Just want to see what my fellow forum friends think I should do go with the artist proof or just go with the print? With my story about my photo of Wg Cdr Kit North Lewis personal crashed landed Typhoon I was trying to decide wheather to go with the A/P or just the print? The print steal has Kit North Lewis`s signature, one side of me says go with the print and use the $125.00 I would save buy going with the print to use for matteing, frameing RAF Wings and medals that I need to aquire yet or is the A/P going to be worth it because it will appreciate with the story behind it?
Here is what I was going to do with the prints. I was going to put RAF Wings at the bottom of each print and nothing else didn`t want to clutter the prints up and take away from them. On a third frameing I was going to put my personal letter that I received from Wg Cdr Kit North Lewis in there along with the photo he signed for me and the story sheets behind the photo. Then I was going to add a DSO and a DFC and Bar and some sqn insignia patches if they are avaliable??
So here is where I could use some help. Where can I get quality full sized repro`s of RAF Wings and the DSOGVI issue and a DFCGVI issue and Bar medals at? and are there any sqn insignia patches avaliable also? Kit North lewis was Wg Cdr of OC 124 Wing (137,181,182,247sqns) the day he was shot down he led eight Typhoons of 137 sqn.
So I am open for suggestions opinions and any help on this subject.

Tiffie, try here for the wings, you can get some genuine WW2 RAF flat (not padded) pilots wings for £8.95, I've got some framed in one of my prints.www.nicholasmorigi.com
As for Artists proofs, I personally wouldn't bother if the standard print is still available, the only difference is the price and the number.

now wouldnt that look great on the front of your Aviation Archive Typhoon release! :D
Tiffie, you could frame the print and the wings then do the rest on a mount in the same style of frame? which ever you do sounds fantastic

Correct, most framers dont even know how to do it properly. I give them the frame and mount dimensions, wont trust em with the print, then put the print in meself. No tape though, and acid free board between print and backboard. Make sure the mountboard is acid free, most framers only use that now but some may not to cut costs.

Anyone seen the new Taylor "Savage Skies" print..... looks good to me. Not sure if FW190's would attack with drop tanks still in place tho. :)

yep... would have thought, like his mates, he would have dived under the B24 rather than fly over the top.. exposing that fuel tank to at least 4 0.5's.. if they had seen him and been tracking him.... dont forget the closing speed would be 600/700 mph..

How about permanet marker? wonder if it will fade with the use of UV glass? Kit signed my photos with some kind of permanet marker pen.

Stopped by a local frame shop to see how they did things there. They only use special acid free mounts for the print no tape, acid free board and the backboard is acid free also and ther matteing is acid free. So from the looks of things they do pretty darn good work. I was going to have Aces High Gallery do all the matteing for the print but I cant just go look at it and see if I like it or not because there out in California and the UK and I just dont want to have something done without seeing it first.

Still do not witch way to go here Guys  talked to some people at the different aviation gallerys and they kindy steer me towards the print instead of the A/P  .
May be I better take Agent X20`S advice and go with the A/P.
Many Thanks! Guys for the suggestions ,comments and the website info.

I finally got my Typhoons over the Rhine print and it is now framed and finished had to go with the print instead of the A/P very expensive as it is. I went with 3 mattes a light brown fabric on top dark brown in the middle and black on the bottom with RAF wings in the middle. Went with a frame with black trim arround the outside edge a 1/2 inch to a inch light aged goldish metal look and 2 inches of wallnut wood in the middle and then 3/4 inch aged goldish metal again with U/V glass very very nice and sets the print off. All the mounting materials where acid free also, I will half to post some pic`s.
Many thanks to "Prune" for the RAF wing site to get good quality unpadded wings they look great and they came from the UK top notch.;) And thanks to you all on this thread for your knowledge and experiences with frameing to make this a succes.:D
Cheers,

You know MB you half to be on your toes at all times with CFBC arround.;) I must say it made me laugh.:D
Anyhow back to the print as soon as I get some pictures of the frameing I will be sure to share them with you guys. I still need to get a digitial camera scanning conventional pic`s into the PC is a pain in the ass but know fear my parents have one so I will just borrow theres for some quick pic`s. Well the Typhoon over the Rhine print is done but now my companion print Typhoon Country needs matted and framed. My framer suggested that I go with the same color mattes and frame for this print but when I looked at it with the same samples as the big print I am kind of undicided because of the border colors on the smaller print being white:confused: the larger print was more like a very light tan. Some input on this would be much appreciated guys.

Is the second print by Trudgian as well...? Are they matching edition numbers.. If so, then they are a set and it will most probably be best to have matching surrounds... IMHO..

The second print is by Trudgian and I took a look see to check for the edition number and they are matching 361/500. Thanks for pointing that out to me Agent X20 that makes it an easy decision then.;) I`ll keep everything matching on the Typhoon Country print, its just that white border that gets me compared to the main print but what do I know I am just a greenhorn at this frameing thing.
How many prints are at the Agent X20 residents..? Had to ask.
Many Thanks,

At the end of the day though, put the prints in the border that you ( or Mrs TKNL..?.) like best... you have to live with them for the next xxx years...
How many prints.... I wouldnt like to think... Most are now stored away in the loft.. when Mrs Agent arranged for the redecoration, the 3/4 prints in every room never re-emerged....:( ...I must sort them out sometime.. and yes somewhere there is Coulsons Typhoons taking off......:D

I will look at the mattes again against this print when I get it done. My framer said the mattes that I used in the main print will look fine in the companion will see.
You need to get those prints out and dust them off Agent X20 no place for art work they should be hanging on the walls. Tell Mrs Agent that she needs to take some of her prints down and put them in the loft.:D How about your own room for your diecast collection and your prints that would be nice. The Coulsons Typhoons taking off print is nice especially with the Rolland Beamonts signature.

All,
Not sure if any of you woul dbe interested in this e-mail I have just received, but it reads:
"My cousin is married to Kit North-Lewis. He is not well, and I believe is 92, or approaching his 92nd birthday. I would not like you to lose access to his information that he has been compiling regarding his squadren and its story in World War II. If you are not in touch with him and his family already, you may contact me if you wish and I will do what I can. To me he is a very special person."
I have kindly replied to the person who has e-mailed me via the forum asking for any such information so I can share it with eveyone here, but wanted to let you all know about the above.
I was not sure where to post this, but thought this might be the most appropriate thread for now.
I hope the person who contacted me is kind enough to reply and if they do I will post some details. What a very nice offer. :)

Blimey lets just get him a message about how much we all think he is
and at 92 it is probably normal to feel a bit iffy now and then . Hope he feels much better soon , if I had had half his courage and composure in combat .

Thanks for posting CFBC, what better place to honor Air Commodore C.D. North-Lewis and share his stories. I have always worried about hearing news like this an I sure hope & pray "Kit" gets well for himself and his family.:( Things where looking good to make a trip over to the UK this year I really want to meet him. I have talked to "Kit" twice on the phone and what a honor to do so the last in Nov, 2006 when I sent him copies of a diary from a 247sqn groundcrewman on the start of Operation Varsity and my many thanks to the forum friend for sharing that with me and giving me permission to send them to "Kit". Only thing is his age Kit North Lewis should be 89 not 92, in time I will share my letter form "Kit" with you my forum friends and post my uncles picture of K N-L RB208.
