Four Handley Page Victors made a fuel stop at Corgi Field last week and I was lucky enough to be on hand with my camera. Seen were:

XL158, a flat white Victor B.Mk2 of No. 100 Squadron based at RAF Wittering in the early 1960s.

XL231, a gloss white Victor B.Mk2 of No. 139 Squadron also based at Wittering during August 1962.

XL511, a green/grey Victor K.2 of No. 55 Squadron based at Ascension Island during the Falklands War in May 1982.

XM715, a Hemp-coloured Victor K.2 of No. 55 Squadron based at Bahrain during the Gulf War in 1990.

All impressed this photographer as lethal-looking, aerodynamically clean, futuristic-looking aircraft with sweet lines. (Just like the Valiant..... :D )

Great photographs Bob.... Well impressive as always. :)

Very good as always Bob, but you would never get a white one and a hemp one together due to the time differences! You'll be able to add a glossy camouflaged 543 Sqn. SR.2 at the end of the year!

Over there to take part in Red Flag again?? :D

Thanks, CFBC, kind of you to say so. :)

What you say is true, Albert, but at Corgi Field anything is possible. :D
These are a few of the many books on V-bombers, and it's interesting that the Warpaint publication shows a color 5-view spread of XM715 (the Hemp-colored bird) in green/grey camouflage. Come to think of it, many of the Corgi Victors are in there. I don't suppose you have a copy of this, now, do you? ;)

Thanks for your help in the new 1/144 Victor & Vulcan. Nice to see. Goonybird and I are pleased to be getting a gloss green/grey Victor. Most of the color photos clearly show gloss, so thanks! :)

Oh, by the way, would you be kind enough to advise Corgi regarding the first book shown, "V-Bombers"? They might be interested in the fact that, according to the sub-title, there were actually three V-bombers. (hehehe......Yank humour.... :D )

Very nice piccies Bsteinipms. I'm glad to see Americans know what V-bombers are. Do you have just these four? There are more from Corgi. Where do you buy your books? Amazon.co.uk?

Thanks for the kind words, Vbombers3: much appreciated. Yes, we Yanks are slowly recognizing the genius of British aviation and have just noticed that you have some sort of nuclear deterrent force.....(just teasing.... :D ). I'm fond of the V-force aircraft and have been lobbying Corgi for some time now for a Valiant which you may be aware of.

Yes, Amazon.co.uk would be a good source for these titles if you live in the UK. Otherwise, here are a few good sites for aviation books here in the Colonies:

Bob,

I presume you have added the 'panel lines' to some of the models? They look very good.

Have you an 'Area 51' on your field. It could make an interesting little scene if you added something like this little UFO!!!!

Yes, Shuttle, I've added the panel lines. I feel this emphasizes the detail and makes for a "busy" look which I like. I do recognize others don't like this look and feel I'm scrawling graffiti on the Holy Grail, but (as you fellers say) hey ho!....these are mine, I'm big now, and I can do what I want. ;)

Your model in the photo is fascinating. I see several possibilities here: a diamond pendant, some sort of South American poisonous flower, one of those balls covered with suction cups which will enable it to stick to a window regardless of how it's thrown, or perhaps an electronic Personal Data Assistant. C'mon, don't keep me in suspense, what is it? :D

Bob,

I like the lines as they do make the models appear more authentic and as you say, you have paid for them so you can do what you like with them!!

The UFO has appeared on this forum before, as it is from the Product Enterprise (http://www.productenterprise.com/andersondiecast2.html) UFO box set. UFO was a great '70 TV show from Gerry Anderson. I think you might like some of the designs for aircraft from some of his earlier shows (Stingray and Thunderbirds) as they certainly had some futuristic concepts. In fact, the Victor would have easily 'fitted in' with its great shape!

Thanks for the kind words, Scrounger; much appreciated. :D
The various vehicles on Corgi Field have been discussed on other threads but here's a brief overview:

1. The aircraft tugs, baggage carts and conveyor truck were based on FLYT resin castings and all ended up being mostly scratch-built. The APU cart is entirely scratch-built out of Evergreen sheet styrene.

2. The other vehicles are N-scale vehicles from Athearn, Classic Metal Works, Con-Cor, and others. These can be found in the model railroad section of your hobby shop, or here:

Some of the runways and taxiways at Corgi Field are made up out of model railroad materials, while others were procured from commercial sources, several sources of which are here:

The background is one of many US scenes on a paper mural available from Walthers in their "Instant Horizon series. Mine is "Sagauro Desert", reminiscent of Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, and eastern California: http://www.walthers.com/exec/search?quick=background%20scene&start=30
