Sorry I didn't bump into the rest of you, but my brummm brumm collecting mate announced he had to be back early to take his lad to football practise so we were away by twelve.
Picked up my Russian Heinkels which I'm very, very pleased with. IMHO, as someone else as already said on the thread, possibly Corgi's best yet.
One well known stand had a new range [well they were to me anyway] of diecasts for about £3 each which, whilst they wouldn't do anything for the rivet counters among us, would certainly keep any aspiring little die-cast collector happy.
Met a charming and obviously enthusiastic lady collector who promised to join our illustrious ranks once she'd realised I was going on about a forum for model enthusiasts of the aviation diecast sort ... [bit of a misunderstanding there at first!]Had to explain what I meant by a pink York! :o
One of the larger AA dealers was missing so the choice of vendor was down a bit .. especially for the civvie collector, but I did see the RAF Transport Command Dak on one stand for £19 ... [haven't seen those for a while]. the rest of were fairly well catered for I thought, with all the newish releases available including the Swiss Hunter at around £25.
Back to purpose of post which is suggestion that Forum Members wear some sort of discreet badge, slightly less complicated than funny handshakes or the 'Is he Ain't he/she look!!''

Hi Aces,
Doors open officially at 10 and it goes on until three. I'm picking my pre-ordered Spits up from my friendly "pusher".
Their web site shows they are "sold out" but I understand they could have a few on the stand on the day. If you're sure your going it might be a good idea to contact them and ask them to reserve one for you to "avoid dissapointment" as they say.
The rules quite rightly prevent me from telling you who ... but if you want to PM me?

Black Spitfires readily available around the £20 mark, "The next RST Spitfire" I don't think so................!

"The black Spitfire the next RST?" ... nope ... I don't think so either! More like the next US spotter.
Raff
I paid a brief visit, picked up a couple of 'Legends' for Christmas presents for my two nephews...
As for the Black Spit, It just doesn't look right...CHC website photo shows roundels on the wings but without them it just don't look right! (i know it is! ) bit of a case of the 'pink spit' really. Not one for me...very bland looking although i do love the Spitfire!! As for it being the next US spotter...well its price seems to be lingering aroung the £18/£19 mark so its doing okay.
I don't understand why the F51 Korean War Mustang is readily available for 'two fivers' jet 'Gentleman Jim' is hanging in at £15.00
Not a bad show though...Canberra at £30.00... didn't quite tempt me...

Had a wander round Brentwood this morning and there were three or four stalls carrtying a good number of AAs and the occasional model dotted round on some other stalls.
Came out with Canadian Lanc @ 22.50 (pressie from the Mrs. :D )
Dickfield 190 @ £10
Gentleman Jim P-51 @ £10
RN Corsair @ £9.50
WWII Legends were all around £6 - £6.50, no 1/32 Mozzies to be seen (but to be fair as I was walking one guy was wheeling out a large barrow full of AA boxes so he may have had them all!!) 1/32 BBD was £39. Quite a few B24s around the £19-£20 mark. Wellingtons between £50 and £60. Can't wait until the next one :D :D

This was my first visit to a toyfair!
Bought the Canadian Maritime Lanc (£29), RAF Mitchell (£56), 'Amiens' Mozzie (£14), Stuka A5+HH (£6), 'Ripple' Bucc (£29), and the Easy planes Finnish Hurri.
Carried them all 1 1/2 miles back to the station & then train, tube, train back home.
I had run out of cash when the dealer said he had the Lanc behind the stall & had to walk to the petrol station on the Ongar road to get some more from the ATM. Luckily he kept the Lanc for me until I could get back with the dosh.
Saw the N/F Hurri for £55 but was only slightly tempted, may be I should have bought it as an investment?

