:D If theres anything left worth dumping you will more than likely find it there!!
If its less than Agents operatic magical figure it ain't worth the table/floor space!! Any dealer with a grain of common sense would take it to their local Corporation Tip first !!! ....... imho ....... but then I am probably in a minority of one .........

Whoa! Just back from NEC. Better than last one-didn't break my arm this time!!! :D . Had to hide some boxes from the mrs!. Old Crow (not the mrs) 1/32 mustang for 25 smackers. and finally got my drone herc and dday dakota 3-set at a decent price. Best bargain I saw but out of cash (rats)was the B17 3-set with p47 and p51. 1/72nd for a decent £39.50! that was £147.99 retail. cheap as chips! Other buys were Dragon f16 (£11) and a slightly marked plastic travel agent type plane, TNT colors Airbus A300F in approx 1/100th (21"long).gotta be worth the 15 squids.
other notables were probably the US mossie @12; dayglo chinook @12.50.
It appears market forces have changed Corgis policy re : dumping??

Wow... This is more serious than I had thought.... Looks like and sounds like Corgi are having a MAJOR clearout of slightly older productions.... Manamagement at Corgi are clearing the shelves and bringing in some dosh however and trying to free-up some cash for something.......
Very interesting... Be curious to hear what Mr Spock has to say on the matter as I knowhe was visiting too....
Thanks Mr Goonybird, hope the arms ok!! :)

Went to NEC today! Although i didn't buy there was some very cheap AA's floating around...
The award for best VALUE FOR MONEY corgi ever has to be the 1:32 Spitfire at £25.00! Closely followed by the 'Pathfinders Set' at £40.00
A lot of the 'First Half 2004' single seat fighters were going for £10.00 and Buccaneers galore at £7.50 (What a shame... Bucc's a lovely model, what a way to go :( ) i have one Bucc that i paid £26.00 when it come out!
The 1:18 Spitfires are intresting... not for the serious collecor however probably great fun if you have kids!!! :D Not sure it would wash with my missus... don't think it would fit in my Daughters 'My little pony' stable! :D
Although i didn't buy it was a good fair and i enjoyed! :)
goonybird
29th August 2004, 22:14
Hi Charley where u from? I was @ NEC and ignored the 1/18 spits as looked a bit plasticky. on a separate string see back page Aviation News. A fairly well known supplier advertising an Elite force range including an F/A 18 Hornet in 1/18th (thats nearly 3foot long for you non-metric types.)

29th August 2004, 22:18
I saw that add; is it a toy or a serious collectors model....a toy me thinks
goonybird
29th August 2004, 22:23
Obviously plastic, but piccie looks good. But how the hell do you get this one past the mrs.
charley
30th August 2004, 20:03
I have a 1:18 Corsair and although its very well detailed it just feels 'toy' like! No bad thing, it hangs from my 'study' ceiling and looks fab!
The Spitfires look big and bold...more for the kids me thinks but good fun!!!

:D Ascot - The title says it all, these items are really toys and more akin to made up plastic kits. I believe we will find that this is where Corgi sees their future!!
PS - I hope I am wrong. ;)

:) Mr. Lofty, - I suspect you may have to wait awhile for that one, mega cheap examples are going to be few and far between!! :)
spock1
31st August 2004, 01:04
 For those that saw some of the prices at the NEC I think you will find that on many items they will not last for long, certainly some of the dealers will be seeing little if indeed any profit margin which anyone with even the slightest appreciation of business will know cannot be sustained!! :)
Another way of looking at it is simply the longer it goes on the less dealers their will be.
As regards the £40 ?? Pathfinder Set (thought it was £50!! ... probably was first thing) then think you would have found the box to be totally cream crackered/French Connected . All that glistens ain't necessarily gold!!
charley
31st August 2004, 03:17
Pathfinder box was damaged and 'French Connected' as you put it :D !
I agree with you though, i think prices will firm up as less dealers get involved. Talking to one dealer Corgi are saying that they will be producing less of each example for the '05' releases, they have too if the brand is to grow...
Agent X20
31st August 2004, 09:22
Trouble is the extra's, the difference between say 2000 and 4000 models costs Corgi very little...
I think, only an opinion, that they will dispense with the limited edition numbers.. as this gives us an indication as to the likely dumpster value..!!

Charley, Gooney .... I was there and am sorry to have missed the opportunity to say hello. Was walking around with a Forum badge on, but obviously we need to get T shirts or invasion striped Anoraks or something issued for recognition purposes! My own fault, I should have arranged something on here last week. Never mind .. there will be other times.
Other bargains [dumps?] I noticed were the "Booby Trap" and You Can't Miss it" Liberators, at £30 and the B52 with X-15 at £17.50 [dammit!].
I'm not sure what prompted this glut but I certainly can have some sympathy with dealers who had these models on their stalls at something more approaching rrp,... but hope they can understand how collectors feel when only a few weeks ago they payed almost double for 'em! Strangely though, [sorry Lofty] the Coastal Command Liberator was still at £55 ... so perhaps it has a lot to do with the popularity of the model version too.
Finally gave in and bought me Canberra ... couldn't resist any longer even though I'm sure it'll be around for a lot less than I paid for it in a few weeks time :( ... still, ... it's a cracking model, and I'm worth it .. whatever the present Mrs raff may think!

