Got ambitious Tuesday evening and modified a spare Witty JEJ Spit, which became the inspiration for the latest from No4 Productions.... :p

Hey No.4... Your artwork just keeps getting better and better. Nice one and thank you for sharing with us.

Good stuff. :)

Sure do! ;) I hope Ed Russell is looking after her. ;)

Here she is just prior to her departure from Duxford in 2003.

I hope you're an inspiration to Corgi. Excellent job.More like an embarrasment... (in that they have a marketing dept... etc etc) Just why have we not had a clipped wing Spit...??

I hope the finish on some of those pre pros for 2006/7/8 will not be carried over to the finished article..

Beautifully done, No4. Tell us more about the process of modifying the model, if you'd be so kind. :)

Naw, gotta be a case of strap in, then go low level @ max speed between two hangars. :D

Tried that Goony, but all I got was two hangars with long creases in them. Tough, those diecast wings. :D

Thanks for the kind words one and all. Wasn't nothin' compared to the models we've seen you produce Bob, but I'll give you the run down.

First step was to remove the slipper tank so the wings can be separated from the fuselage and cockpit realigned. Actually, I took the opportunity to swap it with the piloted cockpit from the Israeli MkIX since I plan to display it in flying mode.
While the wings were off I took a Dremel tool with cutoff wheel to the tips, removing the required section and shaping the new squared tip accordingly. I used a few photos and line drawings as reference here.
The JEJ markings were wiped away with good ol' nail polish remover and the dark green areas that went with them and the wingtips were retouched with Polly Scale and Tamiya acrylics.
I'd like to credit Witty here on the accuracy of their paint, because my RAF colors were a perfect match! It could have been painful if I needed to start mixing paint.
Finally the Tally-Ho 1/72 codes and serial numbers were applied, and that's it! All told it took about 3 hours, but only because I got lucky with the paint. :)

Methinks Messrs Witty are fast gaining respect after a rather shaky start.. (hows about an Eagle..?)