Sorry Geoff did not go on the thread until today, would have been good to meet you and have a natter. Had a cracking day, also had a look at the NEW P-51, P47 (both Bud Mahurin) look cool so will have to get them. Also had a look at the new 1/32 Hurri. I think it looks GREAT! Just returned from a good Brentwood Fair....
Bader Hurricane was £35, Deere Spit KL-B (or should that be "Dear Spit") was on offer at one stall for a mere £90 (Oh dear......)
Surprised to see two Thailand Mossies on different stalls.
The Century F14's (£35) and the HM A10's (£23) looked superb
One seller had large display models for sale (like Duxford Gift Shop) the yellow Sea King was nice, but all looked a bit pricey
Also surprised to see two "War in the Pacific" sets for sale.
Saw 1 Dambuster Lanc and a few Libs. Saw one SnS B17 for £45 (?) is that typical for an SnS, or because there were no night bombing B17's (Perhaps a swift mod to a KG200 ????? would help.)
A few IXO models were about.
Loads there I wanted to buy, but the new strict "1 aircraft per type" rule I have set myself for 2007 (Phantoms excepted) knocked that on the head
Came away with a GA P51B
Was hoping to get a 262 for under a tenner, but didn't see any (?)
Place was packed, usual pre airshow season crowd.

This time of year you will usually see Bob Oddie and Aces High at Brentwood each with a large selection, often there may be one or two others with some aviation diecast amongst the 240 odd tables there, plenty of free parking at the Brentwood centre so that's not usually a problem.
Check the closing time if your going pm, sometimes I think they close it earlier than 3pm, maybe 2.30pm?

Will be there next Saturday, chiefly to hand over 3 models sold on Ebay, then a quick buzz round for any cheap WWII planes or tanks. Not sure what time, depends on my buyer.

And a very good Brentwood it was too.........................
Just my luck, well skint, and a decent showing from the aviation sellers.
Actually bought an IXO Hs 129 and a FOV B26 (if you got the first one, I got the second. Thanks for the heads up, thought they were B25 Mitchells )
Could have bought: Sopwith Camel, Hobbymaster F4's, Huey, BOB Heinkel, Gibson Mossie, Corgi F4 "Anette" (£21) .....sadly, no cash.....
Not much 1/72 armour around, saw more Corgi than Dragon.
The car park was full, but the Toyfair wasn't, nice as a buyer to have room for a change, doubt if the sellers agree with me on that point.

Jap.

How'd'ya rate it ????????
I'm aware (as a result of 'last-years' posts) that F.o.V. B.26's are VERY hit & miss on their (lower) standard of finish
I bought 2 of the Chipping-Ongar/Olive-Drab version (1st-one) & luckily for me, they BOTH came out well.....(complete opposite of Dave Cotton's grim-experience !).
So, how do YOU rate the Silver-finished '26, overall, Jap ?

Arrived just after 10am and did not see any of those, mind you I must have had my MB-T goggles on as that was my main target that day....

Slightly better yesterday, Bob in new position right by the door represented the only major player in attendance, few smaller AA sellers around if you looked hard enough, found an unopened Neville Duke Trop Spit for £11 which came home with me to boost my small desert collection by 25 per cent, Corgi 110 kept it company on the way home.

Decided to attend an indifferent Brentwood yesterday, with my wife acting as Santa Claus.
Came away with 2 "Forward March" figures that were missing from my collection (German Ski Trooper and Falklands Para CC59155 (never seen that one before) bought from the guy that also sells display cabinets. (his own collection)
Also bought with an IXO Defiant, probably not to everyones taste, and maybe riddled with inaccuracy, but for £10 I am well pleased with it.
My wife spent more than I did (she collects dolls/figurines (not military))
Most of the "top shelf" models were fairly priced, though there was a Grumpy 1/32 up for £150. Nothing appeared to be selling well, and most items were still there on my 3rd "lap" of a cold hall. Attendance was well down also.
Really amused by the fact that, as I backed the car out of the space, the drivers on each side were both examining their purchases out of the box!

:( Mr. Jap,
Problem with Brentwod Toy Fair, and some others for that matter, is that there are too many of them each year. Six fixtures for Brentwood is imho overkill and from a traders point of view the overheads cannot always be justified....

Came away with silver Tempest and silver West Malling Meteor (£15), resisted new HM Harrier @ £28 (may wait for later RAF realease) and BOB Me110 despite low cert number.

