Well not really a Civil fan, but having seen this in FS-2004, and remembering making it as an Airfix kit many moons ago - it would make a cracking little diecast piece.
Lovely plane.....

there used to be one on top of a pub called The Comet (no suprise there then) around Hatfield somewhere.. anyone know if its still there?
Agent X20
24th September 2004, 19:43
Yes the Comet is still very much there basically on the old A1 about half a mile from De Havs... The plane still sits atop its pole.. it was refurbished about 5 years ago so be good for a few years yet... As to the pub/hotel itself its tried to go all modern... well not really my cuppa tea...

I've calculated a maximum of 8 schemes for this and probably no sales in North America, so it's a non-starter I regret.

I reckon you'ld like it, if only for the Sea Hurricane and Lysander ... and the Gladiator, once they change the [IMHO] less than exciting Norwegian scheme.
I like the place a lot. I used to hang around there when I was a kid and once got a flight in the B.A. Swallow.
Period hangars, a grass strip and the whiff of Castor Oil... ah .. nostalgia.

thourght it was 'just' engines to go back on then finish undercarriage? its another one where bits are being worked on off the a/c then 'just' need bolting back on.. it had just completed restoration when it pranged ?Shuttleworth seem to be hoping to get it ready for next season as I understood that they were doing something to the landing strip in readiness.. not sure what they were doing, extending it?

The Shuttleworth Collection, invites members of the press to visit Old Warden Aerodrome on the above date. The original de Havilland Comet aeroplane will be wheeled out from its hangar and positioned on our historic airfield. We are hoping to run the famous twin Gipsy Six engines and taxi the aeroplane.
After many years of careful restoration the Shuttleworth Collection is delighted to celebrate the magnificent achievement of this pioneering aeroplane and that of its crew. The Shuttleworth Collection will be showing the original log - book that belonged to this historic aircraft along with a number of other interesting artefacts.
We look forward to welcoming you to this outstanding Collection of aviation heritage and celebrating with us on this historic and memorable day the achievements that helped change air travel for ever.

Me thinks our paths must have crossed at some time Raff ,I remember the B. A. Swallow , yellow and silver I think ! do you remember the Piper Cub with the D-DAY stripes that used to be parked just inside the gates , along with a Jackaroo (four seat Tigermoth ) and a Taylor Titch racer, had a few rides in the Cub, even got to fly her a few times , they were the days :)

Bitch!
Hi Aeronut ... Yes I remember some of those! Got a few trips in a Jackeroo myself but this one was kept up at Blackpool.
On the staff at Old Warden when I was around [early sixties] was a gentleman who had been Hopgood's tail gunner on the dams raid [the only one to get out of that aircraft]. I regret I can't remember his name, think it was Bob .. smashing chap.
Re the DH 88 ... I hope they are extending the runway.. especially if they have the same trouble getting the thing down as I do on FS2004 .. now I know why I'm such a flaps fan!

Probably fairer to say low sales in North America. For some of us here, this aircraft was the pinnacle of design for the era, and I for one, would KILL to get a snappy diecast of this aircraft. Shiny red, please. ;)
Regardless, I always thought Corgi made their bulk of sales from the UK?