I had my Air Spain Britannia shirt on! But oughta arrange in advance, next Nec?? Like the idea of D-day striped shirts but I don't support Newcastle!!
You would think we would be obvious to spot as 'Corgiitus Collectoritus' Usually spotted rummaging head down amongst boxes of model planes, whilst exhibiting the characteristic twitch, and muttering about overspray and pink yorks. :D

Think they will level out about £45/50... with the unpopular one/s at £35.... theres just too much metal in the market at present... 1000 collectors with 20,000 models.. hardly pocket money.. IMHO.. :D :D :D

Hi snafu.
Yeah spot on. Eismeer jg5. saw service in northern Norway during WW11. Eismeer was an honourary title which roughly translated means frozen water.
The aviation artist Mark Postlethwaite did a good painting of 2 jg5 FW-190's flying over Herdla. Hope the link works :).
The painting looks much better than the link.

Must be a real touching moment for these old vets to see aircraft restored and returned to the sky knowing that 60 odd years ago that they were flying that actual aircraft. Certainly bring a tear or two to the eyes i would think.

Yes Mr Spock1 and this is true. I even know the two traders they were too and quite funny it was also, but you also get trader deal with trader even before said earlybirds have arrived, but alas both ways, that is the natures of the fair's and as you quite rightly say "early bird catches the worm"....

S'pose it's down to me then. NEC today. C**P?
Obviously missing a certain cheapo dealer. the two other main dumpsters had nothing special. RCAF lancs were around £20-22 not so many libs and other bin ends. Bargain was probably the Victor/Vulcan twinset at £40. New seac welly £50. Wish I'd the cash for NGNG at a tenner (still!!) Not much new in evidence. Opposite to what I was expecting, but supports whats has been posted. I went today with the mission to pick up the two new Gemini 250 B737s. but spent my money elsewhere on the 400ths as posted. £95 for a collection. Still not sure, and that was after advice from a (in)famous enthusiast/specialist trader. Overall a bit of a let down. And didn't have time to go to the Digital Imaging show next door. :(

NEC today. Dumpsters had very little to offer (sounds like supplies truncated).
In fact a bit boring all round, with the exception of Spock and Bluesky? Only came away with a legends dc3 and a Capital Viscount (sitting all alone on a dumpsters stall) if this can hang around at a bargain price, then doesn't bode well for new civvies. doom gloom :D :D
It appears the playing field is changing for dealers and punters alike.
Didn't know 'Shuttle' was in prison! But fear not....there is a campaign in Birmingham to get him released :) ......All the buses at the NEC have the statement...
"FREE SHUTTLE" across their back windows! :D :D :D
As mentioned by Goonybird not as much to choose from as at the last NEC. For this reason ended up buying a few things I planned to and a few I hadn't.
Was actually after a couple of blue corsairs  which, not suprisingly, I found in the bins (even cheaper than I expected) so that was good.
Particularly pleased with a little 1:72 scale metal jeep (Cararama) that I picked up for £1.50. It's very detailed and looks great in the cabinet next to my Dragon P51's

I think it's because it's one of the biggest UK toy fairs and is a fair representation of what is happening with Corgi/Dumping.
I will be going tomorrow so will report back with some prices etc.
I always enjoy going to the NEC as it's not too far for me (Cheltenham) but I personally wouldn't travel all the way from the other side of London Rusty (I imagine you get some pretty decent fairs near you anyway don't you?)

Hmmm, well that is the problem you see. There is in fact nothing in London. No toyfairs, no swopmeets, nothing except a couple of M/Zs. ...and no DeAg mags either.

If you view it as a day out it might be worth it......BUT nowhere near as many stalls selling just AA's last time I went as there were a year or so ago (just 4 I think)
If your after any of the latest releases you probably wont save much money on them.
Older stuff can be very cheap if they happen to have anything you want (usally plenty of Corsairs, Zero's big stuff etc.....rare to find valuable stuff marked up cheap which you used to hear about)
Seems to be a smaller selection each time I go possibly due to changes within Corgi will be interesting to see what happens tomorrow

Just back, OK I will try to sum things up and give an idea of the kind of prices models were going for.
Seems the dumping goes on (including the newer lower production runs) although maybe not such huge quantities as before.
I don't collect big stuff (1:32 fighters, 1:72 bombers or civils) and don't know what the MRRP on them is but they seemed to represent a lot of metal per £ (not surprisingly)
1:32 Mossies from £42
1:32 ME109's from £27
1:32 P51D's from £19.99
1:72 Libs from £17
1:72 B17 from £19.99
1:72 B17, P51, P-47 £29.99
1:144 civils (don't ask me what) from £7
I bought about half a dozen 1:72 warbirds for around £10 each including the P-47 'daring dottie' which I very nearly bought a couple of weeks ago for close to MRRP.
Anyway despite the above I will continue to buy the models that I really like for near MRRP when they come out and get the ones I quite like if they turn up cheap. This seems to work for me as very few these (the ones I really like) ever seem to crop up that cheaply at a later date. :)
One guy was selling a whole range of plastic 1:72 warbirds for about £6 or £7 quid each (I will find the relevant thread and go into this a bit more when I have some time)
Bargain of the day?
As usual something I didn't go for or expect to find there!
2 books "the enclopedia of air warfair" and "the encyclopedia of the worlds combat aircraft" both full of colour pics and profiles, excellent! Both £2 each :D

Not much to add to P51's comments. Much less in evidence. It does appear that what is cheap is older stuff, and when thats gone, thats it.
However I did buy my first Corgi for a while. Got the new, just released, Western DC3 for £**.** :) . Cheap enough for me, and while not dump price, puts a bit of a mockery on Corgi's so called new pricing policy.
Also bought the new Aeroclassics 1/400th Air Atlantic/que set of DC3,Electra, DC6. Still cant help feeling that these are too small. :)
And why was the SEAC Wellington at £30 still there at 2pm, after I'd seen the same stall with it at Westpoint 2 weeks ago. If that doesn't go 'tis a poor lookout. :(

:D Mr. P51D,
Nice price rundown and in the main obvious as to where they came from !! You obviously missed the cheaper 1/32 Mossies which were still available up to about 1pm.

