It's the story of a WW1 Camel pilot and is considered to be a classic. It's one of those where all the incidents really happened and only the character's names are changed. It became a favourite read of bomber crews in WW2, as they thought it the only aviation book that accurately described their thoughts and feelings while combat flyng.
My main reason for the post is that a new 'book about the book' has just been published and is a perfect companion volume. If you order it direct from the author it will come with a signed dedication.
There is of course a cunning plan in all this....
I aim to get all you lot so interested in the first intrepid birdmen that you launch a mithering campaign of epic proportion upon Corgi. Yours truly will sit in his deckchair at Vert Gallant smoking his violin and playing a tune on a lighted flare, smiling as the first diecast SE5 comes in to land. :)

Read it some years ago, Sailor. Along with 'Sagittarius Rising' by Cecil Lewis It's rated as one of the finest memoirs of flying in WW1.

If my memory serves me correctly, he had trouble getting it published and was helped by T E Lawrence ( of 'Arabia' ) who was a great fan of the book.
