Sad and tragic breaking news this morning:-

Two RAF crew have been killed after their aircraft crashed on a runway at an airfield in Norfolk.

The Canberra training jet, with three people on board, came down during a routine training exercise at RAF Marham last night.

One of the crew managed to eject from the plane before impact and was taken to a Nottingham hospital with severe back injuries.

A MoD spokesman said the jet was involved in a "touch and go" exercise, in which the crew practice taking off and landing.

No details of the deceased are being released until next of kin have been told, he added.

RAF Marham is one of the busiest front-line stations in Britain, and boasts the largest single collection of offensive capability in the RAF.

It is frequently used for the arrival and departure of Royal aircraft, due to the close proximity of the Sandringham estate.

The Queen was appointed as Honorary Air Commodore to RAF Marham in 1977 and has officially visited the station once every two years since her appointment.

The Canberra PR9 is a specialist high altitude RAF reconnaissance aircraft developed from a medium bomber designed in the 1940s.

Earlier this year the crew of a fighter jet based at RAF Marham managed to eject to safety moments before their plane crashed into the sea.

Sad news. Reminds me of an article from the 80s were one crashed on landing and only one managed to eject.

Very sad to hear of Marham crash.
Canberra's crashes previously were commonly caused by single engine failure on take-off/landing. Due to mid wing position of engines away from the fuselage, the rotational forces are known to be very difficult to control, resulting in 'spinning' into ground. However will have to wait for preliminary report.
Tis a very sad day.
