Was looking into a trip abroad next year with Air Miles from Newcastle to visit the Museum and found that the Aviodrome Museum outside Amsterdam at Lelystad asked for bankruptcy on the 25th November though it is still open to the public whilst they hope interested parties may take it over.

Looked like a big museum.

Perhaps Dutchie can keep us informed of future developments.

Not good news for the Museum - statement as follows

Press Release National Aviation Theme park Aviodrome

No acquisition of the Aviodrome

Lelystad, 22 december 2011-

The curator announces that the negotiations with a major party have not resulted in a takeover of the National Aviation Theme park Aviodrome Foundation-. The party where all since a few weeks was spoken has stated that the necessary financing through a bank impossible.
The Aviodrome shall with effect from Friday 23 december 2011 p.m. closed to the public for the time being.

The curator is now investigating other ways to achieve a new start. At the same time measures are taken to an auction of the collection and to prepare the buildings.

Wonder where the exhibits will end up

That's 23-12 news.

13-1: Curator has talks with 4 parties that are interested in picking up the pieces. Libema group (looking for 2 meuro and having talks with 20 (!) organizations), a Spanish party and two other financiers. Preparations for a auction in February continue.

Oh, and however small our country is, Lelystad is not close to Amsterdam...
I would say though that location, location, location is a problem for Aviodrome.
Relocate the museum smartly, closer to Amsterdam, Rotterdam or Utrecht and it's closer to high- and railway hubs and therefor many more potential visitors...

Hi Boris, sorry I missed this thread.
Aviodrome was (is) a great museum. It started years ago as AVIODOME (without "r") at Schiphol Airport Amsterdam. Aviation history can be populair, but the location Lelystad is "far away" for Dutch people (as Kubikali said). It also can be that aviation history does'nt "live". That's a pity imo. Bring it back to Schiphol Amsterdam. I'll keep you and the forum informed when I know more:)

I went to the Lelystad Airshow in 2004 and it was a superb event. The only airshow I've ever been to where you were given a programme of timings for each aircraft ( eg : Spitfire IX : 15:17 hrs ) and every single one arrived at the precise minute  ....

...which I thought was very 'Dutch' ;)

( Also the only time I've seen a Nord Noratlas perform and it was surprisingly noisy and spectacular  )

Apparantly Aviodrome won't disappear. The museum will be taken over by "Libéma Groep". They won't confirm, but there is a press conference tomorrow.

Should make that effort myself and make it a yearly thing. Every little bit...
