IWM Duxford will be hosting a special event in aid of Children In Need!

Historic Aircraft Collections Spitfire MKVB, piloted by Charlie Brown will race a Lotus Exige S driven by Martin Anderson, Chief Test Driver for Lotus Cars.

The 'race' will start at 13:30 and will be screened live on BBC Look East.

The Lotus can get to 60 MPH in 4.7 seconds....so who do you think will win the race down Duxford's Runway???? ;)

Flat out would think the Spit no contest, but with the acceleration of the Lotus may be a close one. fortunately it's a sprint not endurance so the Lotus packing in shouldn't be too much of a problem! :D

Spitfire will win...however if it competed against a Ferrari...well I think the latter would win:) :D

Is the Lotus using Strombergs or Webers....? :o

Are both starting from a standstill, or will the Spitfire already be airborne?

If both are racing from a standing start then I suspect the Lotus will win (but only just), if the Spit is already airborne then it should be a walkover for Charlie B.

So, do we know how the race will start, as I believe that will dictate the winner.

Standing start with engines running, Its tipping down with rain so that should make things interesting....

Didn't 'Top Gear' do this with a RAF Jaguar and a Jaguar car? I hope the weather gets better, I am off today so I will see if I can watch it on TV.

The car/truck/whatever always wins in these races so I voted for the Lotus (but I still want the Spit to win!)

Top Gear did it With a Jaguar T2 and an Aston Martin DB7. The Aston Martin was winning most of the way, much faster off the blocks, cue a jubilant Jeramy Clarkson celebrating, prematurely as it turned out as the Jag really kicked the power on and blasted past! :D Was a great bit of TV and would love to get a copy of the video, but can I hell as like find it! :(

It was great to see the Spitfire beat the Lotus!!! Mr Brown certainly got off the ground quickly and once he had the U/C up it was no contest!! The victory role was just rubbing it in!!!

I will see if the IWM website can get the clip put onto their Duxford page.
