...'dish of the day' :p
Whilst you're all in awe of the 1/32nd Mosquito, thought I should just mention another model that was delivered to the shops at the same time and 'slipped under the radar', so to speak! :D - the USAF E-3 Sentry!
I am extremely pleased with the result, which depicts the Wing Commanders aircraft at Tinker AFB, Oklahoma. Several people were wondering how the radar 'dish' would rotate and I iniitially thought it was going to me clockwork.
However, the 'dish' has a tiny motor and battery inside it and a very small switch underneath to turn it on and off. Because of this, only the top half of the dish actually rotates, whereas on the real one, it is the whole dish. This works absolutely fine, as long as you're not viewing it from underneath!
I hope everyone that gets one will be as pleased as I am......now, where are my Saudi references...

Scrounger,
Don't you see, Albert must have already done the RAF version if he hasn't got around to researching the Saudi one yet (maybe he was too busy researching the Saudi Tornado!!!) I expect to see an RAF AWACS in the next catologue!

Albert,
I therefore deduce that we can expect a Saudi Tornado and a RAF AWACS next year!! Top stuff!! I still have a hunch that we will see a new 1/72 scale Spitfire (Mk IX please) as Corgi must know that it will sell like hot cakes and they are just using the Mk V for commisions now!!

Slight problem with casey135's. This was the original boeing model 717. the fuselage is narrower than the 707. The fuselage was widened for the 707 series when Boeing found out about the DC8. So more seats could be accommodated. I don't have the books to hand but I believe the original was designed 5 abreast, and the 707 is 6 abreast?
Doesn't discount USAF J-Stars or IAE Phalcon with nose mods?

Had to stop her purchasing it there and then, had to resort to the "no room" (yet) scenario.
May have to swop her bookcase for an Argos display cabinet.............
What do you reckon AWACS will go for at toyfairs?, same as the Canberra?

I've had this AWAC on order for ages and have ended up getting obsessive about it as it still hasnt arrived (I didn't order it from Corgi) after dear knows how many months of delays in release. Anyway, after seeing the RAF Sentry pics earlier in the week I considered dumping my order but I can't hold on till Feburary to get any form of AWAC now! Anyway, I'll have to figure out were to get an a Tornado ADV in 144

I e-mailed the site I ordered mine off to find out where it was and got a reply this morning telling me it'll be dispatched soon as they had lost my order. Good thing I've been holding on to the peice of paper with the oder confirmation on it since the 24th of April. Since there don't appear to be pictures of this plane on the net (unless someone has some or knows of some) other than the corgi one I shall post some pics of it for the masses to make their decision on.

Does anyone know if there was ever a cammo scheme for the AWACS something similar to the Unsung Heroes Phantom or B-52 Duxford?
The only pictures I've seen shows it a blue grey colour.

Yep... follow me.. I'll be right behind you.....
Saw in on me hols, it does look a lot better in the flesh than the catalogue.. was not given a full demon-stration as to the rotational abilities of the built in DVD player, but it looked very nice....

Just saw the E-3 for the first time at Donnington yesterday and very nice it is too. In the flesh, out of its box on display with its radome working. Not often traders go to those lengths.
Also advised by someone more knowledgable than myself that it is a Commanders bird with all the different coloured sqd markings on top of tail.
Must say it had me drooling

Any chance of the NATO commemorative blue colour scheme? That'd be an impressive piece....

I'd prefer to see more "everyday" schemes rather than paint schemes applied for anniversaries etc. The Blue sceme isn't that bad though but I'd rather see a French before a NATO Sentry.

Picked up an AWACS today.
Take care removing from box as obviously held tightly to prevent theft by Russian spies.
Just bolt it down, Corgi, far easier to remove.
Fixing radome a sticky moment as you have to force plastic "legs" apart, I can see too much force and $@*$ occurring!!!
Was going to display mine on top of telly. (might improve reception or pick up foreign broadcasts.)

Where have you heard that from, as we have no plans for this one yet, although it's a logaical choice? Would you want the specially-painted blue anniversary machine, or a plain standard grey one?

Heres what the NATO anniversary model would look like.
http://homepage1.nifty.com/Mirage/gallery/air1/e3a/index.html
That guy has a great models collection.
I prefer standard operational colour schemes but the colours the AWACs come in are very similar so the blue would be something different though I don't think you can collect that many AWACs due to size consideration.
Anyway, wheres my 1:144 Showcase Tornado ADVs

Just to let you know, the supplied instructions for the rotadome battery installation seems to me to say that there are NO batteries in the unit when supplied.
Having just purchased 3 x LR44 batteries, imagine my surprise (and language!)
to discover on removing the battery cover, (very, very, small jewellers screwdriver time!) that there ARE three batteries in place in the unit!!!
Works perfectly, and as well as I can judge, the speed is accurate too !
Anybody want to purchase 3 x LR44 batteries? Do I hear £20 opening bid?
Don't laugh lads, please..........

Uncle Albert, like you i am sworn to secrecy :D .
As for the colour scheme i would have said grey but having seen the pics posted by FTD i must say it looks pretty neat in blue.

Hi All, ;) first post and sorry its a 'problem'. Anyone else experienced problems with the rotodome on the E3B? Mine tended to judder around, sticking etc. I've replaced the batteries and now I can hear the motor but the dome dont rotate. I understand a lovely, friendly, helpful lady called Nona is the usual point of contact but cant find any contact for her.
Merry Christmas to all :D :)

My rotadome stopped rotating after being left on for several hours, was fine after it cooled down for an hour........
Seems to me that, due to the flimsy nature of the 'dome it probably wouldnt take much "abuse" to stop it working.
Now only set the dome rotating when (interested) visitors call......
Merry Christmas everybody!!!!

Albert,
Having acquired one today from your favourite AA dealer I have to say that I am generally pleased with this but , like so many AAs the artwork on the box just does not do the model justice. One small point though and that is that the serial on the model is Wrong, but I guess that's be known for a while now. Was this one of yours ?

The Serial shoud read 11407, it does on the paperwork that came with the frisbee installation, and from memory on the box insert where all the potted history is displayed. On the box front (from memory) it reads 74-4107, so in conclusion part of it is corect and part isn't. Never mind it least it had a serial unlike a certain Sea Harrier .. :D :D