Saw one model this seller had marked up at £29.99 with a big 'special price' tag of £39.99 next to it
Your right I didn't spot those cheaper mossies, mind you they might as well have been £10 there is no way my wife would let me park one of those in the house however much i liked it!
Oh I forgot to mention, I bought my first jets today :o and they were from the fighting machines range :o :o (no scale  )
They had just been knocked down to £1 each so bought them for the novelty factor.....I have them on my desk now, I actually quite like them!

:) Mr. P51D,
It did not go unnoticed by other traders and customers alike and not good for the image of any toy fair trader !!........ :(
As to the Showcase stuff they are excellent models and you really cannot go wrong at a quid each. Somewhere within this Forum there is or wassome truly excellent posts of modifications that have been made to them that really improve the appearance. Shame about the varying scales but they have been made to fit the box as far as I am aware.
Certain ones have proved very popular with both wargamers and railway modellers as they are at or very close to the required scales......... :)
Happy hunting !!.......... :)

Didn't miss much. Usual suspects Some bargains. 1/32nd mozzies and Me109s at about the normal dump price. Welly's still dropping like a stone, obviously a more specialist subject, and overdone already at 4 issues.
I thought best bargain of the day was the RAF camo liberator at £29.99 sitting on its own on a 'various toys' stand.
What was noticeable is the increased number of sellers, with the new range (jul-dec 05)of Corgi AA's. This is opposite to what has been expected, and also prices holding up on most despite the increased competition.
Good for Corgi, bad for the buyer, as everyone is charging the same! :(

Would have liked more time at the NEC to browse and chat to the traders but other commitments meant I had to rush.
Got a few more gap fillers and even surprised myself by getting a 1.32 scale 109. I always said I had NO room for this scale but what a cracker for 24.99.
1.32 scale FOV stuff looked good for the money compared to MRRP Corgi stuff but on closer inspection much more toy like.
Met an interesting guy next to Garys models stall who was around in WW2 and collects 1.72 scale Battle of Britain stuff. Talked me into getting the Lane Legend Spit. Wish I had more time to talk to him. If your on the Forum could you drop me a PM...thanks.

It was the first one,AA33901 Supermarine Spitfire Mk1A X4590/PR-F, 609 Sqn. RAF. I got it from the stall which had the FOV 1/32 spit on it, he also had 2 ME109`s AA34901 Messerschmitt Bf109G ‘Red 6’, Oberfeldwebel Arnold Doring,II./JG300 and AA34902 Messerschmitt Bf109G 'Black Double Chevron', Maj. Was also at NEC and managed to pick up a few well priced hole fillers.
AA99126 1/72 Pacific 8th Army Airforce three piece set (B17, P-47 & P-51) for £30. Wanted this set mainly for the T-Bolt and the Mustang. Both excellent models and would have paid 30 notes just for these two alone, so got a B-17 for free :D . T-bolt is pure excellence and imho better than NGNG.
AA34003 B-24 Liberator "Strawberry Bitch" £20. One i've wanted for a while and is even better out of the box.
AA34802 SEAC Wellington £22.50. Wasn't really looking to purchase this "Welly" as i want the 9 Squadron one but at this price it would have been criminal not to.
US32213 P-F1 Mustang "Mrs Bonnie" nosefart £12.00.
AA32706 Hunter "Red Devils" £5. A steal even though its been knocking around toyfairs now for ages.
Still couldn't be tempted by the cheap 1/32 Mozzies ( £34-£37 ). Shame really as they look great models but their size is just to much for me.

I'm looking at a 7 hour round trip by train & £22 train fare, unless some kind soul is passing my way (Bexleyheath), in which case petrol money will be on offer, so it would need to be worth my while going, plus I wouldn't be able to get there until 10.30 & would have to leave by 3pm.

I used to go to the toyfairs very early at 7-7.30am and picked-up a few bargains here and there - rare ones, but not anymore as they are now far and few between and most toyfair traders inter-trade and some even walk around buying stuff and hiding it away for later too and with the earlybird prices going up, well it just ain't worth it.... As Subs has said you have to weigh the cost of getting there also in the factor.... :)

I might knock this one on the head & save my money for toy fairs in the new year. The only thing I'd really be after would be 'G-George' or 'Admiral Prune' which I've seen for £100 on a few websites or 'S-Sugar' which I've seen at £125. So I'd have to pay £80/£105 at the NEC to save any money on any of the three (given the train fare), & what are the chances of that?

