Legends 2006 was the last scheduled UK airshow appearance by that firm Forum favourite, P-47D 'No Guts, No Glory'. It's been pleasing crowds here for 20 years : this week, it's due to be crated up and sent to a new owner in the USA.

Things looked touch-and-go at the weekend, with reported ignition trouble on Saturday followed by overnight hangar work, and a reluctant start-up on Sunday. But the old girl didn't let TFC - or us - down and I was keen to get some pics for old time's sake......

Nice pictures Martin. I was so disappointed not to see her fly on Friday as NGNG has been a long term favourite of mine and I'm really sorry to see her leave.

I remember being at the Mildenhall Air Fete in 1986 when she arrived. In those pre-internet days the most up to date news was in that month's Flypast. I'd read that TFC were supposed to be getting a P-47, but didn't know that it had arrived or that it was going to be at the Air Fete. Up until then I think I'd only ever seen one P-47 in a museum, so it was a real treat when NGNG arrived.

I must admit I just stood back and watched her fly yesterday. It will be sad to see her go but the 'new' P-47 sitting in the hanger will fill her place very well I think!

Would've been nice to have both but I think a Forum whip-round may have been needed to enable Mr Grey to do that......;)

Don't bet on it, I heard from a reliable scorce that TFC's P-47G is a real basket case with major corrosion issues. It will be a few years before we see it fly, that is if it's not sold on before then.:(

The fact that these Curtiss built machines never saw front line service due to their poor build quality is also telling, hence why they all ended up on stateside training squadrons.

NGNG will be sorely missed as the only European based airworthy P-47, I hope we all took a good look at the Tigercat too, as it departs for the USA on Wednesday. :(

Planejunky,

I had assumed that the 'new' P-47 was in a good state when the deal was announced! Hhhhmmm, I take back what I said then...... I was still very depressed when I saw the Beaufighter looking very close to final completion and realising that there is no chance of ever seeing it fly in this country. What a real shame.

That is a major, major b*mm*r ! :( I have to say that I did rather wonder why the Razorback was still so comprehensively dismantled.

The UK airshow scene will be much, much the poorer. True, the P-47 is a US aircraft but I've always looked on 'NGNG' as a flying tribute to the 8th who fought from East Anglia, much the same as 'Sally B'.

...and the 78FG trio (NGNG, BBD and TT) always looked a picture together

Oh nuts! I thought the P-47 would be up flying by next year- does not sound good. And I'd missed the fact that the Tigercat is going. Just a little concerned as to what happens when Mr Grey is no longer able to fly his machines. Using the Beaufighter as an example, dos that mean that the collection will be broken up or is TFC structured to avoid this?

Nick Grey (Steven's son), is very active in TFC so the future looks pretty good I think. Nick was flying the P-51C at Legends with Ed Shipley flying "Twilight Tear", Saturday's show was a real blinder with Ed seemingly glued in formation for the Mustang routine!

True TFC is undergoing some major changes in inventory with the departue of some much loved favourites, but hopefully it will remain the country's number one warbird collection in terms of shear variety.

So why was one of the most popular aircraft on the airshow circuit sold?
Was it due to financial reasons,or do the TFC just like to rotate their collection. The new razorback P47 did look in a sorry state in the hangar. So as already stated i think it will be a couple of years before we see her fly.

Those of us lucky enough to have been Duxford regulars over the past 15 years or more may have seen a golden age for warbirds. Will we ever see a genuine Me109, P-38,Mosquito,P-47, on the same day at an airshow again.

Nice pic`s there MB very sad to here that there shipping NGNG to the states I think she should stay right there in the UK where she belongs:confused: . Right after the 2003 WW2 weekend airshow they shipped "Donald Emerson`s" P-51D over to the UK she is now at Hendon Museum on display, I thinks she should be in the air flying over there and not in a museum.

Saw NGNG display on Saturday which was very impressive especially after the early morning appearance when she looked a bit doubtfull. Perhaps her forth coming departure to the US made her behave like a kid who doesn't want to go to school and just pretended to be ill.:)

The Tigercat's departure is a surprise to me but at least it was nice to get a couple of final pics.

Funnily enough DCR, that's exactly what I said to my Dad as we watched NGNG with the cowlings off on Sunday morning and then the long-winded performance as it tried to fire up. I remember NGNG on nearly every occasion I've seen it being 100% reliable.

It's really a shame. I feel as bad about the departure of this aircraft as I did about the Strathallan Mossie to Kermit Weeks ( the less said about that, the better.... )

Sad to see her go guys. :( I wish she'd hang around long enough for me to see her at Dux one more time, but I'll have to be satified with my one visit in 2002.

My little tribute to her, though not the best scan (from my pre-digital days)..
