2nd August 2004, 01:41
Well, here we go again.... On the 8th August there will be a toyfair..... Anyone going? It is at the Lincolnshire Showground....

It can be a little hit-n-miss, but sometimes worthwhile if you are early!!! Internal trading takes place...... :(

I have not put a date on the above new thread so it can be used again at a later date...... :)

I never miss Lincoln CFBC as I like the atmosphere and the sausage butties :p

Had some good buys there and the dealer from Norwich usually has some good bargains (Don't want to be accused of advertising :) )

I'm always in the queue waiting for it to open if you want to say hello

Well, a good toyfair with lots of bargains.... (See what I bought thread) as to excatly what I acquired today.... Some prices were medium, some high and some down right stupid...... So took advantage of them all......

Enjoyed the fair, good to meet up with CFBC. Some good value items around and plenty of AA's disappearing at a rate of knots.

I think CFBC had cleaned out quite a lot of the stuff early doors having been there at 7.30 :)

Hopefully some new members emerge as there was a bit of a publicity drive happening.

CFBC
9th August 2004, 09:48
Yes Snafu, likewise.... Was good to meet-up and my buying was only halted by the lack of funds after visiting the local supermarket for more dosh..... I dare not take anymore out or Mrs CFBC would kill me...... She actually saw the pile of boxes in my house yesterday and did not comment..... Hmmm. She adopting a new tactic?

Got to agree there was a number of real bargains there.....

Nice to hear you acquired a Dragon or two Snafu.... They are nice and I don't really have a problem with the boxes, in fact I prefer them over Corgi as they are smaller and more compact..... Easier to store......

Be good to meet any other members at another toyfair....... Next time....

Well I popped down there today.. lots of 'bodies' there for a day out and generally getting in the way... bumped into CFBC, Stealth,Dogtwenty and Spock1... CFBC and Stealth were later spotted buying some sort of flower arranging accessories  not sure what thats all about! :p
I bought a couple of models, spotted (and left alone) the 1/32 Me109's starting at £50, other than that nothing much to report.. bit like the NEC as it was mostly 2004 catalogue stuff, but not as cheap as NEC - obviously the dealers were hoping to mop up some of the money people had been given for Christmas.. ;) no Cunard Britannia or Dan Air Comet or as I said anything much from older ranges... I even caught myself admiring some model Tractors.. help!
Neil.

CFBC
3rd January 2005, 09:42
Well, didn't bust me gut getting there yesterday for any bargains, but I am really pleased I didn't as bargain hunting was really poor.... A few "competitive" tables were not there, although a few others were....... Not a bad toyfair, but not a brilliant start to the year..... Found it hard to part with my money!!!! Thats strange for me too......

I ended-up bumping into Snaffs and tail-end father, D/W, Two Barrels (when is he gonna post), Neild and Spock1.....

Bargainwise, well.... A couple here and there, but nothing to write home about..... Sadly, the ME109. 1/32nd was around the £50-£55 notes and still sat there, but apart from that, well..... Not a lot of anyting else.........

I had a list of requirements too, but never saw em!!!! :( Or, at least not at what ive seen em priced at before!!!!

Dogtwenty
3rd January 2005, 21:20
I really enjoyed meeting all you chaps and you'll be damn lucky to see the colour of CFBC's dosh let alone a bacon butty!
Perhaps we can make more of meets like these, because I feel it is good for us to get out more...................... and see what we are all like - its a good laugh an all :D
Oh yeah - CFBC - Twobarrels had several swaps in his motor, hoping you might have that set he's after

CFBC
4th January 2005, 07:58
Likewise D/W, was good to meet-up with members of the Forum and talk shop should we say..... Be good to meet more members at other toyfairs here and there, if not just to put a face to a name......

As for the bacon butties...... Well, if yer ain't of been talking for so long, then the queues may not have been so long close to lunchtime!!! :D

snafu
4th January 2005, 09:34
Good start to the year from a meeting point of view - meeting CFBC, Stealth, Dogtwenty, Twobarrels, Spock and Blue Sky.

Amazed that CFBC was empty handed

Ended up with some Airfix stuff for possible diorama purposes (thanks Blue Sky) a Dragon FW190D (thanks Mr Spock) and a plate (Hurricane) for my Heroes of the Sky collection :) .

spock1
5th January 2005, 00:53
:) Nice to see a good turnout at Lincoln by Forum members despite the overkill in toy fairs since Christmas. In other words too many fairs in too small an area in too short a space of time!!!! ............. :(

2005 seems set to be an interesting year in more ways than one imho...!!! ;)

CFBC
5th January 2005, 07:42
Yes, I woudl (((echo))) that indeed Spock1.... Intereting times ahead, both in diecast and toyfairs for aviation diecast......

Just one question..... Missed Blue Sky..... Was he there ALL day?

