Visited Malta last year on Holiday, wonderful island with bundles of aviation history and a couple of decent museums.
amazing facts about how much the island went through...
Project is trying to raise funds to send a Spit and a Hurricane back to Malta in September 2005 to commemorate VE day! Might have to book up for next year then... ;)
Can you imagine a Spit and a Hurri flying over Grand Harbour...WOW!!!
Oh and you can enter a competition to win a Jaguar...nice....

Thought Malta was more associated with three Gladiators.....

it is...but plenty of Spits and Hurris went out there!!!
Besides i don't think we'd get three Gladiators out there! ;)
A lot of Battle of Britain pilots served in Malta

My wifes great Uncle died in Malta flying Spitfires. His log book talks about "the sky being black with enemy planes" on some days. I had no idea how many planes and pilots were lost there until I heard his story. To think he survived the Battle of Britian to die there. Kind of sad, but a proud moment too.
There is an old movie about the battle for Malta made in the late forties or fifties. The title escapes me at the moment...something easy, probably Battle for Malta!! :D It tells the story of the island, with a romance thrown in for the women of course. :) Some pretty neat flying scenes too. It's worth seeing if you get a chance.

It was on the tele a couple of weeks back. The one good thing about shift working, you get to watch all the old movies shown in the afternoons! :)

Duxfords Autumn air show will have a 'Malta' theme to it and a tribute to all that fought, Hopefully there will be a Gladiator/Spitfire/Hurricane fly past...

Yes, that's the one!! I told you it was a simple title! :D
My wife's uncle actually went to Malta on the USS Wasp. Just a few years ago we got a copy of some declassified material that was made into a sort of home-made movie. It was distributed to the known descendants of those pilots and navy officers involved. It's kind of cool, but it's a little hard to watch as it uses personal 8mm footage that was seized during the war from one of the naval personal on board. It is the last known image of her great uncle.
