This is taken from a post on UKAR forum. http://forums.airshows.co.uk/cgi-bin/ukarboard/ikonboard.cgi?;act=ST;f=1;t=33530;
Robin passed last night, 14 June, approx 2215hrs. He died peaceably in his sleep. He had been pretty sedated the last
few days.
Funeral arrangements aren't firm yet but looks like it will be at the AFACAD, possible mid-July.
Very sad news, this man was legendary in his accomplishments. Blue skies to you. Gone but not forgotten

An incredible man, and legendary fighter leader taking after his father, a WWI fighter pilot. Old's scored 12 aerial kills in P-38J's & P-51D's, during WWII plus a further 11.5 on the ground. Despite numerous requests for a combat tour, he never served in Korea as he was tied to a posting commanding the 71st FS at Greater Pittsburgh Airport, PA. Although he missed action in the Korean War, he added a further four MiG kills as a full Colonel in Vietnam. He retired in 1973 holding the rank of Brigadier General.
Interestingly Old's links to the UK didn't finish at the end of WWII. He held two command postitions here in the UK, one in 1948 as CO of the Meteor equipped No.1 Sqn RAF at Tangmere, (whilst on the RAF/USAF exchange program) and the second as CO of the 81st TFW at Bentwaters between 1963 and 1965 when they were flying F-101 Voodoo's.
A true hero of the skies has passed on, rest in peace and blue skies General Olds.

Another legend passes and,sadly, it is a frequent occurrence now.
Luck may have spared them but nature can't be beaten.