Two usual players in attendance today with a scattering of diecast on a few other stalls.
Bit of excitment as play was rudely interupted by the fire alarm sounding and a partial evacuation taking place (after the bells were ignored for a good five minutes), I eventually evecuted to a safe spot about 10 feet from the hall (well you never know it could have quickly turned into a fire sale!!)
Not a lot to excite me today, still resisted the GR7 @ £28 and had a good look at the F3 Tornado, wasn't really that impressed with it so left it alone.
In the end I came away with a Corgi Meteor TT (minus stand) for just £6 and treated myself to Ixo Defiant for £10.

Nipped into Brentwood yesterday and have to say the most disappointing Toyfair yet for diecast. There was only one aircraft diecast trader (by the door) I was tempted by the £55 Dorniers and the £89 Doe Spitfire.
Went looking for 1/72 military vehicles and came away with an Opel half track truck (can't spell "Maultier") and an armoured truck with a 37mm flak gun on the back from the "Digby's" stall (£16.95 each) There was a US SP modern "Paladin" howitzer that I wanted to purchase but the mounted .50 calibre MG was without detail and spoilt the whole model.
The entire range of what I look for ( diecast aircraft, military vehicles and diecast 1/18 cars ) is now in severe decline at this venue.
I needed another wall mounted display cabinet and £60 went to the nice guy in the first row towards his retirement fund.

Just got back from Brentwood with the mini Cols and quite enjoyed it (probably because of the novelty).
There was one dedicated aviation stall plus a dozen or so models on another stall. Other than that, odds and ends scattered around amongst the (mostly) railway stuff.
Picked up a couple of models I was after: Super Sabre Triple Zilch for £27 and the HM Canadian Starfighter for £10 so worth the effort. Managed to pass on a B52 for £25 but wished I hadn't now:rolleyes:
Other stuff that my eyes wandered over: Bob Doe Spit for £89, some HM 1/48 Spits for around £30, the Gemini 92 sqn Phantom and an old Dinky Chieftain tank I remembered having as a kid.
May go to the next one but suspect after that it may become a bit deja vu:)
ps mini Cols were a bit scathing about the fact that the hall was full of a lot of old men selling old toys. Had to buy them off with a Beanie toy or two and Dr Who collectors cards:rolleyes:

Glad you enjoyed yourself Col, that was Bob oddie by the door, I was tempted by his Gemini clipped wing Spit, the one with the Smurf, for £25 but a last minute wobble saw me putting it back. The Falcon Models Cougar and T33 looked good, but again maybe another day.
Another chap had an Immelmann Ju87, the first Corgi release for £30 which also nearly drew the wallet out, that would have been a display replacement for my long term £5 Legends Stuka, which gets to live another day!
So my only purchase, a HM F-111, which will bump my Corgi Woodbridge F4 out the way to complete a genuine Vietnam shelf line up!
japadvan
2nd October 2010, 23:48
I was there (nothing else to do) and that HM F111 nearly came home with me! It looked well built, good camo and a give away £45. Was intending to buy a Dornier for £55 but thought better of it. There was a hell of a debate going on in my head along the lines of how can a first class HM product be £45 and an average Corgi item be £55? (on the stall, not RRP)
Argument put me off the Dornier, and narrowly decided against the F111 on the grounds I no longer collect jets and lack of space. I think the F111 will be well sought after eventually though, on the scale of the yellow SAR Sea King (My prediction for 2010.)
My only purchase was a 1/18 Honda S2000 convertible.

Just returned from a "Usual" Brentwood with a new Skyraider (£30) and a camo GA F4K. (£39) Been umming over this F4 as I love the way it looks (remembering the school playing field one winters day in '73 and seeing 2 go blasting over at low level) but the navi's "basement seat" is a distraction. The Skyraider (VA 195 Dambusters in dark blue) was an easy purchase (no fogging issues.) Thanks to "The Doorkeeper" for those.
Rest of the hall indifferent as usual except for the other diecast a/c seller (slightly more expensive.)
Despite the +7 deg C outside temp the long queue was formed INSIDE the foyer for a change (!?????????) Fortunately a prompt 10am start avoided internal gridlock. Was rather hopeful on my arrival as parking spaces were plentiful.
I wish somebody would sell 1/72 diecast armour, they would clean up, IMHO.

