Picked up 'JUMPIN JAQUES' today, and it was worth the wait.
After seeing the mustang at Elvington, the model does it justice.
Just love it. :D

Almost 1000 less than the others.. enough to stop the rot...??????

Bout the same as Kiwi Spitfire.. so if the Yankees take the bulk, it could be in short supply, if they dont, be in the bins by Xmas...!! ;)

My JJ's just arrived and after seeing it at Elvington Airshow....... VERY nice.... Good job Corgi.... Once again, the brochure does NOT do it justice..... :)

Oh - and another plus on the packaging..... Corgi have removed that silly gripping holder that was on the other 1/32nd planes issued..... Well done.. A lot easier to unpack and repack..... No damaging the aircraft.....

One dealer was selling BBD at Donny one time for £40 because the grip had marked the rear fusalage. Don't know if he had any takers. I offered him £35 and he told me to get lost :)

Aces,

To be honst I would put the BBD and JJ together and I have displayed em for a couple of hours in my front room and they look lovely as a pair.......

In terms of build, etc.... Again, much the same...... They both look better that the OC and Stinger though.........

JJ was not one of mine, but I question the tone of blue used in the trim, compared with the blue colour used on the actual P-51D flying in this scheme here in UK. The colour of blue used on this is more or a turquoise-blue, whereas the Corgi JJ has a 'Bodney Blue' scheme, but without colour photos of the original, who knows?

Yeah.... But I have to quote this by Stealth and his Duxford visit that was originally posted on the Blue HUrricane thread:-

"But any how - was at the Duxford Special Interest Day today, in which they were discussing behind the scenes at Duxey and the final speaker was a gentlemen called Chris Knapp who is the Conservation Manger at IWM Duxford.

Well he imparted a anecdote which brought a REALLY big smile to my face – he was involved with the restoration of the Avenger in the American Air Museum, which for those who have not seen it is…….well……..BLUE.

And when this was first displayed he was approached by a person (I’ll edit what he said!!), who said to him (and he did this in a nerdy voice) “I say that’s the wrong shade of blue”

To which his reply was “Really and what shade should it be?” “The Blue it was the minute it came off the production line” “The Blue it was when it was delivered to the USAAF and had probably faded a bit due to the weather” “The Blue it was after a few Combat missions” “The Blue that was actually put in the Spray gun” “The blue it was when it was delivered through the Gates at Duxford” “Or the Blue it was when you see it in Magazines or Books which are nearly always wrong due to colour printing and production issues”

At which point our so called expert exited……

A very knowledgeable chap who gave a very insightful talk on restoring and colour work – I would suggest perhaps a few folks who are questioning colours go and have a chat with him – he’ll put you right!!!!!!!! ;) ;) ;)"

Amazing reply and I would tend to say the same for the JJ, despite who's it is U.A......

Brought BBD cost me $235 AUS by the time i paid postage, all that aside i was very impressed with the high level of detail and overall finish.Have the Franz Gotz BF109G on order hoping that will be as good as the mustang, the actual models are always better in the flesh as the catalogues dont do them justice.Really hoping for a corsair in the same scale

CFBC, that's a VERY interesting slant you posted on shades of "exact" colour!!
I like that.
Also a point to note, that no matter how accurate the model makers get em, we the collectors influence the shade too depending on how and where we store/dispaly them. Bright light/dim light/ heat, etc etc etc

Charley,

Whats to say which is right? The one flying or the one been produced by Corgi??? As for the "polish" effect on the Flying m/c...... Do you think they would have been as highly polished when on duty?

They had one on display in the RAF Museum shop when I was there on Sunday. I have to agree, it looks very nice - but not quite up to BBD's standards. As I've already got 2 1/32 P-51s (BBD and Old Crow) and space is tight, I'm unlikely to go for this one unless it drops to the "too good to walk away from" level.

Albert Ross
19th October 2004, 15:47
I've got one of course, but am not quite sure about the shade of blue used, or if the one flying in this scheme is more accurate. I think possibly the Corgi model colour is the most accurate as the same colour as the "Blue Nosed B*ast*rds from Bodney" used.

Myself & little bisfit were on the U.S.S.Intrepid in N.Y.C. the other week and found JJ $86-00 (About £50-00).We did not purchase it though because although it said ltd on the outside of the box on a leaflet inside there was a notice saying "No certificate".Can anyone shed any light on this,or is this just because it was exported?

Another case of limited edition number now being on the models stand as opposed to their being a certificate. High time the certificates came back, seems the new 'idea' not registering in some parts of the world!! Your leaflet wuld seem to be an addition by the seller........

Hi Bisfit,

I've just checked mine and the number is on the stand. As our learned pointy eared friend has suggested the note was probably put in by the seller.

[The Intrepid is great but was really disapointed when I found on closer inspection that the Helldiver in the hangar was a "mock up". I thought I was going to see my first real one!] :(

No way! I would have had a hell of a job getting that back to this "Sceptered Isle" in my suitcase! I bought mine at a toy fair over here earlier in the year.
I often stay on the other side of the river and catch the ferry over ... very handy for the Intrepid ... and saves hours trying to get through that b....y New Holland tunnel!

CFBC

Agent X20
8th November 2004, 22:58
Lets do the Maths....

3000 BBD's.. the most popular Mustang livery... and they are £25.. If yer cant shift these at the likes of Dux then gawd help you.. Dealers must be buying these in at what £20.. shove em in the Storeroom, bring em out next year .. £40.. as in Hughie Green.. double yer money.. better than a Pension Plan anyday.. (if not £50)

2200 JJ's.... not as popular... 800 down on BBD.. I think if it was 1500 then you would be looking at a shortage, but naw... these will be the same if not cheaper, all things being equal.... IMHO...

minter
9th November 2004, 08:37
so what will you pay for the hartman then Agent?

Agent X20
9th November 2004, 15:16
Mmmm thats a good one.....

Assuming they do make it and we are looking at a run of about 2000, then it got to be thirty to thirty five notes, it is the other two that will be cheaper now that the third one has been announced... However I think you are going to be looking at launch times being very critical now to a models success... We have now three 109's to be launched in the next eight months... if the time between launches is too rapid they will just blend into one another and its nothing to do with the quality of the models (which am sure will be superb), you havent got the people out there with that sort of money (or relationship.. unless you convince her its Groundhog Day..) .. or perhaps the space.....

.. so it might be even less than thirty notes...

minter
9th November 2004, 15:28
this is what im trying to understand, like you say 3 109s now, hartman ,may be more popular than the other 2 so thats killed them then, unless you get every single one, but who does? its too much.. will admire them on Mr Ts site first before i purchase.

Agent X20
9th November 2004, 15:37
Well one would think the ace would be more, although the Bader 32 Spit seems to be as cheap as everything else.. Its an alright colour scheme the Hartmann one... Like you I will be admiring them on Mr T's site first as I certainly aint paying top dollar for em....

Interesting thread this one :)

I did not realize that there was interest in Jumpin Jacques.

You can see the early concerns about numbers starting here......... cutting back to 2000

These models were expensive, when first released, and I don't think many ever expected the meltdown in prices that soon came about

A great coplour scheme this one. To think 5 years ago you could pick them up for around £30 is amazing. I wonder what they go for now?
I'm guessing yopu'd be lucky to get one at £50. But then BBD was always the more popular. Thats probably commands a higher price!

PTO instead of ETO, I think  .....I have 2 or 3 , and it was a very good looking model. I think one of the Duxford warbirds was in this scheme, so thats why they may of gone for it