Sounds like not many made it then. Nearly didn't myself, too much red last night. There were only 6 or 7 stalls with more than a handful of aircraft stuff, and not really a wide range at that. Only 1 seller with Mount and Ride and Bit O lace. too expensive, no Lanc Grandslams and same seller had Dambusters for £55. Missed out on a used but mint S-suger for £60, while I was dithering someone whipped it from under me nose. One stall had a solitary Mossie with no price amongst his cars. It was the USAAF one, which I've been after, so after passing his stall for the 3rd time I asked the price. Three fifty he said  I nearly walked on thinking he meant £35, then realised he did mean £3.50. He had 3, all mint in mint boxes, I had all 3 for a tenner  There weren't many legends about, or P-40s, only 1 1/32 Mossie and no IXOs which I wanted to have a good look at :( . Only 1 seller had any Witty stuff. There were a few bargains though, night ops Heinkel £20,FW yellow 2 £8 and the usual 1/32 stuff.
Anyhow, got me Canadian Welly for £27,RAF Mitchell for £50,Dragon Desert Spit £10, Witty Clostermann £10,some other Dragons.Hartman got another kill though, Couldn't resist at £35 :D The Grumpy Spit from same was also £35, nearly succumbed, but not happy with fuselage roundel on that. Got there at 1030, £5 to get in now?? Thought it was £3.50 before?
Anyway, couple got away when I was walking round thinking about them, RCAF C130 £6 and Blue angels F4 (No1) £5, all 3 C-97`s going for £5 each. RAE Brit £10, B52`s various except Gulf one going for £10. RAE Tornado £8 :) Pathfinder set was £55, S for Sugar £60 and the grand slam one in a tatty boxes £62 and the Easter egg £122. RAF SAR sea king £75  and both the navy seakings, SAR and Falklands £29 each. Sabres £25, RAE Bucc £30.
F4`s Bunny and Drone £9. As stated B17`s where still £55-75, B24`s where from £18 to most at £30. No 1/32 mossies to be seen?? And Chink 69 and the orange and white Chinook also lacking this time.1/32 stuff with crew figures where £36-38, jumpin Jacques £25. Lots of star jet airliners at £5 ( was told these used to be dist by corgi, but they had a falling out with star jets and this was the last of them at this price.) CDC 1/48 F16 £16 and F15`s £25.
So all in all not a bad show, not the best, nice to see some of the older stuff appearing again C-97`s , phantoms and sea kings etc and my favourite buy for today.... 1Sqn set for £40 :D
Hope this is of interest

Yes......although one or two on ebay at the moment, not been many for a while. None at Harrogate t/f a couple of weeks back. One dealer told me that they were a "sell out", but as a stock item more are expected to be released soon....so don't go paying silly money.....

Rushed round NEC today as I promised to be back early :( .
Was in one of the slightly smaller halls this time. One or two less Aviation sellers this time I think.
Usual suspects had less stuff but what they had was cheaper than ever. Clearing out the last of what they have maybe?
e.g
1:32 Mossies seem to be re-appearing again (from £31 I think)
1:32 Hartman £22.99  (got a 'spare' as i couldn't stand seeing it at this price :o )
1:32 Barkhorn £25
1:32 Grumps £29
1:72 bombers... not my thing....CHEAP
Pathfinder set £50 (again not really my thing so don't know if this is good or not)
Leg-end fighters for £3.99
Suez set £17.99
Intended to get 1:32 109G red 6 and picked it up for £17.50 :) Appart from this ended up getting a few dragon warbirds etc to justify the trip.

Only 4 or 5 dealers with any amount of aviation stuff.
Lancs very scarce,0nly 1 dambusters for £70 and one Grand Slam in a tatty box for £68.
B-24 Jerks was £23.95, 1/32 PR Mossie £32, The MkIV Mossie £35(shame no Monktons), 1/32 Me109 red6 £17.50, Hartmann £22.95:eek:
P-47 nose art £12, B-17 CC £45, Black Spit £25, Corgi FW double Chev. £25,
1/32 Hurris £67, Blue Angels Phantom £8, Tiger Tornado £8
Bargain legends included Rozzie Geth P-47 £3.99, Phantom £6.50
Only 1 Duke P-40 for £13, nearly bought it but put off by white lines on all the decals.
Had a look at the 1/32 Hurri, and IMPO the nose is ok. Didn't like the shiny roundals contrasting against the matt paint though, or the washing line aerial.
Will get one when it comes down to £30;)
Dragon Mustangs, only saw 3,and 2 of them had the wrong props for my purposes. FWs were £15-17 as were P-47s.Clipped wing desert spit was as I thought, carp, upperwing roundal still in wrong place.
Came away with Dragon Me262 Bar,Hoffer P-47 and a Mustang.

Totally agree ( see my post on the Valiant thread ) , 1:32 scale reminds me of when a manager buys an expensive player who just cannot seem to turn it on for the new team . Striker knows it , other players know it , supporters know it and even the manager knows it but HAS to keep playing him hoping against hope it goes right . Same with this , Corgi have wasted so much dosh on developing a range I really cannot remember anyone asking for they have to keep going even though 1:32 scale is a proven disaster .
shuttle
26th February 2006, 14:41
I don't agree that the 1/32 scale range is not viable. Most plastic kit manufacturers mange to have a 'core' range (normally 1/72 or 1/48 scale) and then a premium range. Think of Airfix and their 1/24 scale range or Revell and their 1/32 scale aircraft. As usual with Corgi, it is their execution of the strategy which as let them down. Even though I love the Mosquito I would have thought that a Fw-190 or a Hawk might have been a better choice i.e, keep them small and maybe do jets. Small, popular fighters was the way to go not large beasts that take up a lot of space!!

26th February 2006, 14:47
Have to agree also Shuttle. The 1/32nd range is excellent. A couple of nice FW's and a couple of Hurricanes would have been good, but as usual and in usual Corgi stlye they have over released, over produced, over valued and flogged it to death and that is why is have faultered. No othe reason really. :)
Martin Bull
26th February 2006, 14:48
Shuttle, I'll have to agree to disagree on this one. I think it boils down ultimately to a question of available space. Even a nutcase like me has had to hesitate over many of the 1/32s because space in my house is finite, whereas I can always find a feeble excuse to squeeze another 1/72 in....
I just think that if Corgi really can't shift something like the Barkhorn 109 unless it gets down to £25/£30 ( and believe me, even with arguments over has it/hasn't it got overspray on the engine cowling it is an exemplary diecast ) then I just don't see a future for 1/32.
Hey - I hope I'm wrong...no-one would be more delighted than me to have a Maximowitx Fw190 in 1/32 scale !

