : Inflight 200 787, stand or no stand? If so, which one?

I'm on the cusp of ordering the IF200 787 from Airspotters, but I'm not sure about the stand. Is it crap? Should I display it wheels down? If a stand is desirable, which one should I go for?

Inflight come with the gear fixed down and also stands have to be bought separately.

I know, that's why I asked. It's on it's way anyway, will see how it looks in ground mode.

I'm not sure if you are aware, but when Scuba11 said stands are available separately, it should be noted that only InFlight designed stands will fit, as they are specific to each type of aircraft. It also should be noted that some of their stands have been guilty of an 'odd' fit, which has known to score paint or delicate polished surfaces.

Frankly, I doubt InFlight actually made a stand for their 787. Maybe Mr. Agent will weigh-in with some insight?

My apologies if you already know this.

Inflight models are all gear down - no options

Inflight models (as fgar as I know) have no stand hole (usually a 2.5mm) in the underbelly*. (edit **)

Inflight stands are a separate purchase.

Each stand is universal up to the bracket that the model sits in which is different for each type and therefore the stands are sold for that type only.

The range of stands covers the 727/737/747 DC8 and 9 Tristar and DC10.

I have never seen one for a 747 (they were either snapped up or never released. I have never seen or heard of one for a 787)

I bought a set when they came out thinking they would be good for in-flight shots..

The stand is most probably the sturdiest of all stands as the plane does sit in a cradle that clips onto the trailing edge of the wing.

However the stands are blo*dy awful for photgraphy as there is too much stand to obliterate when it comes to photoshop time and even I am not that creative..

I would not recommend use of the stand as:-

1. There is a lot of paintwork covered by the stand and the training edge is a tight fit. You could end up with a marked model.

2. The method of attachment, a sliding on to the rear wing if not studied at close quarters will inevitable remove any of the little fins on the bottom..

This can be a good thing as the alternative is that they slice themselves into your hand as you push the stand on or take it off..

*Having never seen an Inflight 787, it may well have a stand hole as it might be the Phoenix mould or a hybrid from... It might well even have a stand... as a plane it just dont do anything for me..

A lot of photoshopping.... note the little fin on the underside.. this you will take out if you are not 'paying attention'..:D

** 1-11 has a stand hole but I dont think that was a day one Inflight mould..

To my knowledge, the only diecast 1:200 787 that comes with a stand is the Phoenix one, which has a 4mm hole in the bottom of the fuselage (and the fit varies from 'file-to-fit' to snug and OK). The stand is made of plastic, is flimsy, and mine (in the quick photo below) is NOW in Singapore holding up a fellow DA.C members' Phoenix Singapore Airlines 787. :D;) (No kidding!)

Sorry, Mr. Agent, I adore this aircraft AND the Phoenix version of it, as it is festooned with stencil detail (and aerials that InFlight doesn't provide)! :D;)

It takes all kinds, donnit?

Each to their own.. I just find modern things soul-less..

Neil has left it a bit late as they seem to be sold out... but looking at the onsite photos I betcha both of these come from the same stable.. it would be financial stupidity if not suicide to run two separate molds.. but I may stand corrected...:)

My Phoenix 787 didn't have a stand. Was this only with 2nd issue ?

Soul-less only while in current service. give it a couple of decades.

For a lot of modern airliners I'd agree they're a bit soulless, only the colours that are attractive, but I'd disagree with the 787, has a certain something about it. Definately more than a touch of Comet to that nose... :cool

Well, I had a bit of buyers remorse and cancelled the order this morning. A good move as it turned out, received an email later on saying the model was broken anyway!

I still might go for one at some point as I do think it fits in my test, evaluation and training theme, and it looked like a nice lump to me :)

I believe some of the early ones didn't have a stand hole, while a fair number of the 'fantasy liveries' (Air Canada, Qantas, Alitalia, Singapore Air, ANA) did. Mine is the 2nd release, and it did. So would the white one (N787FT).

Which one do you have Mr. Aviaction? The 1st release house colours with the launch airline logos along the side? If I had that one wouldn't give a toss about some placcy stand, quite honestly. :D;)

True, true. :D;)

Ahhhhhhh . . . you see it too. :cool That is what I thought upon seeing it for the first time.

Sorry to hear that, but a bit of good news in the end.

You may wish to re-examine the Phoenix ones. A bit more detail, a bit less price, and perhaps slightly a bit more available, plus a choice of house colours -- Boeing Blue or Snow White. (And the engines aren't scraping the ground. :D;))

It's up to you, really. ;)

Wasnt really making comment about your taste, more that whatever anyone else may think, I find the new stuff so bland.... but would admit that this does have a few more curves.. than an 'hairbrush A3 something...

As to the Alitalia ...all I know old froot is I truned down one of those jobbies for £20... and one went on the bay for about £150... story of my life...
