Hello
I have the desire to take to the cyber skys and fight the foes of England.... but not sure where to start.

I want a simulator that is not to difficulte to get started on. That means I want to be gunning Huns out of the sky within 30 mins...... not still trying to take off.

I would like the game to have on line multiplayer...... but whant to be sure that I am not the only one in that piece of cyber sky.

Can anyone recommend a simulator for me :)

Combat Flight Sim 3 not a bad bet. Not as good as IL2 however easy to fly. Not sure if it is online playable.

Simulator - Microsoft Flight Sim

Shoot em up ( with four engined bombers etc... Il2 or Forgotten Battles (FB was the next IL2 title to come out) IL2 I last saw in Tescos at £3.47...

Combat Flight Sim IMHO is carp.... IL2, I just like watching the plames flying..

You do need a fairly good machine for it to run but it can be as simple ( invincible) or a complicated.. (cough and the engines overheated, you have blacked out and are in a terminal spin) as you want to make it..

IL2.. you are fighting the foes of Germany / Russia..

Hi d/c,

As a straight out of the box to computer game with good flying action i think Microsofts Combat Flight Simulator 1 is hard to beat.

Admit there are a lot better ie, IL2, IL2 Forgotten Battles, Pacific Fighters etc but CFS1 loads straight to your PC and you are up and away.

Settings like most can be set for varying degrees of difficulty but take off's and actual flying to your targets is quite east without being a pain to master.

Lots of different missions and aircraft you can fly for either the Luftwaffe, RAF or USAAF. You can also work your way up the ranks with each mission you fly with promotions and combat medals and awards.

One mission i quite like while flying for the Luftwaffe is entitled "Boxcars" ? which entails flying through droves of B-17's and B-24's protecting the Fatherland.

Also i have seen this game as cheap as £6.99 while in Asda, though this was quite a while ago, but it should still be readily available.

Give it a go. I promise you wont be dissapointed if this is your first flight sim

You beat me to it Agent, though i wouldn't say CFS1 was "carp"

Like i said in my above post though i have to agree with you that IL-2 etc are better but there are less conflicting issues on your PC with CFS1 as there is with IL-2, especially if our computer spec 'aint up to it :)

Also all the updates for IL2 which are needed to be downloaded as soon as you have loaded the game to your computer just to get it flying right can be a bit daunting to new users :confused

As a straight out the box game CFS1 is pretty good :D

DC, you could try The History Channel Battle of Britain by Activision, which is not too involved but quite entertaining. I picked this up last year in Game in their 3 for £20 deal.

CFS1 won't run in XP will it? CFS2 still ain't bad and come with a mission editor, but like many here I'd recommend IL-2 Forgotten Battles. With the Aces Expansion Pack (AEP) and Pacific Fighters it's hard to pull yourself away from!

As Agent X20 rightly said you can make IL2 as easy or hard as you wish.

Hello
I have tried IL2 once before, I found it a bit distant... every thing seemed a long way away.

I now have an XP machine 2,8Ghz and 1Mb of ram.

Many years ago I had the old Amega and played "their Finest Hour". It was a real simple flight sim, but It had something...it really did.

Are there any good Battle Of Britain sims.... I think that is the arena I want to fight in. Swotting down the filthy Hun over Blighty :)

Again i would say CFS1 as this has plenty of missions to fly with the RAF knocking down "Huns" :D

Also this game will run ok on Windows XP as my old PC was equipped with XP Pro and i had no problems :)

Yeah, CFBC is right.

If i remember correctly, i think i saw them in PC World for a while in the Platinum series (no literature just the disc in dvd type box, though instructions are all on the disc i think) for around the £8 mark so shop around before buying. You know, like ya do with ya Corgi's

Bye the way, i don't work for M/soft :D

If you want the Battle of Britain you'll want Battle of Britain II Wings of Victory by Shockwave Productions. See here for more details (http://www.shockwaveproductions.com/bob/)

There is also a new Battle of Britain sim coming shortly from the creator of the IL-2 series.

I have been playing F2004 for a while. A good game and I have downloaded some extra aircraft from AlphaSim. The TSR.2 and Lightning are awesome!

I have also downloaded the Osprey, B-58, Jaguar, Beaufighter, Spitfire and Vulcan. No shooting down of other aircraft but top fun flying around some classic aircraft!!