Shuttle, I'll have to agree to disagree on this one.
I would also have to agree to disagree ( though in slight agreement with CFBC in that they started the range with same old same old strategy , even the schemes ) but not only is the range not necessarily even well made , in the context of it being a premium product but it is the affect it has has on ( a ) Corgi's image in general , these things cause a real storage headache and HAVE to be dumped as soon as , so we end up with yet another product that is given all the hype only to be 60-80 % cheaper often within weeks and even if Corgi do not wish to see it , IT HAS A KNOCK ON ISSUE across the ranges ( as Mercedes found out when they lost more money on S-Series sales than they made on A-Class ones when they brought that out )
( b ) taking into account time issues , it is possible to look back and see that when time , effort and money was obviously being spent on new 1:32 moulds this coincided with a downturn in new 1:72 ( and to a degree civil 1:144 ) moulds . THis allowed Corgi's competitors to regain ground that the hound had won with the conception of the military side of AA to begin with . I do not remember having many conversations with people about 2- 3 years ago about " Lets hope Corgi bring out a 1:32 range , wouldn't it be great " but do remember " Lets hope they soon bring out a Typhoon , Me110 , JU88 , Beaufighter etc . " All which could / would have been with us now , and for some time , if the money spent on 1:32 moulds had been directed to 1:72 . Lastly Corgi relied at these times to squeeze more out of the moulds already in use , leading to BOREDOM on the part of most and a general downturn in interest , that the introduction of the 1:32 failed to reverse .
I buy the range when prices are right but still feel Corgi lack proper managerial direction and must try and concentrate on what is best for the AA brand as a whole for the future .

Got back from Brum about an hour ago. Almost got a 1/32 Mosquito at £32 but I had to ask myself if I really had space for one, the answere was no (and my partner would have killed me dead on the spot if she'd seen me come home with something that big and would never have believed how cheap it was), but a good price me thinks. I was hoping to find a Grand Slam Lanc and would have paid real money for one, but no one had one that I saw. There are two in TMC in Nottingham at list price and it's looking ever more likely I'll end up getting one here unless the "bay" comes up trumps. Got a Costal Command B-17 and B-24 at £45 each but I have seen both for £35 in the past, oh well. Donington I think next week:)

As already reported was very low key on the "Dumped” AA, maybe this the new plan, to get us to spend more wonga on full price releases, problem being I think a lot of us, only buy the dumped stuff because it is cheap, so like others I came home with cash in my pocket today (Got to be a first!) But on a plus side I got 1/32 Night attack Mossie for £34 ;) will go nicely with my PR one , which the better half paid full RRP for xmas 2004, she was horrified to see them going for £31 today, and insisted that I got the night attack one today :D The only other purchase today was 2 x AC-130H at £6 each  which would have been a crime not too. So the new policy from Corgi won’t work for me, as if it something that I want I will pay near RRp for it, but if it has no cert and isn’t that cheap then I won’t be buying much, so the stuff which isn’t selling is going to cost the hound a lot in storage ! And how do they stand a chance when the "Jerks Natural" B24 (ltd to 1700) was going for £23 today

In the interests of forum research;) , spent a couple of hours at the NEC.Wished I hadn't bothered at first, aviation stuff very thin on the ground.
Then I found an oasis in the form of Gary's models, which saved the day.
From Gary I bought all 3 Geminis for £45, a Hobbymaster Midway Dauntless for £12 and a spare Mcknight Hurri for a tenner, which was marked as a de-cert but has the number on the stand.
He also threw in a free catalogue.Gary's a forum member (Gary Ford) so PM him, he's got some good deals.
Also had a Brothers warbird Hurri for £8.The finish of the model and box on this is excellent, and they're using the right colour,Sky again, instead of the 'orrible sky blue shade they used on the legends Bader and Lane. These warbirds are really showing the AA prices for what they are, total rip off:mad: .
Had a good look at the RAF Cat, priced £60 and I was very tempted, great model. You're gonna have to display it in flight though as this one isn't the amphibian with a nose wheel.
Some other prices....
Both Swordfish £30
Gladiators £25...no first issue to be had though
S/S Lanc £58
Bader 1/32 Hurri £48
De-cert 1/32 Hurris
Sea Hurri £35
Lewis £40
Nicolson £30
Silver Old Crow £30
Green Old Crow with cert £30
Spit MkVIII shark de cert £10
Didn't think de-certs would bother me, but would have got the Silver Old Crow and Spit VIII if they were not de-certs.
Dragons, only Geoff Noble had any and they were all full price,4 engine jobs almost non-existant, 1 Grand Slam Lanc £58, 1 Lib £28. Only 1 B-25 on sale.
The legends were also scarse,Duke P-40s £5, and a few jets, Canberra £18
What I should have bought, a superb 2nd hand display unit,5ft by 4ft, 9 inch deep, with 9 quarter inch toughened glass shelves, and sliding glass doors.None of yer chipboard carp here, solid wood and for £145.Bloke lived near me so could have picked it up, but didnt have me credit card with me, then saw someone else buying it:(

Good post Prune, don't think there is much I can add to that.
As you say good job Gary's Models showed up and as usual he had good stuff at v. good prices. Kicking myself for buying all three GA's on friday for £18 each though! In spite of this he had enough stuff that I wanted to get my free catalogue :D
Bought a few Dragons from Geoff Noble (bit knocked off but more or less MRRP)
Only purchase from the Browns brothers was a witty zero (£2....sorry AC :D ) Even he seemed surprised it was so cheap so may have been marked up wrong? Also has some witty jets for £5, looked good but don't collect modern jets and wasn't about to start just because they were cheap.
Found a stall with a solitary (mint, certed) Stuka (latest) for £15 which I was pleased to find.
Your right about the de-certed models. Ones you would probably have bought certed suddenly look less attractive. For example I think £35-£40 is too much for a de-cert 1:32 hurri (as Agent X20 has pointed out they get them for this much MRRP in the USA!) I will pay £35-£40 for a certed example and £25-£30 de-cert otherwise I won't bother (they are not even THAT good from what I have seen and what I have read on the forum)