I had the very same thought, judging by Brentwood today you wouldn't have thought armour diecast was even made it so scarce!
I was looking for some suitable OO scale fencing to use on a dio, even given that this fair is railway biased, still could not find what I was looking for!
Still made up for that small disapointment by taking home for Christmas a few models, HM Delta Dagger, suprised at how big this is, I always thought it was comparable in size a Mirage III, obviously not then!! Also Corgi Lightning F6 74 Sqd and 2 blade Spit.
Dawn patrol to Brentwood this morning and a fair amount to see aviation wise: Bob(?) Oddie and ARD, another guy and bits and pieces.
Well pleased with myself:
The 92sqn Phantom for just under £30; an EF111 for £35 and one of the new magazine Mirage IIIs for £20.
The Mirage is very nicely done but wings are plastic - so about 50% diecast. I wouldn't let that put anyone off as it is nicely finished and some nice detailing on u/c. The seller had a Phantom and F100 that didn't look too bad either.
BUT, BUT - on a final sweep around the hall, took a casual look at a stall selling Burago cars and Tetley tea pots and mugs......a mint 92sqn Lightning. Only scuff marks the box had were caused by my frenzied hands trying to pull it out from behind the stall shelving. The price of this little gem.......£15 :D :D :D.

You have summed it up in three words there.... all of the Toyfairs can be a bit of a hit and miss affair at the moment as there is so little pooch stock about, you are looking at dealers with established stock like Mr Spock or some one trying to dispose of their collection - it all depends what you are after...
One thing that has changed of late is that unless you go in as an 'early bird' thats as and when the traders get there, then most of the bargains will be divided out amoungst the traders long before opening time at 10/11...
But it gives you a chance to look at the purchase before commital and socially they can be enjoyable..

Brentwood toyfair.
Popped in today to pick up a couple of reserves from Mr Oddie (Korean A26 & Decom Harrier), found a few bargains around some other stalls today, pre owned Corgi Hunter Black Arrows, mine for a fiver, also came away with a Corgi 76 Sqd Hunter for £10, again pre owned and a new Corgi Sea Hurricane (Shuttleworth) for £12.50, same trader also had Gemini Skyraiders for £15 & £20!
Bargian of the day which I passed on, Corgi 1:32 Mustang 'Stinger' for a tenner, which eventually went home with Bob.
Got there very early (ie on early entry ticket) as had to deliver the mini Cols somewhere else mid morning. Picked up the 20th anniversary Corgi Falklands Harrier (the light grey one) for £10. Trouble was, when I was leaving there were still some stall holders setting up:D
If anyone has Mr Oddie's contact details I wouldn't mind them as I may need to return/swap an HM F4 with a slight QA issue (not apparent until unpacked).

Slim pickings at the toy fair today. Saw the Sea King/Apollo 11 combo for £30but money tight, so passed. Same with an Airforce One B707 at £10. Only a tenner but that would have been the only reason for buying it.
A few more of the IXO/Altaya/?? modern jets. Difficult to have a close look under the plastic. The swing wings (Tornado and Tomcat) don't swing and they are as light as a feather. But the Harrier looked ok cv the old Corgi one. The camo Mig21 looks very nice and probably a better colour match than the HM. Would just like to be able to check the qc and finish before buying.
One thing I don't understand is that when I left just before 10:00 there was a long queue waiting to get in. Don't know what the normal entry price is but for an early bird entry it cost me and one of the mini Cols a fiver. If you're a keen collector, and most of them looked like they'd sell their mother for a bit of rail track, why not spend the extra to get in ahead of the game?

You know I thought these were plastic, I was discussing them with my mate and although the packaging looked very much IXO, they were so light I convinced myself that they were plastic!
My only purchase on the day were the Corgi short nose Whirlwind and Stinky!
