No.4 - Give me a few hours and I will show you what we have with regards the Diorama set-up's.

CFBC

Here we go No.4 and members. We have a number of dioramas of various sizes in which the four first revetments, both European and Middle Eastern/Malta are approx 12 1/2" wide x 11 1/2" long and come in a Left Hand and Right Hand side that will match-up.

The above will take 1/72 and I have also used a 1/48 warbird when I have taken pictures in the past for the newsletter (Armour & E.International).

The other rectangle bases are simply to display your aircraft on and are 10" x 8" which are rectangle. These are tarmac and also have slight edges of grass. Again these will display various sizes including 1/144th scale.

Each diorama is handmade and is unique in the materials used in which the display is set and is very lightweight for posting yet is very robust and looks a,azing when aircraft are displayed on them.

Here are a few pictures. I am at presently in the middle of designing a webpage, but if anyone is interested in any of these dioramas then please e-mail theteam on:

Detail on them is superb and they have a good finish on them. It's nice to have a diorama where the grass, sand etc.. doe's not come off, well worth the money in my opinion! :)

These dios are superb! Methinks that the Duke P-40 + Med Revetment= happiness...

By the way, does anyone know of any WW2 airfield buildings apart from the Airfix control tower? Are there any blister hangars available in 1/72? I need one for my Hartfordbridge/Dunsfold scene!

Well, there are some in "Surrey Airfields of the Second World War" by Len Pilkington. Fascinating book, where I got the 414 idea (Dunsfold) from.

There are some photos at the following sites:

http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~rwbarnes/defence/silloth.htm
http://www.rafharrowbeer.co.uk/buildings.htm
http://daveg4otu.tripod.com/airfields/lym.html

Here's a blister hangar or two during WWII with P-51s and P-47s using 'em.

http://www.78thfightergroup.com/history/78thFGHomesweetrutley.html

Although these are post war adaptations, a Blister would just be the semi-circular structure, with none of the "flat side" walls and windows- see the WWII one.

I have been experimenting designing a 1:72 scale card Belfast hangar, as an alternative to the 1:144 scale C Type and Modern hangars.

However, experience and experimentation has confirmed that even using 230 gram card stock (generally the absolute maximum for ‘normal’ printers) there is a substantial lack of structural strength. (Like NONE) And, the sheer size (circa 3ft. x 3ft 4 in.) is mind boggling. Who has that my space to gather dust?

A practical solution to the 1:72 scale dilemma could be a blister hangar, I think I might give it a try. I'll let anyone interested know when it's done.

Datacroft, old boy, see the earlier posts- judging by CFBC's reaction, we may see one in 1/72!

Mind you, I'm surprised that none of the kit manufacturers have made a kit- we really need a WWII aircraft shelter in 1/72!

Well, I'm not much of a modeller meself, but, after seeing a dio at Tangmere with two C1-roundeled, 1 Sqn 1942 Hurris in this kind of revetment, I think some pics would be good, DT! Might even make one meself!

Blister hangar, Dispersal, Blast shelter- y'know, a range of 1/72 airfield buildings wouldn't go amiss (HINT HINT!!)!

SNAFU,

I bought the set a few weeks ago and it is sitting nearby taunting me!! When I get the chance to build it it will start to appear in some of my shots. I also picked up one of the trailer type fuel bowsers that the RAF used as well to add some variety.

Are these dios more of the same (just that the others all sold out) or new ones? What's available?

I'd love to see 'em, CFBC!

By the way, any chance of medium/heavy bomber-sized dios? I'd love to put my Welly (and RAF B-25, when it arrives) in one of these fantastic dios, but they do seem a bit small...

Want a hangar?

Proper hangar would be too big. I'd love a Dunsfoldesque Blister Hangar though.

Or maybe a non hangar space for the aircraft to be bombed up- complete with bomb trolley if possible! It could just be an enlarged square base, with some grass round the edges, and some tarmac for the bomber...

Mr Morley,

Go take a peek at this page (http://www.diecast-aviation.co.uk/html/diorama-1.html) or if you have anything more specific or larger you are looking for then please feel free to use the e-maiul on this page and let us know what you are looking for. We can accomadate any size (if you are looking for a Wellingon diorama as per the simple bases but on a larger size - no problems. Simply tell us the size you are after).

We will have a few more down at Biggin this w/e along with Armour diorama's too.

Right, at great expense I have acquired a digital camera/thingey and am learning to use it. To be able to turn full size buildings into 1/72nd what measurement and in what measure - ie feet and inches, do you need, and who was it I was supposed to send pictures to when I do get them and dont get arrested??????

Right, I'm still at large, despite dodging searchlights, vicious guard dogs, insane rabbits and collapsing banking!
Did I mention I'm off to Malta tomorrow? Well, just in case I forgot.....

It will be available in a Left Hand or Right Hand display format or a complete display format (supplied as a feft/right hand, one piece, but shortened slightly) and will allow you to display one 1/72nd, one 1/48th or two on the shortened version.

The dioramas are very nice, but any chance of something a little more modern-looking as well? Even if it's just a tarmac hardstanding it'd look great with the jets...

Dogtwenty
4th November 2005, 18:07
Modern? these ARE modern. All built circa 1939, what more do you want man, all you need is hard standing in concrete or tarmac colour for you moden jets, or are you after a HAS perchance?

Craig
4th November 2005, 18:50
Yeah, the HAS certainly would be cool, especially with a Lightning sat in it  but I was thinking of something with the more modern paint on it, the taxiing lines etc. The tarmac ones look distinctly WW2 to me, but then again might just be me! :o

Craig
5th November 2005, 03:36
Oh dear, i do apologise, getting my QRA mixed with my HAS!!! Yes I agree a QRA shed would be nice for the Lightning, but I still wouldn't mind the HAS! Having said that though Corgi haven't really done all that much suitable for the HAS, most of the aircraft seem to be in airshow colour schemes! Oh for a plain, simple 13 Sqn Tornado GR4! With Sqn markings like those who needs an airshow aircraft? I'll still hold out for the QRA shed though (or the HAS!!!)

Dogtwenty
5th November 2005, 22:20
