View Full Version : What next?

So what, if indeed any, helicopters do you think we'll get next? Any you'd like to see made? Personally I would like a Lynx, Gazelle and a Puma for starters. I see, and hear them very day, at about 50ft, sometimes less. Some would say I don't need the models when I get close-ups like I do.

Yeah all of those look cool. Other possibilities; Westland Whirlwind and Wessex!

Naw.. you would get arrested..... would they have the international sales though.... I would have thought the S55 or S58's would be a more commercial choice for Corgi....

Agree Ascot, a Blackhawk would be seriously cool but I would have thought the SA-330 Puma would have had plenty of variations to make it worthwhile, same goes for the Gazelle. As for the Wessex, I cannot understand why it hasn't been done already. It seems to be one of many that Corgi have "forgotten" about. I would love to see a Merlin but back to colour schemes. It's been said that if some scales were given up, Corgi could concentrate more money on other craft. I say if they hadn't done so many cr***y colur schemes there would be money left to do the wanted list. What differentiates Aviation Archive from other models, is that the others are toys basically. So why do Corgi insist on doing toy colours on a "model for the adult collector"?

I agree with Agent...I think the Sikorsky/Westland S-55/H-19 and S-58/H-34 would offer countless liveries and possibilities for Corgi.

Nice site with some great photographs.
I think in general, helicopters have largely been ignored by alot of the model manufacturers and I would especially like to see more done in die-cast. As for international sales, any of the above mentioned would sell well, especially in europe and in the States, Wessex variations are sure to sell well. Do helicopters sell well for Corgi though?

Talking of a Mi-24 Hind. How about one in a special paint job? Haven't seen this one before.

Albert,

There was a lot of support on the old forum for the idea of a Wessex / H-34 and you were going to suggest it to Corgi. Are you able to give us any feedback? Short-listed or shot down?

Gotta be done. In addition to the American/Brit standards, there are some interesting exotics such as a French Algerian gunship, the first true attack helicopter in operation. I'd really like a Dragonfly, but suspect that is unlikely.

The Wessex/S-58 would be great. I live not far from RNAS Culdrose and still have fond memories of a Wessex crewman waving at me when one flew over at a very low level back when I was a young 'un.

I'd love to see a Merlin too, as they thunder around at all hours at low level these days, but I guess there's not much variety yet. That may change if the EH101 gets picked up by the US military...

In the meantime, how about an AEW Sea King?

In service with (deep breath) RAF, RN, Canada, Italy, Denmark, Portugal and Tokyo police (2). Plenty of schemes. Potential customers-ALL (inc USCG) branches of the US armed forces in the US101 variant

Wessex sounds good to me, I'd love a yellow Air-Sea Rescue one. Lovely aircraft, surely has enough of a following?

You would think so... that (Wessex S58) or Whirlwind (S55).. and Corgi never seem to be short of yellow paint...

Merlin would be nice, but with only one RAF squadron using them, and the Royal Navy machines looking so samey maybe hard to get the desired production runs. That said the Canadian Commorant SAR would a nice version! :)

1/72 Apache anyone? "A" models in Israeli and US Army markings, followed by the "D" in US Army, Army Air Corps, and KLu markings.

Agent X20

Naw.. us oldies will settle for a Wessex/Whirlwind... thank you.... Corgi stoopidity working undertime here..

S55/58 - US Market
Whirwind/Wessex - UK market

Two birds one stone...... would be a flyer..!!

Gannet
22nd November 2004, 14:42
Apache could also be samey, I fear. Only the Israelis have painted them anything other than olive drab. Even the British Army has gone for the standard US finish, with markings that need a microscope to see. Shame. Would have looked nice in grey/green.