Here we go, sorry I did not get to reply sooner, but had the old mother around.... :)

Lincoln Toyfair, well... Usual crowd were there, Spock1, J's and also Blue Sky which I had words with all of them and it was most interesting to catch-up, thanks. Apologies to J's for not getting abck as short of time.....

Bargains were there to be had, but not as prior toyfairs... Admit there were a few Dragons scattered around at reasonable prices... Corgi 2004 stuff seems to be a bargain also and there were some heavier metal scattered around at reasonable prices too, but NOT twenty-five quid..... I think those days may have gone???? Hmmm

One thing I heard and saw the guy walking away with was a 300 off, Grand Slam for seventy-nine quid.... Quite a bargain I thought... Ive already got mine pre-ordered (hopefully) or I would have been waiting for the blighter outside... Leather jacket ot no leater jacket!!!!

All in all... Not a bad toyfair... Gotta admit the Dragons seem to be taking-off more. Good spread between stalls.

Sorry I missed you Neild, had to rush off...... No Dogwenty or Two Barrels??

:)

6th March 2005, 18:33

Yes, I was talking to the punter who got the Lancaster 300 Ltd Edition version for £79. He seemed pretty unaware of what he'd actually bought. Good chat with CFBC over a coffee and good to see Blue Sky and Spock on their stalls. Some interesting bits around and some very good prices on the Dragons - P47's £12 and a standard Barkhorn FW190 for £10. Also first sightings of new US releases - Nose Art series - P47 and B17 Bit o'Lace (£85-£95)

Took Pops with me for his first outing after his op - so thanks to all the guys who gave him such a warm greeting - he was very chuffed with the response and it made his day more enjoyable :)

Be good to meet you and your pops Snaffs.

snafu
17th May 2005, 14:19
Yeah Pops has been off to his bolt hole in Mallorca for some sun and missed the Donny fair. He was gutted that I picked up a Canberra so he'll be out to rectify that one and the fact that I've been getting deliveries from the likes of The Mule etc.

It's threatening his position as the family member with the most diecasts :p

22nd May 2005, 14:35
Some interesting prices:

Grand Slam Lanc £45
B52's £12
Buccs and tornado's £10
Legends £7
Peplow £10
B24's and B17's 1/72nd £20
Michigan nose Art B24 1/72nd £39
Jumpin Jacques P51 £29
8th Airforce set £35
Ceylon Hurri £7
P47 Ploesti £17
McKnight Hurri £17

Good to see CFBC and Typhie - lots of bags again Bombster! and Blue Sky and Spock. Very informative chat with Blue Sky - thanks for the background info, much appreciated.

CFBC
22nd May 2005, 15:41
Was good to meet-up with you Snafu and pops in tow, but I didn't see many bags being carried? Hmmm. Why not? Such bargains at hand?

To be honest, although the prices you have given us below are bargains, there was not as many people selling the Aviation Archive and the odd stall here and there that used to house them, well just didn't have them..... Be interesting to see at the next toyfair too....

It also seems Mr Libbie at twenty quid had no Libbies. Looks like his supply lines have been cut.... And good... Whilst it is good to get a bargain now and then, I am sorry beause in my opinion he was just de-valueing the brand, name and all our collections.... My opinion!!!

A reasonable value was substained by most toyfair sellers which was good too see and hear when discussing. So... What did I buy?

One Legend AA, one Legend Armour, one normal AA and three Dragon tanks...... A good mixture I feel.... :)

Did I spend up? No, not as usual......

Well the bigs did fill a bit more, ended up with Peplow Hurricane £10, Tiger Meet Tornado £10, Finucane spitfire £12 and Suez Crises corsair £10. For Pops it was one of the Yorks 1st edition (not sure which), Lane spitfire and the Israeli Mustang/P51 set. so quite a pleasing morning :)

The Defiant Man

 Some went, some saw, some bought but all in all a sad day for Corgi !! Still too many models chasing too few buyers !!...... The older items still holding good but as for recent releases the message MUST be hammered home to Corgi for the good of all and that is simply get the models right, and the pricing !! I shudder to think how much damage they have caused either directly or indirectly to their market this weekend !!.......... :(

This applies not only to AA but across the Classics range as well !! Seems they are either totally clueless (treatable) or hell bent on destroying their credibility (criminal!!)...........

All thats holdin the thing up is the one or two that are buying at RRP.. which given the reviews by those that have bought, hardly insipre confidence, specially in the Land Rover and Jaguar depts.... think its more a case of back to the drawing board...

:) Agent and all.

Recovery is very much possible simply because their are people genuinely interested in Aviation and collecting good quality models of suitable subjects at realistic prices ........!!! :) What needs to be addressed and VERY quickly lies within their economic structure or lack of !! A model with an srp of £99.99 being offered for sale at £15 beggars belief and worse still when you consider they are new and in quantity !!!!!

oooh.. can I have one...?? Thing is though the dealers.. i.e the guys that buy stock from the warehouses.. no sale or return.... so they is making money at £15.. Corgi et al make profit..  .. how is this allowed to happen..????

