Hi Chaps (and ladies?)

Just joined the forum (having lurked for a while) and thought I'd say Hi.

Been collecting since 2000, started with the Corgi Spitfire, Hurricane and Me109 BofB "trio", plus the Black Arrows Hunter, and it mushroomed from there.

Collection is primarily Corgi, solely 1/72 scale, but one Dragon Fw 190 D, and a rapidly expanding selection of the IXO/Altaya models where the subject is not made by anyone else.

I'm not one of the detail accuracy fanatics, and thus can't get too fired up by arguments over minor "errors" in mouldings or markings, I just love the aircraft they represent, and know that few people looking at my display would know a Hurricane I from a Hurricane II anyway, so why get wound up about minute details.

Current count is about 85 models, but don't tell the wife:eek:, as I can only display about thirty five at a time:D

Having moved outside the "Corgi" box with the single Dragon, and now the recent IXO's, I have the worrying feeling that the bug has reached the point of no return, as am looking at the Hellcats, Wildcats etc that would expand the collection by aircraft type (rather than my original policy of sticking with Corgi models only). Not sure which will happen first, CC-limit overload, divorce, or need to move house to store the collection - it's the damned boxes that take so much space :( .

Welcome to the madhouse Paul, oh and to the Forum!

Whist you have been lurking for sometime I would guess you have a good feel for the Forum and it's members so if you require any additional details, quastions or have something to say then please feel free as that is what we are all here for.....

Ok, we have a few rivot counters, a few serious members and then a few nutters.... You wil fit in nicely.....

Don't worry about your CC bill, your wife or feeding your kidz also.. All part of collecting aviation diecast.

Have fun. :) That is what life is all about!

Paul F,

Welcome! You will soon learn to be as cunning as a fox to continue to collect your diecasts. I have to many in the loft. If Mrs Shuttle ever spots them I am a dead man!

Hello Paul

Welcome aboard.:)

It sounds as though you are firmly in my camp when it comes to the accuracy thing. As long as they aren't hopelessly wrong so even I can spot the mistake, fine.

I just collect Corgi WWII although I have one Dragon warbird and intend getting the new Gemini first releases but other than that, I will stick to Corgi.

Sadly I am also addicted to 1:72 tanks, mainly Dragon but..................

Welcome, from the nutter end of the forum!

Thanks for the warm welcome one and all.

Shuttle, as for cunning - having had a large number of models arrive recently I have had to resort to getting them delivered to a safe-house first where they can be held until opportunities exist for sneaking them in one or two at a time "under the radar". If I can then resist putting them straight on display for a month or so then when asked "Is that ANOTHER new one then?" by "her indoors", I can legitimately say, "No Dear, I've had that one for a while....." and hope my subterfuge isn't rumbled.

This works unless the model stands out from the crowd by being unusual colours, or an unusual shape - the recently arrived IXO Do335 and He 219 being cases in point. May have to own up to their arrival, and hope Corgi don't "un-delay" their latest delivery dates on the Gladiator, Swordfish and Hawk.....but of course, if this means they back them up and release them very close to their proposed 2nd half issues of same moulds then it could all end in tears :-( Ho Humm.

Hi Paul, welcome to the nut house!

You lot crack me up, it's like collecting is not a hobby, more an SOE operation! How lucky I am!

Welcome aboard Paul. Agree with you on the accuracy thing as I'm not as clued up as some on here. You'll find loads of advice and some very talented individuals, oh and some interesting banter:LOL:

THATS the way to do it Paul! :D

Comes a point though when there are even a few raised eyebrows at the 'safe-house'.........

Well i'll pitch my tent next to you two then as that's exactly how i think tbh. Aslong as its not a glaringly bad model or mistake then i'm quite happy, especially when you pick them up at bargain prices.

Welcome to the nuthouse Paul, the more the merrier.............

Welcome aboard, Paul - this is a very lively - at times hilarious ( well, I think so, anyway ) forum. But it is always active.....

Main problem with this place is the sheer expense ( I've lost count of the 'not one for me' models I've been tempted to buy following discussion here :( )

Happy collecting from one who has quite unfairly been libelled as a 'borderline rivet-counting nutter'.....

Welcome Paul, seems like you have the same problems as a few of us.
My safe house scam was rumbled years ago.I had my Aviation prints delivered to my mums, then the wife visited her and saw a stack of brochures for prints with my mums address on, took her 2 seconds to put 2 and 2 together.:o
I even have to conceal the boxes/wrapping at the bottom of the wheely bin, shes spotted discarded wrappings before and found out about new arrivals.:(
One tip, next time a Donald Duck or Aussie mossie sells for silly money on the bay, save it and show her, 'look dear ,all my collection will be worth that much one day'

MB, can understand your upset at being labelled merely borderline...a terrible stain on your reputation as the 100% rivet counting font of all knowledge....('tis true Paul, he knows everything!)