Also forgot to mention that any collectors of 1:48 franklin mint/armour warbirds would have got some real bargains! Saw three traders selling variouse aircraft for £10-£15 each. Tempted by the swiss 109 but decided I have my hands full already (and loft!) with 1:72.
..............also a AA35304 North American B-25J Mitchell II for £26 or £28 (can't remember) It was certed and seemed like a good price but I don't collect these so don't know?
Also a AA34902 Messerschmitt Bf109G Italy - The Battle for Monte Cassino and beyond (1:32) mint/mint box for £20. Very nice model and a bargain at this price! Iwould have bought it but have one already and my loft isn't as vast as DC's..........

Hartman 1:32 109's now down to £16.50  (box mint, number on stand)
Sensible side of me thought 'leave it you have 2 already'! Then the 'David Cotton voice in my head' told me to 'buy the lot'! In the end I bought one (another spare! )
Pleased to find a weathered CHC ME109 on blueskies table for £20. Bought the grey one when released but didn't fancy stumping up £60 for this one. No cert but box not punched or stickered and very happy to have aquired one at a reasonable price.

NEC was poor,if Gary hadn't been there wouldn't have been worth going. The 1/32s were scarse,a few Park and Nicolson Hurris, only the Black 8 109 and Stinger P-51s. Geoff Noble had a Lane and a PR-F Spitfire for £65 Each. All his Dragons were full price. No 4 engine bombers at all.
.
Agree, i spent quite a bit but nearly all pre-order stuff from Gary which i could have had sent far cheaper than going to the NEC
Ended up nearly buying a radio controlled miniture helicopter from Gary due to the lack of diecast  Looked quite good but realistically a 5 minute wonder which would no doubt have ended up in the hands of one of my kids............:(
A couple of those mossie/P51 sets for £15 each on a table not really dealing with aviation. Good buy for someone and they soon went but of no interest to me.
Bought one of those bare metal (polished) Hunters in a black presentation box for my Dad. Don't know what he will make of it but i know he loves the aircraft (used to fly them)..........and it was only £4.50 :D
Got that 1:32 109 you gave me the 'heads up on' prune, great model thanks for that. Also bought the latest Gemini Aces..........very nice!

They were very, very good! Quite limited numbers too I seem to remember?
Bought a predator Avenger a while ago (Bush) and quite like it. Very 'clean' looking especially the underside but displays well next to the Corgi's. Got that desert 109 as well today and it is on display now....looks good :D

Went NEC today. As usual a bit quiet for the "summer" one, some traders missing. But not a great deal of aviation stuff. Spotted one small stand with a couple of Corgi Aces: Tuck Hurri, P51, and a EELightning at circa £30.
Also elsewhere, a Tuck Hurricane Boxed, dusty, no cert at a tenner. The Black USAF Canberra at £8.00 sl. scruffy box. Nearly went for the later USCG Hercules at £18, but can't be bothered any more.
Still loads of the CHC ME109's at £6.50!
So bought a few Skymarks 1/200 airliners instead. I think it was 12 for under 50 quid. Same thing on sale in the BHX airport shop at £20-£30 each!
And an Inflight 200 Singapore Cargo B707....cheaper than it was at Huntingdon..;)

Other stuff noted, Century Cats on MR B`s dump stall, PRF spit for £35 and £50, Vamp for £35:p and strangley Park hurri`s had gone back up to the £35-£40 mark:confused:
So all in all not a bad day, must say HM are leaving the Hound high and dry, the lot I picked up today are very nice, ie the Avenger for £18, lots of metal and weapon options for your money, or do I get a £35 Vamp?? No brainer really:LOL:

True up to a point but on the other hand as long as the certs don't get lost there are plenty of models (mint with mint box) to replace any damaged/non mint ones.
I bought two of the £6.50 109's when they were released at £24.99 each plus P&P  Can't complain about that (swings and roundabouts) but annoying when my original 2 were 'less minty' than these cheap ones :( . Almost like the best ones were being saved till last

A lot of older secondhand Corgi AA's appearing Yellow and Culdrose Seakings at 65 and 55 in tatty boxes. another had the second (losi) FW190 at £18 and various aces at about 30. Dumpsters had zilch.

Went to the NEC today and thought there was a good amount of aviation items dotted about (esp compared to the last meeting IMHO).
As a new member it was also nice for me to meet and chat to both Spock and Gary Ford.
I was able to fill a gap in my heli collection with a Falklands Chinook from Mr Spock - it looks really good - one of Corgis better efforts in this field in my view. And from Mr Ford the new HM A-10 'Bentwaters' - a great looking model and I haven't got it out the box yet!
Around the hall there were some bargains to be had with, as Aviaction says, some older Corgi and reduced recent stuff. The 1:200 airliners referred to previously were Star Jets - £2 each and the same seller having Gemini P51a and Spits at £7.