Thing is Mr Spock all trust with the hound has gone.. if they wanted to clear the decks and start anew.. I betcha we would find within hours that they would be offering them out elsewhere to someone else at a cheaper price.... I aint met a woman that unfaithful...

Bit like one of the latest commissions.. I aint ordered one.. cos every time I has ordered one as a paying customer, I find the blo*dy thing on sale elsewhere, no postage and 10% off... its blo*dy dog eat dog out there and IMHO you play by yer own rules, rather than those spelt out by the manufacturer.... cos they have a different set of rules for everyone they sleep with... :D and I am fed up of combing out sh one t after having been crapped on...

I agree with Spock, after walking around and observing the amazing prices for new a/c. The Unwin Spitfire was £50 on one stall! I too am fed up with pre ordering from rip off merchants, only to discover that I can buy one for £20 opposed to £25, or even worse, for £15!!!!!! :D

It IS hig time Corgi got its pricing sorted out and stopped acting like Pirates, because they may as well fly the Jolly Roger above their stall, and that goes for some other 'connected' traders as well

Tis not the messenger you should be shooting here. Genuine sellers often buy at a trade price that is considerably higher that the later reduced dump prices. And consequently are left with stock that can only be sold at a loss. (Or wait five years [or a few light years :D] )
Tis not the dumping per se. BUT the speed which items are dumped so soon after initial release. This has been sometimes as little as a couple of weeks.

Have to agree with you Snafu, on the whole not that good as I myself picked-up a couple of items, one the ME109. 1/32nd latest offering from Corgi for £30 and a few Dragon Armor... Best bargains for me were some Lledo "Dambusters" and USA sets at a fiver a set... Something I had collected for a while, then stopped....

I was looking for a Nev Duke P40, but no joy.... Also a couple of Dragon figures I am looking for too.. Didn't see the McKnights either so you must have got to them before me!

Arrived about 10.45am, pretty busy and constant, but was getting a little quieter around the 2pm mark......

Its a shame on the industry when one considers this was allegedly sold out from Corgi at one point and for that matter several wholesalers. Firstly, let it be noted that bacon butties were offered to those that had not already obtained them!! Was good to meet-up with Snaffs, D/W, Yellowbelley and also Snaff senior. A good chit chat followed with lots of laughter and loud banter!!

Was also good to meet up with Mr Jumblies and Blue Sky, thanks for the time extended for chit chat, very intersting indeed. Hope you both had good days....

Well, in terms of AA's it was the normal with some good prices to be obtained here and there along with the standard pricing for the new releases. I acquired the new US P47 Legend which I thought was very good indeed along with a couple more Carama jeeps which to be honest are spot-on for the money you pay!!

I was told that they were the fastest selling item of the day!! So Corgi, take note please. We want 1/72nd accessories now to go with our displays. :)

As for the rest, well it was not as busy as normal with respect to traders, but with Donnington and Est Midlands on the same day, well what do you expect.

I DO hope that Snaff jnr and Snaff Snr were driving a wagon of some sort because it looked like their 6 month outing. :D

Yes D/W. Thought I best continue this one in here as it's more relevant! Mrs CFBC and I spent a few hours at the Audi garage yesterday and we could have risked an overfill of diesel as she only put a tenners worth of petrol in me diesel car, however I have played it safe.

If I had overfilled and mixed and then dam thing broke down It would have taken more explaining to my boss!!! (Like how did petrol get in there?). So a day at home.

Rang him this Am to explain (he was fine), but then said I would have just stuck in diesel over the top!!!!! :o  Typical.... A tank drain, wasted afternoon and a day at home and he told me that!!!! Oh, and a bill soon too...

Good to see Mr Spock and Mr Blue Sky.....no other major dealers in attendance. Ended up with certified Park Hurricane 1/32 for £25, Franz Gotz ME109 1/32nd scale for £30 (ltd edition number is on the stand) and Red Arrows 1/72nd scale for a tenner.

The 1/32nd scale models are now very, very few and far between. Closing gaps in this part of the collection is becoming harder (and no doubt dearer!)

We had Gary and Geoff (Noble) with no other major dealers at the NEC so a pretty fair split there :D

I think this only applies to the Spitfires, BBD Mustang and Green old Crow. Most of the others are still around at low prices. However, I agree that the prices are going to go up. Once the glut of Hurricanes is over, and providing Corgi don't release any more, I expect to see a gradual rise.:)

NEC was poor,if Gary hadn't been there wouldn't have been worth going. The 1/32s were scarse,a few Park and Nicolson Hurris, only the Black 8 109 and Stinger P-51s. Geoff Noble had a Lane and a PR-F Spitfire for £65 Each. All his Dragons were full price. No 4 engine bombers at all.

