nice collection and set up there, like the way you have displayed them, i use acrylic risers and fully recommend them.

I still ''need'' a CC Blenhiem :(

Thanks,

I started collecting about three years ago and I mainly stuck with the Flying Forts and Libs, pretty much had all of them but over time I really took a shine to Bomber Command so sold most of my American heavies....

Off went 909 and BOL (hangs head in shame), however I did manage to pick up another BOL a few months ago and I didn't need to take out a loan either!

I think after xmas I will be investing in a more suitable display cabinet so I can pro-long my addiction hahaha!

Nice collection!! Just out of interest, what cabinets are those?

redflyer1
17th December 2011, 23:58
Danbouy,

They are the standard Ikea Detolf cabinets, think I picked them up for about £39.99 cheap and do the job

However I spent ages thinning down my collection and not spending any money that the diecast itch has struck me (again) and I might need to invest in some bigger cabinets...:D

That's a great lineup you have there, Redflyer!

If you do intend to expand your collection, you could of course go for new cabinets, but have you considered adding extra shelves to your Detolfs? I have four of them at the moment with extra shelves attached, which doubles the space for display. All that's needed is a few wire rope clips and extra shelves cut to size. Here's a pic to give you an idea:

http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj208/CP_RF/P1020327.jpg

At the top of the picture, you can see the upper shelf resting on four clips attached to the Detolf's frame.

Looking forward to more updates!

Cheers MiGAlley for the top tip about the Detolfs, I take it the add on shelf's are just as strong and stable as the others?

Cheers MiGAlley for the top tip about the Detolfs, I take it the add on shelf's are just as strong and stable as the others?

If you have the right size on the clips, then yes (they come in different sizes - I believe mine were 6 or 8mm. Best to measure the frame first). It takes a bit of tinkering to get them aligned properly, and fixing them is easier when the cabinet is not yet assembled. However, I did mine after the cabinets were assembled, and although that required some gymnastics, there's never been trouble with any of them. I wouldn't immediately recommend putting all your heavy bombers on the same shelf, but theoretically, even that shouldn't be a problem, if the clips are firm and snug.

Home this helps - if you have further questions, feel free to get in touch!

Ah, thanks, I wondered if they were. It's encouraging to see how well the Forts, Libs and Lancs fit in there.

redflyer1
18th December 2011, 22:14
They are pretty dust proof as well which is a bonus, I hope to expand my Lanc collection and should Corgi want to make a decent 8th air force Lib and maybe another silver fort then I might have to consider getting some other style of display cabinet....diecast are like women I just want too many at once!

A lot of my stuff will be going on evilbay as I am just going to stick with the Bomber Command theme and the Luftwaffe theme so my American heavies will be finding new homes in the not so distant future :(

Did you know that Lord and his crew were initially buried in a pigsty? The pigs had long gone in the winter of '44, it was the only patch of ground, not frozen solid soft enough to dig, when the crew's remains were recovered from the crash site.

Redflyer's excellent display has inspired me into a tribute to Guy Gibson. I've got 'Admiral Prune', ED932 and the Mossie he made his last sortie in. Medal wise all I need is a DSO and a DFC and a tribute to the leader of the Dambusters will be complete.

Thanks Chip Pax, always good to see another Hampshire man on the site. I wasn't a fan of the Bucc but it really has grown on me, just like the Lightning! however I didn't really appreciate it's size until I put it next to my Harrier and it is one BIG bird...well within reason :D

A few quick shots of some new additions of my collection, I am trying to get my hands on an ME 262 Night Fighter to add to my Luftwaffe night fighter collection and then I am thinking about going into 1:48 scale WW1 fighters!

What are peoples thoughts on the Corgi WW1 collection?

Thank you for the kind comments, I love the markings on the engine cowlings on both of those Thunderbolts. I think they look rather splendid in the chequered scheme! :)

Ah, right...that's the one I don't have.

I knew it wasn't AA32414 because of the tail art but thought it may have been AA32416.

I'll have a lookout for her...nice example.

The frightenings in particular are coming on very nicely....AA32310 would complement them well IMHO