A smattering of the usual suspect purveyors of aviation models. Not much dumpster wise, so no real bargains to be had.
Corgi RAF VC10 much in evidence and apparently selling well. Why!!??? Maybe I need to redirect the purchasers towards my emporium, coz I think they must be in need of vision correction of some sort -laugh-
Bargain of the day would have been the massive King-Tiger in the ammo-box crate at £125. but combination of low funds, lack of room and the prospect of carrying a flamin' heavy box back to the car didn't appeal.
So came away happy to get teh Aeroclassic BAC111 set, and one of the older Corgi Huey Hogs I'd been on the look out for.
Interesting at Coventry Airport on the way back was a landing Beech 18? in Camo top/blue undersides and SEAC markings.

No to Huntingdon... and yes to a 'not publiscised NEC show'......
Saw Gary Ford and Geoff Noble today.. a different event... as there was a photo exibition on at the NEC as well...
Lack of Corgi stuff just means that there is more shee-ite diecast than ever before being dumped although some of the Altaya (as against IXO) models Geoff has were lovely.. desert 110 and Mossie ( not SB-V.. but NE-.?) let alone the He162.... were very nice for the £15 he wanted. In fact there was very little present stuff about at all... so sorry Kev, theres a ferkin great pile thats going to rain down on us soon when the g'tees run out.
Gary with his Panther and other Hobby Master stuff, but not as many pre-pros as before.. nice to see them maturing....
Bargains ... not a lot.. Post War AA Typhoons at a tenner. SNS He 111.. £24.50 if you could find a good box.. £45 SNS Dambuster Lancs but boxes tatty and guns all 'pushed in' so beware.. the odd £15 Jag and training Hawk (£10) were about..... the toyfair punters have found other stuff to sell...
So all in all a 'nice' fair.. large and some nice guys to talk to...(if you were into trains) a Dalek and Catwoman......
Agent being Agent accosted some poor sod... (with rather scrumptious young lady) who was haggling for a 23 Sqn Lightning... (was just about to advise... have you had a look - you do know its chrome..) when said gentleman  replied.. my card.... !!.... (a very small bit of card. but a card.. for a moment I thought it would be pistols at dawn.....) Plane Crazy.... it was really nice to meet the forummeister after all these years and in a very very packed hall the chances of that.. :D
Chris... she is positively mad and if she comes to her senses she will no doubt be on the next boat to Timbuctoo or Baldock International...(ding dong) ., but many congratulations on your engagement and if you could just refrain from all that lovey dovey stuff and get down to the next commission were were discussing that would be a bonus... (Olympic Games Lightning.. I like it.. everlasting afterburner.. )
The photoshow afterwards... well that was just 100% drool..... the money you can spend on Photography...... In my dreams I came out about £25K lighter.... in reality a couple of pints at the bar....
A nice day... and thanks to my chauffeur for the Northampton - B'Ham bit......... and the best til last..... Mrs Agent wasnt home when I drove in... so instant diecast insertion into loft..  .. result..!!

Looked at the weather and thought a trip to the NEC with my son might be in order.
Spent most of the time being told 'no more airplanes daddy!! we need to buy me some trains now!!' and having my arm pulled, getting me away from all the good stuff! :(
Got my first (and probably only) 1:72 bomber (JU88) seemed rude not to at £17.50.
Warbirds dumping at 3 for £10 (nothing new there) and preds down to £5 a bit later in the day.
Got a few of each although don't really know why. Don't think my brain was working after looking at/buying all those toy trains!
Picked up a 'kent spit' from mr S which to be honest was the only model i bought which was actually on my 'wish list' rather than cause it was cheap! Pleased to get that one! :)

That'll be the yellow one then? I managed to pick up a Lister Ju 88 for £20,

Other bargains seen, Sinner 262s for £8,S&S He111 £35,Johnny Johnson set £20 but not a lot else.

Were there many traders selling AA suff there?
Craig
1st March 2009, 21:25
I doubt we'll see much. I think the emphasis will be more on if it's not going to sell it won't get produced, combined with more sensible run numbers and more desirable subject. I wouldn't personally rule out the A-10 dumping, too much old management input into it, but I certainly wouldn't forsee any of the current stock dumping unless there's been howlers made, which shouldn't be happening. Things are changing at Corgi I think, but don't think the change will be overnight. The main difference at present however is discounting used to be a dead cert, if you waited with very few exceptions you WOULD get it half price in a few months. Now I think if you're waiting for a dumped Sea King or even Lightning you may end up being in for a long wait. Once people start to be less confident of supply whenever, I'm sure pre-orders will improve :)

Things may be changing at Corgi Hornby etc.. but at the end of the day these chappies are the UK masters of mass produced diecast... therefore small runs and esoteric types will not be on their radar... their overheads with catalogues... headcount etc etc.. will be far higher than the likes of Capt Tiger and his merry men... so the fact is you gotta at least produce a few... we shall see... Well knowing that Aviation Archive is the most successful of the Corgi ranges, I feel it's a little early to be writing them off within 2 years. The industry standard for a run of an Aviation model is now somewhere between 1000 and 2000 pieces worldwide. Why do you think that Corgi can't live with that? oh wait, they have been producing those amounts, and in a return to a market decimated by clearance, they have done pretty well to achieve quite a few sell outs in the Aviation range.
Comparing them to Tiger Hobbies is daft, Gary is an importer and distributor of a generally niche market product, he publishes his imported pieces figure to illustrate that point. Corgi also have a worldwide market to get back into, after losing more than a few export customers in the last three years.
Perhaps the best indicator to the state and future of the market is to look back over the previous three years before Hornby purchased Corgi. Who stepped up to be a serious contender to Corgi when anyone with an ounce of sense knew they were failing financially?
The best chance since Matchbox imploded into a mail order company to grab the UK diecast market, which Corgi did so successfully in the mid nineties, and grew from there. Who was prepared to stick in just a few million quid to grab that title while Corgi were on the floor?
The answer of course is, no-one stepped up, a few companies had a little prod at certain parts of the Corgi ranges, but all stayed small, and specialised, and no one was prepared to invest, or find the investment for such an assault for the crown. This included the likes of Minichamps, Mattel, Unimax, AutoArt, and even Revell who have always had diecast aspirations (the bloke who mentions diverse images - just don't:D )
That shows the strength of the brand, and now in the more cautious hands of Hornby, I don't see any reason why it won't grow.