Interesting that they were the same price. I would of expected the Lane to of been £10 higher than PRF. Mind you, when you see then side by side, both look very good in their own way :)

Should have my work colleague with me, & his son, who seems to an uncanny knack of sniffing out the bargains, (RCAF Lanc, 24 quid:rolleyes: ), then switches into little boy lost mode, to take even more off the price...

See you there guys...;)

More than likely BCC... Scott had a question for me last night, but he forgot to ask it or could not remember what it was...

I think it is "do you have brown sauce in your butty"

The answer is "yes" Scott! ;) :D

Anyone else going to the LTF then? Scott's buying the butties!

Hey Snafu, Yellowbelly, Dogwenty.... This is a "once a year" event... (not the LTF, but Scott buying the butties).

Think I'll be giving it a miss...I've got to the stage where I've got too much stuff stashed away and my days of buying just to stash it in the loft are over. I'm more likely to be selling than buying these days...there's lots of lovely camera gear about...:)

Good to meet-up with Dawgwenty and Scotty today at Lincoln t/f.. Not sure what happened to Bomber County Collector though? No mobile signal up there and looked out for him. He missed out on a bacon butty and a coffee, so I had to eat his as well ;) :D

Usual suspects trading, some good bargains were had by Mr Scotty as I was on a bacon butty eating mission only today and no spending although I did take-upo my birthday morney, but I could not find anything to spend it on!

Scott managed to acquire the 109/Spitfire Corgi double set for £16 (bargain) c/w cert, slightly damaged box and then D/W picked up a few Minichamps F1 cars (drop him a pm Boris), but I jus could not part with any dosh!

After that, the three of us were needed to load-up all of scott's purchases! It certainly made some sellers day! :D

We did manage to get the whole of Scott's purchases "just" into a specially rented van... (apart from the one box that went on the passenger seat)

Smacks of MB one year in his white van... :D

Thanks for the buttis mate and coffee!

I was there mate,:D did catch a glimpse of you chatting to Spock, but was busy haggling, so when I looked up again you had gone:(
Anyway, what did you think of the temporary accomodation:unsure:

Apparently, we'll all be back in the old building in april, even some of the dealers did not know about the change of venue, until arrival.

Reminded me very much of the fairs I used to go to at Sandown Park, & boy, was it busy today:eek:

Picked up 2 HM molders F4's from spock, one for me, & one for my mate, at a very reasonable price (thanks Spock;) ), & from elsewhere, a HM aussie navy Skyhawk, for £9, & a Predator Mig 21, for £3.99:eek:

Budget for day, £40, total spend, including admission £40:D

I love toyfairs...:)

Aha, you must have been a late arrival... About 11.45 I left after talking to said dealer. :D

New venue was good, but like you the hall will revert back to the old one due to cost I believe or was told.

Saw the £3.99 Preds and also the 1/2 price HM's... Early releaes, not a mass of types though. ;) :)

Just filling holes in the collection, daft not to, at those prices...;)

See you in april:D

Good catching up today. I like the new accomodation, pity it's not permanent. I reckon CFBC earned his bacon butties and coffee by helping load the van:LOL:

Just got it emptied, half on display but the other half are still in the garage until tomorrow. HM Mig-15's are excellent models as are their latest Texan/Harvard offerings. SkyMax Bearcats look very nice sitting with a load of similar coloured planes. P-39 'Old Crow' is also excellent. The box on the BoB set isn't as bad as I first thought and the new black shape in the Hurricane line up is a welcome addition. Phantoms, Hellcats, Helldiver, NGNG P-47, Kate and Huey will have to wait until tomorrow to get unpacked. :D

That's me finished buying until............................................. ........................................The next order arrives:LOL:

Went to Spalding Toyfair today.Bad new is that J and J fairs had leaflets stating that the next Toyfairs at Lincoln AND Newark have been cancelled.Maybe lack of trader interest in booking tables !!!???

Mr. TMDE,
Apparently the problem with these two fairs is the venues being double booked. It appears events held over two days as opposed to one will often get priority as they bring in more money for the site owners.......

I'd be tempted, will depend if I can get there though, is it well out of Lincoln or relatively easy to get to from the bus station?

Easy to get to by bus?, in a word NO:mad:

It is on the A15, on the other side of Lincoln, just before RAF Scampton.

The best thing to do is to see if any other DAF members could pick you up.

I think CFBC lives in the Lincoln area, I might be wrong,:unsure: why not drop him a PM;)

CFBC passes the bus station on way to Toy Fair but I don't know if he is going. Failing that, I could probably pick you up.

It's at the showground on the A15 near Scampton and there's usually a few bargains to be had.
