Rogue threads appearing with lots of links. I think it would be unwise to click on any of them. It all looks very dodgy - about as diecast as a bananna:wacko:

Yep, just for safety sake i wouldn't advise clicking on any of the atached links:eek:

Just had a look on the "who's on-line" section and there are quite a few new members joined and a lot more in the process of registering.

Not sure how many new members join per day but looks like shuttle could have his work load on here needlessly enhanced tonight having to delete spammers:(

Any Mods about, mass spam attack seems to be taking place on most threads with some 'new members'

I can't be bothered to translate all of the messages but one of them seems to be enquiring why someone has delivered 2000 large boxes to his house with 'Fragile - Corgi Stirling enclosed' written on the outer crate

It look's like we had a glitch in the forum software and some spammers have got through the system

These have now been removed and I am now working on removing infected threads. ;) :)

Has any of our personal information been compromised?

No.

As Admin I authorise the new members and this lunchtime a small amount of the "spammers" were authorised into the wrong section of the forum instead of being deleted.

We were not hacked, more of ticking the wrong tick box as I can see. :o

Hence, no information was compromised. ;) :)

I would also like to thank Agent (I think) for phoning me this afternoon to warn me. I was however smack bang in the middle of a 2012 budget meeting so could not leave or do anything. I listened to the message, but did not digest the name.

As soon as I got home with a 2 1/2 yr old hanging around and playing Peppa Pig, then went straight to work. ;) :)

Thanks guys. Enjoy. :)

dont wish to sound fick, but what do these spammers hope to achieve ?

Paul F

Seems to have been a lot of it (i.e. iffy internet use) about lately - I've received four or five emails from "expired" former email addresses of contacts over the last couple of weeks. At least one of them was from someone who died six months ago - hence easy to spot it was fake (or that someone had hacked her account).

At least one other forum I use seems to have been "visited" by similar rogues.

Why the sudden upsurge in cyber attacks....? I guess it goes on all the time, but it seems to have been more visible (to me) recently?

And, as per Mr Mint's question, what do they hope to achieve in hacking a forum?

And, as per Mr Mint's question, what do they hope to achieve in hacking a forum?

mostly the insertion of hyperlinks to boost search engine ranking - weight loss, pharmacy, illegal downloads and porn being the most regular links

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spamdexing

:(

has been of much concern on the SF forum I frequent, leading to the appointment of a mod solely to pursue and and destroy spam posts and threads, and the creation of a thread for other forumites to warn him of such abuses

it would be a shame if we needed one here....