I just need some more information before I strain my intellect and answer your post fully and frankly.
1) What’s the one simple step? - You didn't mention it.
2) Why 3 months instead of 2 years? - Is this a wild poke in the dark? I'm also not sure that agent is a "Sub-mariner", I think he's a Titan, he talks like when you blow air through a straw into a glass of water. (Stingray - you'd be a bit young for that )
3) In "the land that is retail" most are finding that there is a great resilience in collectable and hobby products, it was much the same during the last recession. Have you contrary evidence (apart from reading the Sun)
4) I will also be surprised if you are gainfully employed.
And "Starbucks coz they is gonna be ferked as well"

Hornby/Corgi do the lot and supply the worldwide market, have final say over the whole range, prices, dropping lines, extra lines.
Chalk - Cheese.
Compare Corgi to - no-one - There is now one major UK company that owns the top brands in Railways, Kits and Diecast, there is no one to compare them to. The old Palitoy of the eighties would be the nearest in memory, who incidentally took on the American way of selling hobby products before they failed, just like the last Corgi regime.

I agree and most of it is just ( perhaps too much ) a reaction to the fact that over the last 18 months ( despite every bit of evidence ) you have not been able to comment on ( certain ) product . It was actually as if Corgi were the only manufacturer allowed to be knocked at one stage . I personally decided to end posting on these threads , what purchased etc. a little while back ( as someone with far more knowledge was answering the issues very well , except the manner of the posts ) and let market forces and after market prices speak for themselves ( obviously I have acquired all the necessary data ) , because the reaction was always the same and always from the same quarters . So today is not really the problem ( in a way ) it is what was not stopped 12 months ago by a very vocal yet very small minority . :) Hindsight it still a great thing .
Back on thread , stopped going ( except to one or two for charity etc . ) about 18 months ago . You think people talk their own book on here and spread rumour , it all starts at yer toy fair .

Speaking personally, I freely admit to a pro-Corgi bias because that is reflected in my collection. Having said that, it's still the model that is important to me, eg ; -
Corgi Ju52 - fantastic model :)
Corgi Schall 262 - too similar to other releases + no Swastika = no purchase.:(
FOV B-26 Marauder - despite a personal loathing of other FOV aircraft, this has been the biggest surprise of 2009 for me and I have highlighted that on another thread.....
...and so on.....
I've enjoyed my collecting so far this year - and 12/18 months ago I wondered if any manufacturer would have survived until now.
And I really do sympathize with the retailers.....:(

Once again I totally agree with this post and would suggest very few of us would have to admit to any bias , it is very obvious from posts etc . :)

re the NEC Toy Fair........
Its local (ish) but I didn't go. Last time it was £5.50 to get in - propbably gone up again - but its getting just a tad expensive I think.
Donny was ony £3 - but I believe its the last one coming up.

Unfortunately it is the last Donni fair coming up,as the building is getting demolished and fairs will still be held in the new one.

To us Northen folk Donny will always be Doncaster and as stated the Donny venue was re-built 18 months ago. I think the poster is talking about Donnington, which he is correct the next one in Apr is the last one for a while until they develope the track for F1.
To all Southen folk Donny is Doncaster not Donnington
themostdangerousenemy if you are Southen I will forgive you, if you are from the North you should be hanging your head in shame and moving to the south.

Cor Blimey! and theres me under the impression that anything north of Castle Donington was uninhabited wilderness, of mountains, forest and the occasional neanderthal....
You mean there is civilisation in the North?

In the Midlands, which is where Castle Donnington is, it is known as Donny around here. :)
As in 'Are you going to Donny to watch the bike racing?' Unless over night the tracks been moved :(

Any more info CFBC, just wondered who still goes (of interest to us lot)? Were Gary, Steve and Geoff there plus the two major 'dumpsters' (for lack of a better description :o )

Those vulcans was a bargain, but not as cheap as the next guy who purchased them for £8 a go, along with C130's and some Connies.
I sent my sister and told her to sell at up to half marked prices, i didnt even know Corgi models had a value as 10 years ago they was next to impossible to get rid of unless you gave them stupid low prices.
So are there any Corgis from 10 years ago i should consider selling at a better value in the future? not looking for top wack, just fair price for all.
Got plenty more Vulcans and the likes, but selling them off to pay for my student fees and start up a business so getting a balance between giving good value and getting a fair price is needed.
Got loads and CDC and Gemini Jets too, but these seem to get zero interest too.
With regards to the dumpsters, are they getting rid of anything interesting these days, they was selling them at half the price you could get them from corgi as a trader 10 years ago, and see they still do it, if only one knew where they got the stock hey.
Also someone said is there anyone of interest there, whats of interest to the general forum.
Do people only buy from dumpsters, or do they pay closer to rrp for some releases?
Loads of questions so sorry, and look at completeing my Herpa collection now prices seem to be 10 times less on my missing models.
is there anyone of interest there, .
Hi herpamad, i think that's the question I asked.
I used to go to the NEC on a regular basis and got used to seeing certain retailers (forum members) who had plenty of diecast aviation stock. I was trying to establish if they still go and therefore if it's worth going to the next NEC? :)
