Yes sadly Iloveplanes we have a culture in the UK, of no respect any longer for any thing, an embarresment of our British Culture and Heritage, and a load of PC minded wishey-Washey Liberal Minorities telling the majority what to do, and pandering to said Minorities.

I for one I'm getting slightly fed up with it.

But you can bet if it did get Vandalised, said Perpetrators would be whisked off on holiday somewhere, and "Related" too.

Yeah right give me a baseball bat, I'll soon relate to them.....

In the States you often see bumper stickers advising miscreants of the vehicle's security system:

"WARNING! This car is protected by Smith & Wesson!"

(I suppose I should explain, for my British cousins, that S & W is a major handgun manufacturer in the U.S.)

Agreed Stealth and B/S - Shoot the buggers!! Club em!! They won't do it again....!!! In fact - chop their ruddy hands off........

Simple.....

(Another tin hat time)

P.S - A worthy and fitting sculpture and monument!! Had a leaflet at Duxford last time I was there and been to the website......

There may be many things wrong with the UK, but at least we don't have the same insane gun culture as the USA. And they wonder why so many people are killed by firearms every year! Can you imagine gangs of our lovable neds armed with guns?

I hope that the BoB Memorial is treated with the respect it deserves.

totally agree glenshiel, but cant understand the amount of vandalism there is in the uk, in our area the glass in the bus shelters gets smashed on a regular basis, but the statues in london of churchill and harris seem to be ok dont they so hopefully this monument will bo ok

The site at Capel Le Ferne (http://www.24hourmuseum.org.uk/museum_gfx_en/AM17635.html) is well worth a visit. They had a problem with some morons driving a motorbike across the prop blades a while ago but I paid my respects recently and it looks very nice and peaceful. Some people(?) are just not worthy! Anyway, for the rest of us who know how to behave it is fully recommended!

As a police officer I see far too much of that "crap" that you're all describing. Unfortunately there are too many bleeding hearts who are not aware of the ever increasing problems. They are the ones who make all the noise. Here in Canada it's the fault of judges who don't care what you damage until it's theirs...after all, it's only a property crime.

Sorry, I digress. The monument looks awesome, or at least the bits and pieces I've seen. I hope that we are all proven wrong about the potential for vandalism.

Get this months Aeroplane Magazine - some absolutely stunning shots of the Monument.

It is going to look amazing - need to find what date they are planning to unveil as I would dearly love to attend.....

If the 'Migrationwatch' website is correct, then one Londoner in 4 is a migrant worker, another quarter are disaffected second generation immigrants and literally one in 20 London residents are asylum seekers.

I fear that this fine monument will at best be seen as a baffling irrelevancy by most 'Londoners' and will be used as a convenient Thameside urinal.

I'll certainly send them some folding stuff (which they really need). I think they can get tax back on donations (probably mentioned in the excellent Aeroplane article from last month) so remember to do that if it applies to you. I have asked when their online donation button will start working - will let you know when I get a reply.

I dropped into Capel Le Ferne yesterday to see the new Spitfire replica. The new memorial looks very good as well. I really urge anyone who gets a chance to pay their respects as it is a lovely place to go.

After the 'Euro Militaire' show in Folkestone I dropped in on the memorial with CFBC. I think he was very impressed. The weather was great but they will soon be shutting down for winter so if you are thinking of going you need to do it soon!!

Thanks Shuttle for showing me the way to the Battle Of Britain Monument which is just North of Folkstone, not South as we found out! ;)

Hey, great day and a great place to finish the day off lovely before a lonmg drive home....

The Monument itself is great to look at, the wall with all the names of the B.O.B Pilots also sums up how many pilots lost their lives for us to live the lives we live and to see both replica Hurricane and Spitfire and follow it up with a home brew in the cafe was fantastic.....

Here are a few pictures of the hour plus we spent there today.... I must get down to this part of the country more often.... :)

Was up there last week to see the monument, not impressed to see some exchange students trying to force a rolled up newspaper into the hand of the leading pilot figure, didn't say anything (no point,) but a stare and a slow shake to the head, he changed his mind, although why some idiots seem to have to use this amazing work of art as a place to put there chewing gum just beats me........
