I am not too sure that putting the vulcan back into the sky is a good idea. I love the vulcan and it is one of my favourite aircraft, I would love to see it fly, but am not sure it is wise.

My reasons for this are the money which is involved, which to start off with is a lot...but then when the money inevitably ploughs into the motorway because the pilot is inexperienced and does not like the sliding drift and high stall speeds, it becomes silly and there would be an uproar.

I would love to see it fly but I think a video will do, because if it was supposed to be flying now, it would be.

A fellow supporter... I think its gonna take an awful lotta dosh to keep it up.. (if the CAA ever give it a cert in the first place..).. but hope it does now as an awful lot of peeps have put money into the thing... anyway attached the following thread received by members of the 'club'

Moderators.. do your worst...................

It's taken over seven years, but at long last the end is in sight. Next year could see the first test flight of the last Avro Vulcan to fly. Thanks to the commitment of over £2,700,000 from the UK Heritage Lottery Fund, guidance from the Civil Aviation Authority and support-in-kind from the UK Aerospace Industry, we're nearly there!

Along with our partners, the Imperial War Museum and the Royal Air Force Museum, we'll be telling the story of the Cold War of the 1950s and 60s through flights of this spectacular aircraft. We will engage the young in the story of their grandparents' time, and excite everyone with the sight and sound of this amazing piece of engineering.

There is, of course, a reason for contacting you: I need to engage the help of everyone in one last push. We’re nearly there, but not quite. Through our own efforts, we have raised a substantial amount of money to add to the Heritage Lottery Fund grant, but not quite enough. Our fund-raising track record gives me confidence that we will achieve our goal of raising the last £500,000 needed over the next year.

But we need to raise £100,000 by the end of this month, to ensure we can start the work to return the aircraft to flight in time for the 2006 Airshow Season, and thus make the whole operation self-sustaining.

Here’s where you come in. The only way I can see of achieving this is by using the Internet to reach as wide an audience as possible: I find myself needing to ask my friends from the 21stCentury Internet-enabled world to help me with a mid-20thCentury heritage project.

If, as I expect, you share some interest in aircraft, engineering, and getting the young to think about engineering. But you probably also know some like-minded people, and they themselves may know others. As much as I'm against unsolicited emails, please could you forward this one on to anyone who might be interested? I'm hoping to create a chain reaction, rather like the one that the Vulcan was designed to deliver!

The project’s website is, as you know,

www.vulcantothesky.com

On the home page is our brand new e-donate facility; if everyone who visited the website in the past three months had donated £5, we would have already made the £100,000 target!

No matter what’s donated, everyone becomes a "Friend of Vulcan to the Sky"; donors of over £250 become Associates. Being a Registered Charity, we can gain an additional 28% through Gift Aid for UK taxpayers.

Once again, please could you help by visiting our website, and forwarding this email and/or the URL above to any friends and colleagues who might be interested, with a request for them to do likewise?

Yes, I unashamedly confirm that this is a call to action! So please don't hesitate to reply, with any comments or questions that come to mind.

With kind regards

Robert Pleming

"I would love to see it fly but I think a video will do, because if it was supposed to be flying now, it would be."

I express some of your concerns there SSRST, but the whole point is that they and we are raising the money to get it flying again, so it's mean't to be.....

Somehow and someday this baby will fly again and peeps four miles away will feel the roar and hear the take-off of a Vulcan!! (as Agentx say's dependant on the CAA cert of course), but living for so long near Waddington as a kid, I have NEVER heard anything like it since.....

:) CFBC - Fully agree - The VULCAN is an important part of our Heritage/Aviation History!!

If Corgi have any interest left in the Aviation models scene then a 1/72 Special Edition release to conicide with her return to the skies is a MUST!!! it does not have to be limted, just make one, make it 'Special' and include a proper certificate and perhaps a book or booklet detailing the history of the aircraft!! Additionally avoid 'dumping' said model as you should have done with the various 'Dambusters' Lancasters!!!

You are after all an International company, with at least some of your subject models, show some respect!!
